Icy Veins' 5 Years Anniversary: 200 Legion Beta Key Giveaway

Recommended Posts

IV is the only place I come to when I want to brush up on an old spec, or learn a new spec all together. The guides here are comprehensive and complete feeling, and overall very helpful. As far as Legion, I'm totally stoked to destroy my enemies with the power of the Ashbringer (and Doomhammer)!

And... my most fond memory of WoW would definitely be tanking Curator without my pants on because I didn't take enough damage to keep aggro (Old SA anyone?).

I am most looking forward to the Death Knight class. Blood and Frost have been my favorites for some time now but the new minion master twist on Unholy has me intrigued as well. With tri-spec I am sure I'm going to dump a lot of time into my DK.

My fondest memory of the game is probably still when I was a fairly new undead mage. I had just reached Tarren Mill and I spotted an Alliance priest who was only a few levels higher than me. I decided that priests were obviously just healers so I should attack her... while I was running back to my corpse I remember thinking about how many people I had seen back at Tarren Mill and how I should ask them to help me kill this priest.

It turns out they were all there because the Alliance and Horde had been scuffling for several hours and my priest siting was not an accident of fate. The priest was scouting for the Alliance group that was mustering their forces at Southshore. I tried to find her again but was surprised by a max level rogue who made very swift work of me.

Over the course of the next few hours I died to basically every class in the game. Being low level I didn't mind this, and figured it was expected, as long as I could contribute in some way. I spent my time trying to hang back and cast frostbolts at enemies thinking I could slow them and help out our team, even if most of them missed.

It was way more fun than I expected, and I haven't really found a similar experience since then. Good times though.

Mostly looking forward to some new raids, HFC is a pretty decent raid tier in my opinion but one tier can only last for so long. The artifact weapons also look really interesting, and the class halls are really cool. Also getting Dalaran back is pretty sweet, too.

I'm really looking forward to legion as a whole! I have been keeping up with all the information regarding legion since the very first announcement and even though i haven't had the luck of being able to try everything out myselfe, from what I have read and seen so far, I think it's a sure thing to say that Blizzard realized how badly they messed up with WoD and what they have to do in the future to avoid the mistakes they made.

Artifact weapons look simply amazing (at least all the warlock ones, which I am very glad for). But they don't only look amazing, they also give you something to do in the endgame, something to work towards. Especially players who play DPS only classes like I myselfe, will hopefully be able to spend a lot of time developing all three artifacts to full power while experiencing a steady progress on the way.

Next thing the new challenge mode system:

During WoD the challenge modes were only of interrest during the first few weeks (for the gear boxes obtained by doing the quest) and after that maybe once on every char for the transmog. In legion however, they are able to keep them relevant for everyone who want's to do them through the scaling mechanism, from a super casual, only playing on weekends, to the cutting edge mythic progress raider. In other words, Blizz finally gives the players what they asked for for so long: relevant and enjoyable 5 man content throughout the addon (while also giving us in general just more stuff to do for endgame)!

Other great sounding things I dont know too much about yet but also want to mention are the new crafting system (finally! The old one was more than overdue!), the new follower system (everything new sounds great in comparison to the WoD version, doesn't it? :D) and the dynamic event thing happening in the whole world (if they give us a good reason for doing them, aka revards, and make them interesting).

If the mythic raiding stays atleast as good as it was in Warlords, Legion is going to be everything I ever could hope for!

As to my best memorie in WoW so far, thats probably my very first playthrough of the nightelf starting area as well as darkshore on my very first char, a nightelf druid, back in TBC. Wow was my first mmo and it simply felt epic! The world, the atmosphere, the amazing background music, the feeling of going to your trainer, learning new spells and growing stronger. I sonetimes wish to be able to experience this game again from a noobish perspective like back then.

Like many, the thing I'm most excited about is the Demon Hunter. I plan to play Vengeance.

I've wanted to play a Demon Hunter in WoW since I first started playing. Being a massive fan of Warcraft III and Illidan in particular I always felt like he got a raw deal with the way he was handled in Burning Crusade, I'm really glad that he's back and bringing a bunch of Illidari with him.

