Salvage Guide

Guest TacoThunder

Hi guys,

Love this site, and this list is single-handedly responsible for getting me back into D3. I've managed to clear at least two of my six stash tabs which was one of the major reasons I stopped playing after 2k hours. With more stash space I now feel comfortable buying the Necromancer DLC.

After looking through this thread I see that several people had the same questions I did, so I wrote some copy that I think would be useful to add to the introduction to the document:

Quote

This list is updated automatically. It references the builds throughout the site, and changes as the builds change. A build is considered outdated when <reason>.

I'm not 100% clear on when something becomes outdated. I assume it's not being updated since the latest patch or some span of time, but filling in the blank at the end there would be nice.

Thanks again!

Obviously when mechanics get broken for a build, there is new items for that build that would fit better for boosting the damage, it can't do T13 anymore etc etc. There are a LOT of different possible reasons that a build can be outdated.

Meta changes are always a big point too. If Rat Runs suddenly became useless for some reason, zNecro would likely disappear very quickly with it.

I guess if an item is not listed in the guide then it is not used in any build?

Like, cord of sherma, bulkathos wedding band, sash of knives, etc.

Extremely useful guide!

Yes, that should be the case.

Oh, tho it was supposed to be automatic nowadays?

I can accept that errors are made sometimes but I am dissapointed that errors submitted in June still have not been addressed or responded to.

I passed the issue with BalanceBalance to Deadset, as it is not an issue with the Salvage guide, but the DH guide; thanks for letting us know about it.

As for Nilfur's BoastNilfur's Boast, the listed guides are just variants of the Meteor Build, which is listed as the fourth item. Variants are not listed. When a variant uses an item that the main guide does not, it is listed as the main build, though with the link leading to the variant rather than the main build.

Thank you for the reponse, although I am a little confused now. It looks like the guide has a new format now where variants are listed in parenthesis after the primary build but not actually linked anymore. The report I previously made for Nilfur's BoastNilfur's Boast was because it only reported as a Cube item in the primary build but was not showing that the item should be kept in inventory for the variant. I guess we now need to open each variant to see how the item is used.

Does that mean there is now an issue with how the links are setup for the Lightning Archon Wizard and Arcane Torrent Wizard? Both builds still have items listed under multiple variants in the Salvage Guide.

Also, Briggs' WrathBriggs' Wrath is still used in the Inarius Set Dungeon Guide but is still not showing up in the Salvage Guide.

I told Damien about your commend and this was implemented as a way to show that an item is used not only in the main build, but also variations. It is not refined yet, so we would appreciate your feedback about this change if you have any.

The links still lead to the first page of the build that uses the item. If the item is used in the main build, the link will lead to the gear section, like it did before the change.

Not sure if I understand. Do you mean that items that are used in multiple variations of a build but not in the main build have multiple variations listed, like Shadow Impale Demon Hunter for Stone of Jordan? This is one of the things that still need to be polished.

Thanks! It had Ring of Royal GrandeurRing of Royal Grandeur listed instead. I submitted a fix for this, which should go live in a few hours.

For example, Ancient Parthan DefendersAncient Parthan Defenders is used in both the Solo Progression build for Lightning Archon Wizard and in the Group Progression variant of the Lightning Archon Wizard. Both links are shown under Ancient Parthan DefendersAncient Parthan Defenders in the Salvage Guide.

This contrasts with an example of Nilfur's BoastNilfur's Boast. It is listed once in the Meteor Wizard guide with the added description "(Cube + 5 variations)". In that guide it is used in the Cube in the Firebird Solo Progression build, BiS in the Tal Rasha Solo Progression variant, used in the Cube in the Star Pact variant and BiS in the Speed Farming variant.

I think perhaps you answered my question already in that this is still being polished as builds are currently being listed in different ways right now. In terms of feedback, I like both of the formats used in the examples above but in both cases I have one request/suggestion.

