Icy Veins' 5 Years Anniversary: 200 Legion Beta Key Giveaway

Recommended Posts

Really looking forward to Demon Hunters. I am happy they're starting at a higher level like they did with DK's, really liked that in wrath, and I think them starting at 98 is a huge incentive to jump right into one without having to catch up on everything. Also the prestige system is drawing me back into pvp

While I'm relatively new to WOW (started playing Warlords of Draenor about 3 moths agoI really enjoy the game and how many different possibilities there are. Just by looking at it there are so many different options for playing through the game again, and i really enjoy that in a game. Legion looks like really cool in general (big fan of the legion, but like not really) and its going to be so cool to have a game when your going head to head against them and their full force. Also the artifact system looks really cool too

Along with the new lore, and the artifact weapons, I think I am the most excited for the new transmog system.  I am not sure what I will do to fill up all of my bags once I no longer need to keep the gear!

I'm looking forward to the refocusing on "class fantasy" and making each class/spec feel unique. Also the new raids - best memories have always been downing those end-of-tier bosses

I've watched Towelliee and a couple others on Twitch and I gotta say, I'm thrilled to see what is to come of WoW. I've been playing since Cata and it has helped me a lot really. I am a 27 yr old who needs another kidney transplant but that's not really important lol. I also enjoy the prestige system.

I am most looking forward to getting back to raiding!  I miss playing with my friends and can't wait to start leveling and raiding together once more.  With that, I am looking forward to the changes to the transmog sets, as I always thought they should allow you to save an "outfit".  I also filled up the Void Storage immediately after they introduced it (both tabs).

Anyways, I haven't read up on the class specific changes, but I can't wait to read the articles for resto druid and what I will need to adapt with the new expansion.

I started playing WoW with the release of Cataclysm, so I don't have a LONG history with the game, but I have had some fun memories raiding with a few guilds.  I loved this one kill we got in SOO, our first recording of the kill, and one of our guilding was yelling and cheering us on since he died 2/3 of the way into the fight.  We have also had some interesting kills, where we kill the boss with our monk tank as the sole survivor.  :)

Anyways, thanks for reading.  I can't wait!

In Legion I think I am most looking forward to end-game progression that isn't raiding - namely, the new Challenge Mode system. I don't really like to schedule time for raiding or gaming in general, and the latest expansions have been really stale in the 5-man department which has always been my favorite content. Also the transmog changes will be a welcome change to my overflowing banks. My fondest memory is probably from my first run of Molten Core back in vanilla. I was playing hunter and they put me in charge of pulling. So it comes time to pull Baron Geddon and every one is finally fully buffed up and we're ready to go. I pop Eyes of the Beast and run down the tunnel. I get to the other side and in my nervousness I couldn't remember which boss I was supposed to pull and the first one I saw was Shazzrah. In my noobishness I of course didn't know Baron Geddon patted through the instance. So I grab Shazz, turn around to head back and here comes Geddon. So Wolfy's got two raid bosses chomping his tail and I announce "inc" to the raid, who are completely unaware of unmitigated disaster that was about to happen. Needless to say, it was a wipe and we spent the next 30 minutes running back and reapplying all the buffs again. Pretty embarassing, but it always reminds me of a time when I was new to the game and everything was met with a sense of wonder and uncertainty

I can't wait to try out all the the major class changes they have made. Such as survival hunter, demo lock, etc. Makes it feel like the game will be different enough to be a lot more fun.

I started playing World of Warcraft in 2005, it was the first computer game I'd played in 10 years - but given I had just been divorced and lost my house, it was something I had heaps of time to do. I loved it from the start - not because of the graphics, but because of the immersion. It was a real escape from the then dismal reality of my life. As the years have gone on, through the ups and downs of WoW the immersion and flexibility of what I can do has held me in thrall to the game. My favourite place and moment was my Night Elf Druid leaving the island and landing in Auberdine. I loved that place, I was so sad to see it destroyed by the Catalcysm - but then again that's what Cataclysms do, they destroy what you love.  In Legion, I'm looking forward to the return to more identifiable specs, a de homogenisation of the classes. I'm someone who much prefers individual uniqueness over balance. These days are coming back in some sense in Legion, and I'm looking forward to that. Schwarzkopf - the original bald gnome.

I'm, like every raider, excited for the next raids, waiting good mechanics and new contents, but for the news, im waiting for the transmog vault to clean my bags, play with a new class (Demon Hunter) and see the quests that blizzard is allways inovating, i think the quests will be very funny and deeply into the lore.I hate the way like itemization in HFC was made, and i think in the next raid blizzard will be comming back with all raid with the same ilvl, because this way made on HFC i hated. My english is not so good, so sorry for any mistake

16593-icy-veins-5-years-anniversary-200-

Grab your chance to win a Legion beta key!

Icy Veins is turning 5 today and we wanted to celebrate it in the best way possible! We're giving all of you the chance to win a key for the upcoming beta of World of Warcraft: Legion!

