Couple of questions:

Wrists - Elemental Damage (Fire or Cold) - what's the criteria?

I've got Yang's Recurve with the cold damage on it, should I also change wrists damage to cold (now it is fire)?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what effect Weapon Elemental Damage has on abilities, but each skill does elemental damage based on the chosen tune.  In Multishot's case, it deals fire damage via the Arsenal rune.

Hi Deadset would you say when you get to GR 74+ is leech a viable option because what I am noticing is I can all out vs reflect packs and not take any damage at all hardly unless I get hit by other stuff as I rolled a really good hellfire amulet with leech on it 10% crit chance 742 dex and 98% crit dmg. I will update this to ancient later for augment with fire + 10% + 100% if i can lol.

I am encountering a problem though I just don't seem be doing enough damage at 74 GR i have 2.1 million dps dex is  and around 667 paragon level atm. I have 2 augments. Should I augment all ancients I have at 65 as its quite a bit of dex until i can safely farm 75-80 pushing my gems higher I have almost a 3rd to go in as I have good shoulders and boots and decent legs? almost all my gear is ancient now minus the focus, witching hour, bracers and gloves. I am rarely dying too as well because leech tops me up soon as I take damage unless its a 1 shot.

I am still not sure if thril or ballistic is doing more damage i am clearing 70 at around the 10 min mark now and 73 was like 14 mins.

Heya! You can roll with Leech on a Hellfire to make the 70-85 range more comfortable, and make some of your GR pushing attempts less RNG-reliant as you'll be able to heal through some of the unfavorable elite packs. The guide really just assumes top end pushing at about the ~GR 90 range, where everything is dropped in favor of damage increasing options like Steady Aim, Cull the Weak, etc.

Augment as much of your gear as you can, going through the pieces you don't expect to change soon (your best rolled Ancient items)! That's a heap of Dexterity and you will definitely feel the difference. It goes without saying but upgrade your legendary gems as much as you can, too.

And as my least appealing recommendation, more Paragons never hurt. :P Once you break the 800 barrier, all of your points will go towards Dexterity, building up to a significant damage increase over time.

Thanks for your reply Deadset. I got 74 last night once i put that 3rd Augment in, pushed me to 12k. I am seeing the results now once i can farm 75 at reasonable rate I can get my gems higher and focus on paragon :-)  I can see my hard work paying off, i think by next week I should be in 80-90s with some luck :-)

Kind regards

To: Deadset

Thank you for such a wonderful guide.

Im a reborn Diablo 3 player, (Faithful D2 IMBA Hammerdin and D1 player warrior rocking with Butchers cleaver) stopping during the Auction house era and only re-entering during 2.3 2.4 patch days.

With the help of your guide, I was able to adapt back to the game with ease.

Currently, able to clear GR 70+ and optimizing the rest of the item gear (Augment ancient items, farm ancient). Items at 70% Ancient.

The speed farm build utilizing Goldwrap, Avarice and Boon of the Hoarder was exceptional.

Sincerely from the bottom of my heart,

Thank you Deadset!

Hello

First of all, thanks for this amazing guide.

As a D3 newbie, this guide helped me to reach GR60 in 2 weeks without any problem.

Now, my noob question, after i google`d for a while without any result, i decide to ask for help here, in the DH-Multishot den.

I rolled my first hellfire amulet with ambush pasive.

What pasive i should use instead of ambush? since i got it from amulet?

Thank you in advance

HI deadset,

I struggle a little between Crit Chance / Damage and Elemental Damage. The reason is that Crit stats can easily reach +40/400% while the maximum for Elemental is 40% (on Wrist and Amulet). Giving the multiplicative relation between Crit and Elemental, I have the tendency to think elemental is better.

Concerning Cooldown reduction, I find out that 33.33% is the limit. Less, it would give me trouble with resource management and thus less damage overall. More, it becomes a waste when there is no target around.