1. If you decide to proceed with the "new" format used in the Nilfur's BoastNilfur's Boast example, it would be lovely if the comments following the link could include something like "(BiS/Cube)" to indicate that it is used as a BiS item and in the Cube in different variants. I can see this as a potential issue in automation since the comments might be difficult to automate. Nilfur's BoastNilfur's Boast is a good example of the potential challenge since the item is used in the primary Meteor Wizard build and in 3 variants, not 5 as is listed in the guide.

2. If including all of the BiS/Cube/Alt information in the description is an issue from an automation standpoint, the "old" format of listing each build link as a separate line still works, as in the above example for Ancient Parthan DefendersAncient Parthan Defenders. If it were at all possible, though, it would be really nice to have the name for each link changed to specify which build variant is being linked. it looks like the build variant name is already included in the URL for each variant, so perhaps this would be easier to automate with how the builds and web pages are currently structured.

In any case, I really appreciate the work that you all do to put all your guides together and the time taken to read and respond to our forum posts.

This is likely the most important resource online for D3 players, so thank you! Please, please, please, make this a priority update for the season 16 changes!

When was this last updated?

If you click on any of the classes you can see the last update for each build. Most were updated in mid May 2019. The salvage guide is linked to those builds and updates automatically. There have been a few isolated instances of links to wrong pages and such, which is what a lot of prior comments were about, but everything that I have personally checked over the past several months has been accurate.

Blizzard have moved the launch of Season 34 back a week!
While it was supposed to start today, Blizzard cite players not wanting the new D3 and D4 season launches to overlap on the same week, and needing more time to get the season properly set up, as the previous one ended early.
      Season 34 Delay (Source)
      Hi all
We have shifted the start for the new season of Diablo III to next week. This is due to a few items:
We received a good amount of feedback that many didn’t want overlap with the first weekend of Diablo IV’s new season. We agree so we are building out that gap and will be more mindful of that going forward.
This will help us properly ensure account states migrate over as we had an issue with the prior season rolling early and us having to kick things back on.
You can find the exact times on our Season 34 blog.

Blizzard has posted an official preview of Diablo 3's upcoming Season 34 that starts on January 24!
The ongoing Season 33 ends on January 19. Season 34 reintroduces the Light's Calling Season theme, which means players can obtain Angelic Crucibles, consumables that may be used to Sanctify any Legendary item, infusing it randomly with one of three new class-specific powers. Cosmetic rewards for the patch are as follows:
Completing the Season 34 Guarian journey grants the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.
Haedrig's Gift will award you with the following sets in Season 34:
Barbarian - Horde of the Ninety Savages Crusader - Aegis of Valor Demon Hunter - Gears of Dreadlands Monk - Patterns of Justice Witch Doctor - Mundunugu’s Regalia Wizard - Typhon’s Veil Necromancer - Masquerade of the Burning Carnival For more information about Season 34, check out the official blog post below.

Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 34: Light’s Calling. Starting on January 24 at 5 p.m. PST/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Light’s Calling theme, which first debuted with Season 27. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below. Also, Season 33 will officially come to an end on January 19.

Looking to turn the tide of an unremitting war between light and darkness, the Angels of the High Heavens have embedded a token of their righteousness in Sanctuary. Cunning Nephalem seeking an advantage in combat will undergo an angelic trial, crystallizing a symbol of their morality into pure, otherworldly perfection. The specific celestial force imbued within by the divine is unknown—an answer waiting to be sought on the battlefield. Go forth, Nephalem!
Season 34 reintroduces Light’s Calling. Valiant Nephalem who recover Angelic Crucibles, a new consumable item, may use them to Sanctify any equippable Legendary item, infusing it with one of three new class-specific powers at random. We wanted to use Angelic Crucibles to lean into the expertise of each class, further exemplifying its respective prowess, but through a nuanced lens. The High Heavens are home to ethereal splendor, bursting with boundless radiance—we wanted to provide players with a taste of untainted power as doled out from Heaven itself.

