5.4 Demonology Tips and Quirks

speaking of wrathguard, how are you enjoying supremacy? i'm still seeing top parses using service but that could just be old habits, or a super marginal difference.

Supremacy is nice.  Quality of life talent in that it's completely passive.  And my Wrathguard looks FABULOUS with two Armageddons.  He also doesn't fight me when I tell him to Wrathstorm like his weaker, lesser cousin the Felguard.  Even if Service is a small upgrade, and it would be very small, I'm sticking with Supremacy.

 

Now that's a silly question, I know. I've played destro all the way from 5.1, and now am trying to switch to demo - just for fun. I easily do 210-220 sustained dps as a destro (Sha of Pride), but cannot pass 140k mark as demo. Now, the question is: how does one learn playing demo? Is it raid dummy training, constant stream of LFRs and LFGs, doing dailies with one hand tied to your back, or what? Do I have to play "Live to win" in background in order to succeed in learning?

Hard to identify your issues without logs.  Saying you drop to 140k as Demo is very vague...140k on Immerseus would be AWESOME.  140k to Malkorok would be lame.  You learn by repetition, log analysis, and more repetition.  Demonology is VERY much more complicated than Destruction.  It's one of the more complicated specs in the game.  If you want to excel, prepare to spend some time on it.  Don't do dailies as Demo.  Destro goes boom boom pow to mobs much faster.  Play LFR as Demo and run through different wings to test different strats.  Council is a fantastic multi-target practice fight.  Tortos is a good fight with mostly single target but burst AoE with the bats.  Iron Qon is your best single target fight with some ground clutter and movement.  Lots of ways to improve...just gotta find them.  Practicing on dummies is nice to learn to weave rotations, but to really learn the spec, you have to be fighting something.  You don't see major league baseball players still hitting the ball off of the tee to get better.  They're hitting sliders, fastballs, and curveballs.

i'm ok with aff and destro ( which is a total failure now imo ) and trying to get back in the saddle with demo but goddamn i feel it to be such a pain ... i'm somewhere 180k-200k dps with demo but ... i feel that i fail badly sometimes because of lack of practice i presume but overall YES i don't get it sometimes how can i be so damn stupid trying to bust my fingers playing something that's everything but fun due to its complications / micromanagement nig*ery yet in the end it's the same ... still wanna have THAT viable offspec when its needed or like Zagam says don't pigeon in one spec hoping for the best ... so frustrating

 

i think practice makes it perfect but it sure looks like damn slavery sometimes loel 

 

edit: forgot to mention that  the ULVS opener is just ... LOL ... i feel like shooting someone for making me just remember that

Destro is not a failure spec.  It's very viable in a lot of fights in Siege of Orgrimmar.  It's very easy to get to 90% of a class's capacity.  It's difficult to get to 95%.  It's almost impossible to get to and stay at 100%.  Strive to get better each week, each day, and each wipe.  Things will happen.  Good things.

anyway is it just me or does t16 2pc and 4 pc for demo bonuses doesnt sync. by the time you reach burn phase t16 4pc bonus would be useless..

They sync quite well sub-execution.  Sure, the 4pc bonus falls to the side during execution, but you're trading that for almost a 20% 100% uptime damage buff during execution.  You've also gotta do a couple of ToC's to keep Corruption running anyways.  The 4pc is VERY awesome in the first 75% of a fight while the 2pc picks up the last half.  Don't discredit either...they work together well.

Destro may be good at pewpewing small mobs, but nothing compares with Demonic Leap when you have to pull that liana thing at your farm.

Rocket Boots and Burning Rush, then Darkflight when the boots expire (though I'm not Worgen anymore...). Grab one on each side as you run past it for even more efficiency. Cool part about the boots is if they fail and launch you up, it counts as pulling them, too! XD

Kan'rethad collected the fel energies and wielded cataclysm itself. Now they serve as a farming plow or whatever. This is worth wasting SOME time, I think.

Hey Guys I'm brand new to demo switch from destroy and was wondering if you could help/clear some questions I have

 

1. Should I be going int-hit-mast-haste-crit ? I'm reading as much as I can but I just not sure what to do. also i was going to use mr.robot but it was telling me to gem pure mast? is that right?

 

2. I'm a bit confused with where or not i should be using the glyph of imp swarm or not?

 

3. should i be using fel flame on the move? also should i be casting this instead of shadow bolt?

 

4. should i keep using my normal mode UVLS or upgrade it to one of the new trinks in Soo?

 

I know these probably seem like dumb questions I'm just having a hard time finding out what i should be doing as of 5.4 and not what was done in 5.3 thanks for any help and tips you guys can give me

Not sure you want to delay Meta waiting for a proc that long.  I think if it happens, sweet.  If not, don't wait on it type ordeal.  It's just as nice getting a satisfying free Chaos Wave.  I did have a satisfying moment in a 5 man last night.  Some 4 man guild team came in to get quick valor and probably thought they were carrying the 5th, which happened to be me. We pulled first boss and I did 750k to it while they did like 350k.  This is the dialogue:

 

Other Warlock: must be nice to be so geared but so bad.  Only noobs cast Chaos Wave single target

Me: yeah, you're right about two of those three comments.

I know you said you were reading here and that you were still confused, but every question you pose has been answered thoroughly here.  That said...

1. Haste to threshold > Mastery > Haste > Crit

2. Use it if you like burst.  It requires absolute perfect use to be just a 100-200 DPS gain.  Otherwise, it is a DPS loss.

3. If you don't have KJC, then yes, but only if you're above 85% mana.  Warlocks need to use movement as an opportunity to regain mana.  If you're standing still, you should not prioritize FF over SB.

4. UVLS, regardless of the version, is BiS for Demonology throughout all of SoO.

"Accidently?" doubled when they increased Fel Flame mana cost by 100% to deter Destro users from defaulting to Fel Flame as the filler. They simultaneously buffed incinerate by 5% to make it more attractive. Not sure if it was intended or not.