Right now I'm at P1000, sheet DPS 2.2M, crit stat 42/410, 3 legendary gems at 80. I can do 79 reliably, 80 occasionally, 81 very little chance and 82 impossible. All my gears are ancient with + lv70 despair. I cannot go higher for some reasons.

My main issue is that my Kanai gear slot is locked with Cindercoat and the ring slot is locked with Elusive ring. You recommend CoE for the ring slot, but from my actual experience I would get 1 shot very often so that the benefit of CoE is all loss. I wonder if you have noticed any minimum level of toughness or Vit to make CoE user more confident in avoiding 1 shot?

I also notice that though you did not mention Paragon priority post 800. I assume that all should go to Dex?

Thanks in advance.

Have you used http://www.d3planner.com?  You can import your character, save it, and then copy the link it gives you into a reply here.  That way Deadset can see your actual gear and give specific advice.  NOTE: you need to manually input your paragon points before you save, as it doesn't do that for you.

Thanks for the kind words! I'd advise you to take either Steady Aim (more damage) or Awareness (get a free death).

On the stat balance, I can definitely vouch for d3planner for more specific advice (either by showing me your character there, or trying out different stats yourself - it's really handy to show you which stat comes out ahead of which!) Try it out to know for certain what you get the most benefit out of!

Have you given a cubed Visage of Gunes a chance? At permanent Vengeance, you'll have both the Hatred regen of Seethe, as well as the Dark Heart damage reduction. This will give you the option to switch Elusive into CoE, and do the strategy where you draw attention during non-Fire cycles, and just dump Hatred hard on Fire. To be honest though, Demon Hunter is the first character to reach a Toughness brick wall in GRs, where he becomes oneshot material; it's always been part of the DH mastery to "simply never get hit". I'm honestly horrible at it myself, haha!

Paragon points past 800 go into Dexterity, correct.

Thanks Deadset. I hope that you do not mind some more questions.

My current build can be found here: http://www.d3planner.com/664623060

I also notice that most of the time, Nemesis bracer would help speed up the gauge filling compared to Wraps of clarity. Do you think that I sacrifice too much toughness?

At first I think Cinder coat + 33% CDR + 2.98 Hatred / second is overkill. But actually as soon as I change any of them, I notice non-negligible Multishot downtime. And If I team up with a Monk, his mantra will make me feel that I have barely enough Hatred to keep spamming.

I've been running with this, switching between speedrun and progression.. using the other one's (https://www.icy-veins.com/d3/demon-hunter-speedrun-multishot-fire-build-with-yangs-recurve-patch-2-4 ) passive skills build. and using different then that:

- Krelm buff belt
- Warzechian
- Topaz in helm
- Leoric's crown in cube.

Just to be a bit faster, and find more. With my current build its all 1-shot kills on T10 anyhow.

I noticed that this guide has been updated, and that the speedrun passive skills are different then the other guide. Was this intentional?

So yesterday I did some math, and calculated that Ambush results in an average effective damage boost of at most 11.36%. When I say "at most" I mean that anything below 60% dead man's legacy will reduce this percentage. Another factor that reduces this percentage is the extent to which multishot is NOT your main/only source of damage. This percentage boost bottoms out at 7.69% when multishot is simply not used to deal damage at all. I think it is important to keep this in mind and make an educated choice between Ambush and Steady Aim as a 4th passive slot. Steady Aim creates the chance to increase damage output by 20% if played correctly, but requires some savvy. In theory, the idea of using Ambush to proc dead man's legacy more quickly is sound, but in reality, there are potentially better options available.

Just an FYI, pets pick up gold, which might act as a free and slotless alternative to Ring of Avarice. Their range for picking up gold isn't too bad either.

