Unhallowed Essence Multishot Demon Hunter

I, myself, prefer to swap CompanionCompanion Wolf CompanionWolf Companion with Marked for DeathMarked for Death ContagionContagion. It provides the +15% damage, and it could potentially spread across the entire dungeon. It does have the 3 Discipline cost, however, but with a simple shot from Evasive FireEvasive Fire FocusFocus and the set bonus from Unhallowed Essence Accursed VisageAccursed Visage you'll have that 3 Discipline back almost immediately. That's just my personal preference..

If you're happy playing it, I think that's fair enough. I stay away from MfD, I hate having to manually apply it in a build where you have the potential to just steamroll enemies. It's also worth noting that your enemy has to die for it to spread. Unless you have a smaller trash mob you can kite and quickly kill to spread the debuff, I really prefer Wolf over it.

A slight note on the Furnace discussion - keep in mind that Furnace cannot be cubed by Demon Hunters at all, since they cannot wield two handed maces.

Marked for Death is a 15% additive damage bonus vs. Wolf's 15% multiplicative, and the latter damage bonus is simply applied to you (instead of requiring a debuff to spread with on-kill conditions, etc), making it easier to manage. I wouldn't switch away personally.

One thing that I have been considering for DHs is how the reliance on Dawn in the Cube  precludes most builds from being able to incorporate the 50% damage bonus to your most-desired targets via The Furnace.

Tagging you to read Deadset's comment above concerning the Furnace.

By vaulting constantly, you lack the maintenance of Discipline which SEVERELY reduces your damage output. I really don't think using Vault constantly will allow the maintenance of the buff when compared with the Disc. loss.

I've only recently learnt this...made a nice difference to my end results by limiting vaults during a grift.

A huge thanks to deadset for taking the time to write this very nice build tutorial up.  As a DH noob, I found this guide *perfect* and already after a few weeks, I've cleared up to a 75.

It's something that I immediately notice if I have had to vault too much. The lack of damage is just astounding. Really goes to show how important Disc is for us.

have cleared a 77 now!  haven't played much D3 the past week cos of Skyrim though.  I'm missing discipline off my bow, and not using bane of the powerful (using ESO instead), and still need to augment 5 of my items, do you think I'll be able to push an 80 eventually?

i have another question, i recently saw thad manald heal can have 10 disc as a secondary stat. So i was like yeah 100% (from f/r)  <400% dmg and so i tried it that out together with an elusive ring for more survivability, but at least from the feeling i did less dmg in the end.

so i wanted to know if that comes from how these bonuses are calculated.

yeah it does less damage.  manald damage is additive.  focus/restraint are multiplicative.  This is a common topic, see this reddit thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo3DemonHunters/comments/32ryqg/manald_heal_vs_focusrestraint/

stick with focus and restraint.  hellfire is definitely BIS because of the ability to get an extra passive (steady aim is highly recommended).

My girlfriend asked a question yesterday, that I couldn't answer. Maybe you can?

She said: "Why shouldn't I use Traveler's Pledge with Compase Rose and Elusive Ring? I get the same 100% dmg as I would with F+R, but I get 100mio toughness out of it."

Granted, she plays Marauders and that's a bit more stationary than Unhallowed. Which means, that it's probably more viable for Marauders, but I'm switching to Unhallowed now and I'm asking myself the same question now.^^

I move a lot with Unhallowed, but let's say I can get 60-70% out of Traveler's Pledge and Compass rose, are those 100mio toughness not more valuable than 30-40% dmg loss?
When running 75+ GR, wouldn't I profit more from being able to stand in fire for 3-5 seconds without dying, instead of vaulting out of it (on occasions perhaps more than once in a row), thus reducing my precious discipline, which leads to less dmg?

Thank you guys, I come here a lot, for WoW and Diablo 3. I've never said anything but a appreciate the tremendous effort you are putting into these guides!

Cheers

because the traveller's set is additive damage, whereas focus/restraint is multiplicative.  See earlier pages in the build replies in this thread for a detailed explanation and examples.  Focus/restraint will do more damage.  Period.

I'm sorry, but I search every page for anything about the traveler's pledge and haven't found anything. I KNOW that F&R is multiplicative, but I have not seen anywhere that the traveler's pledge is additive.

But have my thanks for clarifying that.

Hey, this is actually not the case. Both F&R and Endless Walk combos provide multiplicative damage increases.

F&R multiply with each other though, ending up at a 2.25x multiplier to Endless Walk set's 2x. When going for high rankings, DHs simply concede that every hit will be a oneshot (regardless of defensive multipliers) and simply try to squeeze out every last drop of DPS. F&R combo just turns out to be the strongest in that regard, especially when you consider that Hellfire Amulets will invariably add another 20% multiplicative in this build because of the many great passives available.