      Season Cosmetic Rewards
In Season 34, awards originally available from Season 10 are returning. In addition to the Head and Shoulder slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Black Soulstone themed portraits and the scholarly Loremaster pennant first introduced in Season 10.

However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic ones for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth alongside the Shades of the Nephalem and complete the Season 34 Guardian Journey to earn the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.

      Season Journey Rewards
If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of five:
Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete two Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at level 70 in under 15 seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Seasonal Conquest
Seasonal Conquests are additional goals you can complete as part of our Season Journey. To earn all the cosmetic rewards, you'll need to complete at least three of the Conquests below. The challenges available in Season 34 include:
Sprinter and Speed Racer task you with completing Acts I through V at max level in under one hour. Want to go fast while killing things? Boss Mode and Worlds Apart are right up your alley. On A Good Day and I Can’t Stop are making a return, if leveling your Legendary Gems is more your thing. Finally, if you’re keen to prove your mastery of various Class Sets, Years of War and Dynasty will be returning along with Masters of the Universe and Masters of Sets. Best of luck! Return to Top
      Haedrig’s Gift

Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works.
Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. These contain a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely!
The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. In this season, Haedrig's Gift will grant all-new class sets introduced with previous Seasons.
Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 34:
Barbarian - Horde of the Ninety Savages Crusader - Aegis of Valor Demon Hunter - Gears of Dreadlands Monk - Patterns of Justice Witch Doctor - Mundunugu’s Regalia Wizard - Typhon’s Veil Necromancer - Masquerade of the Burning Carnival Return to Top

It seems something went very wrong with Season 33, as it it just... ended a while ago. Players took to the forums as there was no early warning, other than a server message around an hour before it all ended. PezRadar responded clarifying that this is not intended and that Blizzard are looking into what happened.
      Season End (Source)
Heard and got some pings while I’ve been out and I have production checking on this early end. This shouldn’t have ended today so something is funky. Will provide an update once I hear back.

The shadows, they are moving, and they seem… animated. Like they have a will of their own. Whatever this trickery is, perhaps you can use it to your advantage. Let’s see what the demons say when you fight side by side with your own shadow! Shadows of the Past: Activating a Shrine/Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class, who will come with a randomly chosen 1 of 3 predetermined builds. This clone's power will scale with your character and will last for 1 minute (unless your character dies). See this article for the shadow clone variations that can spawn when activating. Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season. This fourth slot will have the choices of the first 3 slots but will not stack with any of them, providing additional flexibility to your build. Return to Top Season Cosmetic Rewards
Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to any who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 33, this means awards originally available from Season 9 are returning to the Season Journey. However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve already participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth in the Trial of Tempests to earn the Stupendous Contraption pet and the Industrial Portrait Frame.
In addition to the Chest and Gloves slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Pandemonium portraits, and the cute and craggily Rocky pet first introduced in Season 9. Return to Top Season Journey Rewards
If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. Want to prepare your Conquest plan for Season 33? Here are the challenges you’ll face: For Curses!/Stars Align, pick any Cursed Chest event that requires killing monsters and defeat over 350 or more at level 70 on Torment X or higher. Also returning for Season 33 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at Level 70 in under an hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped. And lastly we'll be bringing back Speed Demon/Need for Speed, meaning you'll need to beat a Torment X Nephalem Rift at Level 70 in 2 minutes. Best of luck! Return to Top Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works: Completing Acts II, III, and IV of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. Our next patch goes live on October 22 and introduces quality-of-life updates for demon slayers on Mac. New Mac Executables/Mac Native Silicon and Intel: These updates will allow Diablo III to run on new versions of the macOS. PC Experience Stability: This PTR is open to both Mac and PC players. While the focal point of the 2.7.8 PTR is to test technical updates for Mac, we want PC users to monitor their playing experience as well. If you experience any stability issues or difficulties in connecting with Mac players, please give us that feedback. Return to Top