Thanks for the input! I'll run it through some Demon Hunters whose opinions I trust, will be curious what they have to say about it. At the end of the day you'll ideally have both through Hellfire, but it's good to (definitively) know the better passive by default. :)

That's a great question that comes up every now and then :) The nature of stacking buffs in Diablo heavily favors multiplicative sources of damage like Focus and Restraint. Discipline is additive in nature, much like Elemental damage; in reality, Disc rolls on all possible pieces (weapon, cloak, quiver) will result in about 80 disc, and disc rings would come out as a damage increase of only about 11%. In comparison, Focus and Restraint multiply your damage by 125% - crazy good :)

ok, I get this. But it seems that with a Jordan with 10 disc and then the bonus against elites, plus using Endless walk might end up pretty good. The damage mitigation alone is worth something. After all you do more dmg alive rather than dead. Have you checked this out?

Oh, it can definitely work - I simply do not recommend it in the guide because at the top tier, DHs will drop anything that doesn't increase damage in the hopes of squeezing some more GR levels. Honestly, If more mitigation is what you're looking for, just use an Elusive Ring, It will free up your amulet slot for a Hellfire (and will net you some more damage as a result).

Hello,

I am confused by the stat priority for some of these items such as the helm

  1. Dexterity

  2. Socket

  3. Critical Hit Chance

  4. Vitality

  5.  Multishot %

This item can only have 3 primary stats and 2 secondary stats, how can you get all 5 from above?  Thanks.

Convention of Elements is just a hype because of other classes like Wiz and WD benefiting so heavily from them, SoJ or Elusive Ring are MUCH better picks for endgame GR's as a DH.

Hellfire as well, is not 'BiS' as a DH. A Traveler's Pledge and Compass Rose can EASILY be worked into this build and be JUST as viable, if not MORE viable. I read this guide word for word, and maybe 75% of it was valid. 25% of this guide is just an opinion, not fact.

Cheers and see you at GR100 (without following this build). Am already on 82 (:

Heya, it cannot have all 5 indeed (but it can have 4 - the usual split is 4 primaries, 2 secondaries). The list is meant to rank the most desirable stats on the item, and it is up to you to obtain an item with as close to the top 4 as possible. :)

Heya, while other combinations for this or a similar Multishot build are indeed viable to a certain GR, the guide is 100% based on testing, gear simulations and exchange of thoughts with some of the best players of the class. While I personally don't pursue the build for progression purposes, you are welcome to challenge and/or surpass our math by beating Zer0x (currently 8th worldwide with this exact build at GR 90).

One thing that I have been considering for DHs is how the reliance on Dawn in the Cube  precludes most builds from being able to incorporate the 50% damage bonus to your most-desired targets via The Furnace.

Giving up perma-vengeance isn't reallt an option, but what about utilizing Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac?

There's two possibilities for doing so. The first is skipping CoE in the build, which seems counterindicated, since CoE averages you a 50% bonus (and in practice results in much more than that once you're used to the rotation). The other alternative is skipping Focus/Restraint, either for Endless Walks or SoJ/Elusive + Hellfire. I'd lean towards the Walks, as you can keep the 100% damage bonus up pretty consistently with Vault, which means you're only sacrificing a little damage compared to F/R.

The benefits of ORotZ extend beyond just perma-Vengeance, which is the reason I think this could truly be viable. It also allows you to keep Wolf Companion up more of the time, and you can lean more heavily on Preparation's Disicpline restoration, meaning you don't need to worry as much about draining your reserves and lowering the UE6 damage bonus.

By vaulting constantly, you lack the maintenance of Discipline which SEVERELY reduces your damage output. I really don't think using Vault constantly will allow the maintenance of the buff when compared with the Disc. loss.

Ah, but remember with ORotZ procs, you can activate Preparation more often to keep your Discipline reserves topped off.

Oh, also, the other thing to remember: F+R is multiplicative.

It's a 2.25 multiplier to your damage when both buffs are up. Not sure how Furnace/Walks interact, but you also have to factor in the required movement of walks with Vault vs. standing there and spamming abilities with F+R. Also, can you maintain Vengeance with ORotZ?