For more casual purposes (or simply not wanting to die over and over), an Endless Walk combo + Elusive Ring will work just fine, and still dish out reasonable damage.

It's an easy mistake to make! There are so many different bonuses in the game that it can get tough to keep track of them :p

Awesome build, thank you so much! I have a question though, should the damage of the bow be fire damage? Also for the amulet, if I had to choose, what would be better: dexterity or fire %? Thanks again for your time!

Glad to hear it's working well!

The damage type of the bow doesn't matter, only the number. Fire % > Dex.

I only have three pieces of the Unhallowed Essence set: Unsanctified Shoulders, Fiendish Grips, and Unholy Plates.  I'm just having a tough time finding set items that I can actually use.  But my real question is which weapon should I use.  I've been using the Fortress Ballista, but tonight I found a Yang's Recurve.  Which one should I use?  I really like the Ballista so far.

The Yang's Recurve, 100%. It is far better for this build than Ballista could ever be.

And the Yang's Recurve is an endgame weapon?  It'll take me all the way?  Assuming I'm able to find all the other items you've listed in your guide, that is.  It's so frustrating to not be able to find the gear I need.

Definitely. If you can find an Ancient Yang's that is rolled well, that is your weapon slot sorted. It reduces the resource cost of your Multshot by 40-50% and buffs its damage by a huge amount by increasing the attack speed of it.

A brand new season arrives in Diablo 3 next month! Blizzard have the full preview ready so let's take a look at the cosmetic rewards, season journey, Haedrig's Gift sets, and more!
      Season 33 (Source)
Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 33: Shades of the Nephalem. Starting on October 25 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Shades of the Nephalem theme, which first debuted with Season 22. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below. Also, Season 32 will officially come to an end on October 20. Seasonal Journey
      Season Theme
      Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Season Journey Rewards
      Seasonal Conquest
      Haedrig’s Gift
      Patch 2.7.8
      Season Theme
The shadows, they are moving, and they seem… animated. Like they have a will of their own. Whatever this trickery is, perhaps you can use it to your advantage. Let’s see what the demons say when you fight side by side with your own shadow! Shadows of the Past: Activating a Shrine/Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class, who will come with a randomly chosen 1 of 3 predetermined builds. This clone's power will scale with your character and will last for 1 minute (unless your character dies). See this article for the shadow clone variations that can spawn when activating. Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season. This fourth slot will have the choices of the first 3 slots but will not stack with any of them, providing additional flexibility to your build. Return to Top Season Cosmetic Rewards
Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to any who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 33, this means awards originally available from Season 9 are returning to the Season Journey. However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve already participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth in the Trial of Tempests to earn the Stupendous Contraption pet and the Industrial Portrait Frame.
In addition to the Chest and Gloves slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Pandemonium portraits, and the cute and craggily Rocky pet first introduced in Season 9. Return to Top Season Journey Rewards
If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of five: Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a Level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete 2 Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at Level 70 in under fifteen seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Treasure Goblins outside of Nephalem Rifts will sometimes open portals to Greed’s domain, The Vault. Take U There: Reach Greater Rift Level 60 Solo. Greater Rift keystones can be obtained from any Nephalem Rift guardian. Power Amplification: Use Kanai’s Cube to augment an Ancient Legendary item with a Level 50+ gem. Cubic Reconfiguration: Use Kanai’s Cube to reforge a Legendary item. Return to Top Seasonal Conquest
Want to prepare your Conquest plan for Season 33? Here are the challenges you’ll face: For Curses!/Stars Align, pick any Cursed Chest event that requires killing monsters and defeat over 350 or more at level 70 on Torment X or higher. Also returning for Season 33 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at Level 70 in under an hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped. And lastly we'll be bringing back Speed Demon/Need for Speed, meaning you'll need to beat a Torment X Nephalem Rift at Level 70 in 2 minutes. Best of luck! Return to Top Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works: Completing Acts II, III, and IV of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely! The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 33: Barbarian - Might of the Earth Crusader - Thorns of the Invoker Demon Hunter - The Shadow's Mantle Monk - Monkey King's Garb Witch Doctor - Raiment of the Jade Harvester Wizard - Firebird's Finery Necromancer - Grace of Inarius Return to Top Patch 2.7.8
Our next patch goes live on October 22 and introduces quality-of-life updates for demon slayers on Mac. New Mac Executables/Mac Native Silicon and Intel: These updates will allow Diablo III to run on new versions of the macOS. PC Experience Stability: This PTR is open to both Mac and PC players. While the focal point of the 2.7.8 PTR is to test technical updates for Mac, we want PC users to monitor their playing experience as well. If you experience any stability issues or difficulties in connecting with Mac players, please give us that feedback. Return to Top

Season 32 of Diablo 3, Ethereal Memory, will go live later today, and we have prepared a list of various useful and updated guides to help you get started!
The Season of Ethereal Memory will start later today at 5 p.m. PDT (NA Servers), 5 p.m. CEST (EU Servers), and 5 p.m. KST (Asian Servers). The theme of Season 32 was first introduced with Season 24 and is now back for another round!
      What are Ethereal Memories?
The theme of the season reintroduces the Ethereals, which are rare and powerful items known from Diablo II and reimagined for Diablo III. You will be able to hunt for all 21 iconic weapons of Diablo 2 during the season, but this time they will be harder to find and will only drop in Ancient or Primal rarity!