As 2011 approached, two young gentlemen were sat discussing ideas for a World of Warcraft website. Ideas were passed back and forth, drafts were drawn up and the first edition of the Icy Veins website was released on the 21st of March, 2011. With a total of 3 guides for specialisations, 2 of which were Mage guides, and 1 raid encounter guide, Icy Veins was beginning its long journey.

5 years later and here we are! With a brand new design just released and with more changes planned in the near future, Icy Veins has not only grown, but matured under the watchful eyes of its founders, Damien and Vlad. With their tireless work ethic and their dedication to the site, we've seen Icy Veins expand from a small World of Warcraft guide-hub into a Blizzard-wide gaming community.

I feel like the word community is worth focusing on, since that's the general theme of today's post. With a growing membership on the forums and an increasing viewer-base on our news posts, Icy Veins has grown into a family. Without the users that visit the site each day, Icy Veins could never have become what it is today. Readers allow our team to do what we love: creating content for all of you.

For everything that you have done for us, we thought today would be a perfect day to do something for you.

Legion Beta Key Giveaway

As many of you know, World of Warcraft is releasing its new expansion this year: Legion. The expansion is overhauling a huge number of aspects within the game, as well as introducing a number of new parts into the game.

Many of you won't have been able to experience all of the new content that is being released, so we wanted to help. With the aid of Blizzard, we're giving away 200 keys to the upcoming beta; 100 of the keys will be given out this week, 100 in another giveaway next week. It's a pretty simple giveaway, you'll just need to post an appropriate comment on this post before the 29th of March to enter!

So what is an appropriate comment? We love hearing back from our readers and we love discussions, so why not mix the two and put together a giveaway! We want to know all about your opinions on Legion, as well as WoW itself. Let us know in the comments what you're most looking forward to, as well as your fondest memories in Warcraft history! Whether it's a guild moment, a personal moment or a moment in the game's story itself, we want to hear it.

Rules

As with all of our giveaways, there are some rules:

  • Every comment must be relevant to this article, giving examples of what you look forward to in Legion and what you enjoyed in the past.
  • The first giveaway will end on the 29th of March at 23:59 GMT.
  • Only one comment will be counted per person.
  • Comments on the linked articles will also be included in the draw if they are relevant to the topics.
  • Commenting on multiple topics will not increase your chances of winning.
  • The winner will be drawn randomly from all the comments that are deemed "acceptable".
  • It is at our discretion which comments will be deemed acceptable, based on the extent to which they stay relevant to this article.
  • We will not release the dates on which the keys will be released, as Blizzard have requested us not to do so.
  • We do not know when the Beta will start, so please do not analyse our article hoping to find that. It's not there.
  • The comments section will be checked via a bot used in previous giveaways, so multiple comments will be found.
  • We have tools to detect cheating, so please don't bother.
  • We reserve the right to stop anyone competing if we believe they are cheating.

Legion Information

If you're struggling for inspiration or you haven't been able to explore some of the information being released from the Alpha, we've made sure to give you a few pointers below:

Players will be equipped with the mightiest weapons of Azeroth, the artifact weapons, each tied to our classes with a unique link in lore. If you're looking to find some additional information on the lore behind your weapons, as well as some of the alternatives, you can always check out the artifact series we featured!

If the artifacts aren't quite tantalising enough, there's always the swathe of new dungeons being introduced with the expansion, such as the Arcway.

Still not excited? You must be a PvPer then! Worry not, there's a sparkling new prestige system being introduced, as well as a number of changes to the way PvP will work from now on.

Still? You're a tough one to please. Maybe you prefer a more pacifist route through Azeroth? You'll be able to enjoy more costumes and outfits than ever before with the new transmogrification and wardrobe systems

You can also check out the interviews I had with Venruki, Treckie and Tegu in our "Will Legion Save WoW?" article. You'll get perspectives on changes from some of the best players in the world in both PvP and PvE!

Before you enter, make sure that your computer is up to scratch for the Legion client by checking the system requirements.

While I'm not entering, I'll never miss out on a chance to take part in the fun! Personally, my favourite part in Legion so far and what I am looking forward to most is the lore surrounding certain characters. I don't want to put spoilers into this post, but you can check out the fate of some of them in our spoilers posts (Part 2). As a favourite moment of WoW, it would have to be the moment I first saw C'thun. The constant taunting as you approach, his appearance, it was just amazing. That for me is the peak of nostalgic feeling towards this game.

That's it from me. Good luck to you all and I can't wait to read your replies!

I'm very much looking forward to Legion and hope to get in beta at some point. I really like the direction they seem to be going with things like tanks and what seems to be a much better approach to PVP. I hope I enjoy my monk as much as I did in Pandaria

Five years? Congrats guys, and you're also younger than I thought.

I've been playing my Hunter since late 2005, and for the first time, Legion has me excited to be a hunter in a new x-pac. I've been feeling more and more like a generic ranged player as each expansion progressed. This feeling started for me around the time they took ammunition away in Wrath. I think I was about 2 weeks away from getting access to the best rep ammo in the Caverns of time.

Don't get me wrong, I don't miss ammo. I just miss feeling like my spec was special. Class fantasy is a serious draw for me to want Legion to launch as soon as possible. It's gonna be weird not to have access to traps (as a beast master), but in the end, I think it will be worth it.