I figured I'd test it a bit in-game. I went into a GR70 with it to see how the reduction would fare. No dawn, OROTZ + Walk. Unless you can constantly spam Multishot, I could JUST keep Vengeance up perma with 27% CDR. When I was vaulting too, I couldn't maintain it. It looks like you'd need to build for more CDR or attack speed to basically spend more Hatred faster.

Personally, I'm probably going to stick with F+R. Really don't like the playstyle of the Walks with this build. Did you try/test it yet?

A brand new season arrives in Diablo 3 next month! Blizzard have the full preview ready so let's take a look at the cosmetic rewards, season journey, Haedrig's Gift sets, and more!
      Season 33 (Source)
Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 33: Shades of the Nephalem. Starting on October 25 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Shades of the Nephalem theme, which first debuted with Season 22. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below. Also, Season 32 will officially come to an end on October 20. Seasonal Journey
      Season Theme
      Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Season Journey Rewards
      Seasonal Conquest
      Haedrig’s Gift
      Patch 2.7.8
      Season Theme
The shadows, they are moving, and they seem… animated. Like they have a will of their own. Whatever this trickery is, perhaps you can use it to your advantage. Let’s see what the demons say when you fight side by side with your own shadow! Shadows of the Past: Activating a Shrine/Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class, who will come with a randomly chosen 1 of 3 predetermined builds. This clone's power will scale with your character and will last for 1 minute (unless your character dies). See this article for the shadow clone variations that can spawn when activating. Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season. This fourth slot will have the choices of the first 3 slots but will not stack with any of them, providing additional flexibility to your build. Return to Top Season Cosmetic Rewards
Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to any who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 33, this means awards originally available from Season 9 are returning to the Season Journey. However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve already participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth in the Trial of Tempests to earn the Stupendous Contraption pet and the Industrial Portrait Frame.
In addition to the Chest and Gloves slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Pandemonium portraits, and the cute and craggily Rocky pet first introduced in Season 9. Return to Top Season Journey Rewards
If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of five: Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a Level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete 2 Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at Level 70 in under fifteen seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Treasure Goblins outside of Nephalem Rifts will sometimes open portals to Greed’s domain, The Vault. Take U There: Reach Greater Rift Level 60 Solo. Greater Rift keystones can be obtained from any Nephalem Rift guardian. Power Amplification: Use Kanai’s Cube to augment an Ancient Legendary item with a Level 50+ gem. Cubic Reconfiguration: Use Kanai’s Cube to reforge a Legendary item. Return to Top Seasonal Conquest
Want to prepare your Conquest plan for Season 33? Here are the challenges you’ll face: For Curses!/Stars Align, pick any Cursed Chest event that requires killing monsters and defeat over 350 or more at level 70 on Torment X or higher. Also returning for Season 33 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at Level 70 in under an hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped. And lastly we'll be bringing back Speed Demon/Need for Speed, meaning you'll need to beat a Torment X Nephalem Rift at Level 70 in 2 minutes. Best of luck! Return to Top Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works: Completing Acts II, III, and IV of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely! The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 33: Barbarian - Might of the Earth Crusader - Thorns of the Invoker Demon Hunter - The Shadow's Mantle Monk - Monkey King's Garb Witch Doctor - Raiment of the Jade Harvester Wizard - Firebird's Finery Necromancer - Grace of Inarius Return to Top Patch 2.7.8
Our next patch goes live on October 22 and introduces quality-of-life updates for demon slayers on Mac. New Mac Executables/Mac Native Silicon and Intel: These updates will allow Diablo III to run on new versions of the macOS. PC Experience Stability: This PTR is open to both Mac and PC players. While the focal point of the 2.7.8 PTR is to test technical updates for Mac, we want PC users to monitor their playing experience as well. If you experience any stability issues or difficulties in connecting with Mac players, please give us that feedback. Return to Top