To help you with the start of this new season, our team has been busy updating all of our Diablo 3 guides to reflect all the changes ahead of the season launch. You can find our Season 32 Hub, as well as guides for leveling, the season mechanic, rankings, season start guides for each class, and even conquest guides, in the list below.
General Season Guides Our Season 32 guides include all the information you need to know, from Haedrig's Gift sets to SSF and season mechanic explanations:
Seasonal Leveling Guide Season 32 Compendium Ethereal Memories Solo Self-Found Mode (SSF) Leveling Guides
We have you covered with our updated leveling guidelines, regardless of the class you want to play!
Barbarian Season Start Crusader Season Start DH Season Start Monk Season Start Necromancer Season Start Witch Doctor Season Start Wizard Season Start Season 32 Conquest Guides
Finally, if you need help completing any of the season's conquests, we recommend you check out our individual guides listed below:
Curses! Divinity  Years of War Masters of the Universe Boss Mode Season 32 Cosmetic Rewards
Previous season items make their return this season. If you missed out on rewards originally available in Season 8, you will be able to get them this time. Furthermore, the end of journey rewards (originally introduced in Season 17) are back: The Teganze Warrior portrait frame and the Bat pet!

As an interesting side note, the portrait frame you can earn this season is named after Teganze, a zone that was first introduced in Diablo 2 and will be revisited during our journey in the upcoming expansion of Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred!

Season 32 in Diablo 3 starts on July 12 and here is the official preview with more details.
      (Source)
Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 32: Ethereal Memory. Starting on July 12 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Ethereal Memory theme, which first debuted with Season 24. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below.

      Seasonal Journey
      Season Theme
      Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Season Journey Rewards
      Seasonal Conquest
      Haedrig’s Gift
      Season Theme
As the Nephalem reflect on Sanctuary's history, instruments of power from a bygone era resurface. These ethereal memories will grant those persistent enough to search for them unimaginable power. Legends of the past will manifest once more in the present, and you must decide how to best use these gifts—for ethereal power is fugacious by nature, and will soon return to being no more than a myth.
For this seasonal theme, we were inspired to reimagine how Ethereal items could manifest in Diablo III, with 21 iconic weapons making a return from Diablo II. In Season 32, Ethereals are rare, powerful, and fleeting items.
Season 32 reintroduces Ethereals, a weapon-type that players will be able to acquire and hunt for in their upcoming seasonal journey. Ethereals will roll a powerful set of affixes, a random Class Weapon Legendary Power and a random Class Passive Power. Ethereals will have unique icons, names, item types, and sounds originally found in Diablo II. For additional details on Ethereals, check out the list below:
Ethereals are account bound and can only be dropped by monsters, chests, and destructibles, but do not require your character to be Level 70 in order to drop. Ethereals cannot be acquired through Kanai's Cube or from Kadala. Ethereal rarity drop rate is set between Ancient and Primal items. There are 3 unique Ethereals per class. Each Ethereal has fixed affixes and rolls one random Legendary Weapon power and one random Class Passive Skill. Only one Ethereal can be equipped at a time. Ethereals ignore item durability loss. Legendary Powers and Class Passive Skills rolled on Ethereals do not stack with the same power equipped through Kanai's Cube, Items or Skills. Ethereals cannot be Enchanted, Transmogrified, Dyed, Reforged, or traded. Ethereals can be augmented. Collecting all 21 Ethereals during the season will reward players with the Feat of Strength, Ethereal Recollection. Players who accomplish this will have all Ethereal transmogrify options available for future seasonal and non-seasonal play. Ethereals only drop in Seasonal play and will not transfer to your non-seasonal character when the season ends. Return to Top

In addition to the Boots and Pants slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn a series of portrait frames that smolder with demonic fires of the Burning Hells. The iconic wings of Andariel will also be available once more, allowing you to truly embrace your inner Maiden of Anguish.

      Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey (courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift) have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works:
Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts.
Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 32:
Barbarian – Immortal King’s Call Crusader – Seeker of the Light Demon Hunter – Natalya’s Vengeance Monk – Uliana’s Stratagem Necromancer – Trag’Oul’s Avatar Witch Doctor – Spirit of Arachyr Wizard – Vyr’s Amazing Arcana
