Zilthy 36 Report post Posted July 18, 2015 Hello everyone. As I have been dusting off the rust on Dest, I am starting to play Affliction on a couple of fights, and I am looking for some feedback on Hellfire High Council. Here are the logs for my fight there: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/V9AhHFTxj31zBkQK#type=summary&source=99 Here are the things that I know that need correction: Although dot uptimes for corruption, unstable affliction and agony were reasonable, I think I let agony drop off a couple of times. Not good. Dark Soul: I could have used that one more time, I thought we were hitting burn phase sooner, so sat on 2 charges for too long. What else should I be looking at? Also, tracking dots across the council, I am just using the boss frames from ELVUI. I have WA's setup which are nice for current target, but not so great for off targets using mouseover refreshing. Is there a better way to approach this? That's a lot of dots to track.
Puns 3 Report post Posted July 18, 2015 A few things you can do to improve your dps as affliction on Council: Prepot 2sec before pull, precast haunt (soulburn:haunt if you have picked the talent). Quickly apply UA, Agony and Corruption on one target and soulswap to the other two, main Drain Soul on your primary target whenever possible. Save one charge of Dark Soul, Doomguard and perhaps second pot (may vary on higher difficulties) for hero/lust during Gurtogg's burn phase. Only refresh if your dots are under 30% of their pandemic duration, otherwise you're waisting globals. You barely cast drain soul until 3 minute mark. It seems like you had fixate on you for awhile but your damage didn't peak much at all. During that period your pet died via soul link and you never resummoned it afterwards. You also never used doomguard or potion. If you happen to get fixated again here's what you should do: Refresh dots on all 3 bosses ASAP. If Haunting Spirits Buff is at <10sec refresh it and spam drain soul on Gurtogg, use Dark Soul and pop second pot. Using doomguard here would yield maximum dps however you also need it during his burn phase. On normal and heroic I feel like it's fine to use cooldowns if you have fixate on you. You had 8 hunters but none had hero/lust pet out? No tranq shot on Gurtogg to dispel fury? During fixate you received no ironbark/cocoon so your imp died. Holy shit I hope that was a pug and not a guild run, the level of plays is appalling.
Zilthy 36 Report post Posted July 20, 2015 Thanks for the tips. I feel sort of embarrassed that I have never played affliction until now, but then again, I have never really felt a need to. As far as the only refresh under 30% that I know (and know I missed out a lot on drain soul) and am wondering if there is a better way to track dots on multiple targets than just using boss frames. I guess that is something to look in to. :) And yes, that is a pug group. Other than a few of us on our main raid team in there on alts, that group is pretty much pug based. We don't have a lot of requirements for getting in on that run, and we often end up with people who have never seen the fights before, and sometimes not even done LFR before. It's just having some fun and killing some bosses. Although some of the upcoming bosses are going to prove 'entertaining' with that sort of group. But, it seemed like a better place to try out affliction than on my main raid team/nights. :D
Liquidsteel 279 Report post Posted July 20, 2015 You can always move the boss frames you know. I moved mine to middle and left of centre and it improved my multi dotting my a huge margin when I did so. Mouseover macros and boss frames are my staple for council fights and any adds which are important enough to get included.
Zilthy 36 Report post Posted July 20, 2015 That's the way I have it setup now, it's probably just a matter of getting used to the spec for me I guess. I was hoping there was a shortcut, but I do not think that will take too long. The only thing that might be better than mouseover dots is a mouseover interrupt. Both are much happiness.