Sprinter and Speed Racer task you with completing Acts I through V at max level in under one hour. Want to go fast while killing things? Boss Mode and Worlds Apart are right up your alley.  On A Good Day and I Can’t Stop are making a return, if leveling your Legendary Gems is more your thing. Season 32 of Diablo 3, Ethereal Memory, will go live later today, and we have prepared a list of various useful and updated guides to help you get started!
The Season of Ethereal Memory will start later today at 5 p.m. PDT (NA Servers), 5 p.m. CEST (EU Servers), and 5 p.m. KST (Asian Servers). The theme of Season 32 was first introduced with Season 24 and is now back for another round!
      What are Ethereal Memories?
The theme of the season reintroduces the Ethereals, which are rare and powerful items known from Diablo II and reimagined for Diablo III. You will be able to hunt for all 21 iconic weapons of Diablo 2 during the season, but this time they will be harder to find and will only drop in Ancient or Primal rarity!

Season 32 in Diablo 3 starts on July 12 and here is the official preview with more details.

Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 32: Ethereal Memory. Starting on July 12 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Ethereal Memory theme, which first debuted with Season 24. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below.

As the Nephalem reflect on Sanctuary's history, instruments of power from a bygone era resurface. These ethereal memories will grant those persistent enough to search for them unimaginable power. Legends of the past will manifest once more in the present, and you must decide how to best use these gifts—for ethereal power is fugacious by nature, and will soon return to being no more than a myth.
For this seasonal theme, we were inspired to reimagine how Ethereal items could manifest in Diablo III, with 21 iconic weapons making a return from Diablo II. In Season 32, Ethereals are rare, powerful, and fleeting items.
Season 32 reintroduces Ethereals, a weapon-type that players will be able to acquire and hunt for in their upcoming seasonal journey. Ethereals will roll a powerful set of affixes, a random Class Weapon Legendary Power and a random Class Passive Power. Ethereals will have unique icons, names, item types, and sounds originally found in Diablo II. For additional details on Ethereals, check out the list below:
Ethereals are account bound and can only be dropped by monsters, chests, and destructibles, but do not require your character to be Level 70 in order to drop. Ethereals cannot be acquired through Kanai's Cube or from Kadala. Ethereal rarity drop rate is set between Ancient and Primal items. There are 3 unique Ethereals per class. Each Ethereal has fixed affixes and rolls one random Legendary Weapon power and one random Class Passive Skill. Only one Ethereal can be equipped at a time. Ethereals ignore item durability loss. Legendary Powers and Class Passive Skills rolled on Ethereals do not stack with the same power equipped through Kanai's Cube, Items or Skills. Ethereals cannot be Enchanted, Transmogrified, Dyed, Reforged, or traded. Ethereals can be augmented. Collecting all 21 Ethereals during the season will reward players with the Feat of Strength, Ethereal Recollection. Players who accomplish this will have all Ethereal transmogrify options available for future seasonal and non-seasonal play. Ethereals only drop in Seasonal play and will not transfer to your non-seasonal character when the season ends. Return to Top
      Season Cosmetic Rewards
Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to players who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 32, this means awards originally available from Season 8 are returning to the Season Journey.

However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Feast your eyes upon the Teganze Warrior Portrait Frame and Bat pet!

In addition to the Boots and Pants slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn a series of portrait frames that smolder with demonic fires of the Burning Hells. The iconic wings of Andariel will also be available once more, allowing you to truly embrace your inner Maiden of Anguish.

      Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey (courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift) have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works:
Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts.
Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 32:
Barbarian – Immortal King’s Call Crusader – Seeker of the Light Demon Hunter – Natalya’s Vengeance Monk – Uliana’s Stratagem Necromancer – Trag’Oul’s Avatar Witch Doctor – Spirit of Arachyr Wizard – Vyr’s Amazing Arcana