For me, it's invigorating that Blizzard is willing to shake things up so much with this xPac. I'm very happy that they still take risks.

I hope that Blizzard will do their best with this expansion. It has a really big potential to be one of the best expansion. There is alot of content and alot of ways in endgame for players how to obtain gear. But as a "lore fan" I´m really looking forward to the story progression and Legion ending. After reading Chronicles and hearing some plot in a Illidan novel, it will be really interesting in a Legion. So I´m excited for lore plot at the first place. But also as a retired raider, the new raids and dungeons are cool as usual. I´m really looking forward to fight Guldan. What did I enjoy in a past? Well, Mists of Pandaria was a really good expansion, so It was for me one of the best in terms of lore so far. TBC is a 2nd, but Pandaria was great because of tons of new lore and epic storytelling throughout the whole expansion (Lorewalker Cho, Wrathion questline, Scenarios). It gives something new into the storytelling. And my best memory from WoW in general? Maybe first leveling experience while I started to play WoW back in TBC. When I leveled my first character, that was the most epic feeling in a game, because I didn´t know anything about the game and that content was amazing because you didn´t know what you could expect at the end of the journey of leveling (if you hadn´t read something about that before). And another memory is not so far from now. The raiding (like serious raiding) back in a MoP was the best experience. I´ve raided like 3 years without any break so that was epic for me and it brings alot of good memories aswell as bad(raid progression is not about just good moments).  And my opinion on WoW? Well WoW is on a decline. But there is still a chance for WoW in Legion. But game has to be changed a little bit for 2016 standards (kids plays MOBAs these days, so they arent familiar with multiple buttons and skills, so that´s what Legion is doing. Changing WoW in a way, when it will be friendly towards the new players).

I have to admit, I was trying really, really hard not to be too hyped for Legion. Big expectations can lead to big disappointments after all.ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN.  Especially now that MM hunters (my oldest and most played toon/spec) are getting pets back in this latest build. I am looking forward to enjoying and exploring the new zones with my husband. I am seriously curious about how the story lines are going to tie together and evolve since the zones wont be linear and you can do them in any order that tickles your fancy. I also like the attention that 5man dungeons seem to be getting this expac. I love running dungeons, both for leveling purposes and for a fun activity to do with guildies at endgame when you don't have enough online for a raid. To be honest, I haven't been this excited about WoW since Wrath.

I'm looking forward to the revamped demonology warlock and finally being able to play a demon hunter. Also hopefully getting new lore on the Naaru one of my favorite memories in wow is back in WOTLK doing Crusader Bridenbrad's quest chain and having A'dal show up at the end and say the light doesn't abandon it's champions and uplifting him.

I'm interested with how they handle Demon hunters. Alliance players may know that they have been in the game since Cataclysm with the idea there may be some about the world already. I'm also looking forward to seeing how the world of Warlords of Draenor fits into all this. It would be odd to crate all of this and then just leave it. I'm a bit nervous about artifact weapon talents, it looks pretty complicated. The thing I'm looking forward to most though is the class hall. I love the Garrison, and am hoping you can use some of that in the hall, again hoping they tie the two expansions somehow

Today, we release our Path of Exile site. It is not entirely finished yet, but the content is there and we felt comfortable sharing it with Path of Exile players from our current audience.
This is a project that we have been working on for quite some time (so nothing to do with the recent Diablo announcements or lack thereof). We developed a CMS from the ground up, using our many years of experience with Icy Veins as a basis for the various features we required on the publishing side of the site. We also added things such as a proper item database or a dev tracker. These are things we can't have on Icy Veins, because the tech the site is running on would not permit it. Hopefully, one day we can run Icy Veins on our new tech and do all these things, if we feel like it.
As I was saying above, the site is not 100% ready, but it is very close in terms of features. We worked hard in the past two weeks to fix all major bugs, so that end users can have a smooth experience, and we have enough content to cover the currently most popular builds. So we are waiting for your feedback!

Currently you will find the following things on the site: guides and news for Path of Exile, an item database (still missing out a couple of base items), a dev tracker (Official Forums + Twitter + Reddit), and of course forums where people can discuss about that game.
Our guide offering is currently as follows:
Triple Herald Blade Vortex Elementalist Build Arc Mines Saboteur Build Guide Glacial Cascade Mines Saboteur Build Guide Ancestral Warchief Ascendant Build Guide Ascendant Hit Elemental Build Guide Aurabot Ascendant, 8 Auras Build Guide The Cleave Ascendant Build Guide Herald of Agony Occultist Build Guide Frostbolt/Glacial Cascade Totems Hierophant Build Guide Uber Labyrinth Farmer Juggernaut Build Guide Rain of Arrows Deadeye Build Guide Tornado Shot Deadeye Build Guide The Baron Zombies/Skeletons Necromancer Build Guide Toxic Rain Pathfinder Build Blade Flurry Gladiator Build Guide Spectral Throw Raider Build Guide Cyclone Slayer Build Guide We also have a beginner guide for fresh exiles.
With all that said, we're hoping to see you on that new website and are looking forward to your comments!
Please welcome our newest website on Path of Exile!