16593-icy-veins-5-years-anniversary-200-

Grab your chance to win a Legion beta key!

Icy Veins is turning 5 today and we wanted to celebrate it in the best way possible! We're giving all of you the chance to win a key for the upcoming beta of World of Warcraft: Legion!

As 2011 approached, two young gentlemen were sat discussing ideas for a World of Warcraft website. Ideas were passed back and forth, drafts were drawn up and the first edition of the Icy Veins website was released on the 21st of March, 2011. With a total of 3 guides for specialisations, 2 of which were Mage guides, and 1 raid encounter guide, Icy Veins was beginning its long journey.

5 years later and here we are! With a brand new design just released and with more changes planned in the near future, Icy Veins has not only grown, but matured under the watchful eyes of its founders, Damien and Vlad. With their tireless work ethic and their dedication to the site, we've seen Icy Veins expand from a small World of Warcraft guide-hub into a Blizzard-wide gaming community.

I feel like the word community is worth focusing on, since that's the general theme of today's post. With a growing membership on the forums and an increasing viewer-base on our news posts, Icy Veins has grown into a family. Without the users that visit the site each day, Icy Veins could never have become what it is today. Readers allow our team to do what we love: creating content for all of you.

For everything that you have done for us, we thought today would be a perfect day to do something for you.

Legion Beta Key Giveaway

As many of you know, World of Warcraft is releasing its new expansion this year: Legion. The expansion is overhauling a huge number of aspects within the game, as well as introducing a number of new parts into the game.

Many of you won't have been able to experience all of the new content that is being released, so we wanted to help. With the aid of Blizzard, we're giving away 200 keys to the upcoming beta; 100 of the keys will be given out this week, 100 in another giveaway next week. It's a pretty simple giveaway, you'll just need to post an appropriate comment on this post before the 29th of March to enter!

So what is an appropriate comment? We love hearing back from our readers and we love discussions, so why not mix the two and put together a giveaway! We want to know all about your opinions on Legion, as well as WoW itself. Let us know in the comments what you're most looking forward to, as well as your fondest memories in Warcraft history! Whether it's a guild moment, a personal moment or a moment in the game's story itself, we want to hear it.

Rules

As with all of our giveaways, there are some rules:

  1. Every comment must be relevant to this article, giving examples of what you look forward to in Legion and what you enjoyed in the past.
  2. The first giveaway will end on the 29th of March at 23:59 GMT.
  3. Only one comment will be counted per person.
  4. Comments on the linked articles will also be included in the draw if they are relevant to the topics.
  5. Commenting on multiple topics will not increase your chances of winning.
  6. The winner will be drawn randomly from all the comments that are deemed "acceptable".
  7. It is at our discretion which comments will be deemed acceptable, based on the extent to which they stay relevant to this article.
  8. We will not release the dates on which the keys will be released, as Blizzard have requested us not to do so.
  9. We do not know when the Beta will start, so please do not analyse our article hoping to find that. It's not there.
  10. The comments section will be checked via a bot used in previous giveaways, so multiple comments will be found.
  11. We have tools to detect cheating, so please don't bother.
  12. We reserve the right to stop anyone competing if we believe they are cheating.

Legion Information

If you're struggling for inspiration or you haven't been able to explore some of the information being released from the Alpha, we've made sure to give you a few pointers below:

Players will be equipped with the mightiest weapons of Azeroth, the artifact weapons, each tied to our classes with a unique link in lore. If you're looking to find some additional information on the lore behind your weapons, as well as some of the alternatives, you can always check out the artifact series we featured!

If the artifacts aren't quite tantalising enough, there's always the swathe of new dungeons being introduced with the expansion, such as the Arcway.

Still not excited? You must be a PvPer then! Worry not, there's a sparkling new prestige system being introduced, as well as a number of changes to the way PvP will work from now on.

Still? You're a tough one to please. Maybe you prefer a more pacifist route through Azeroth? You'll be able to enjoy more costumes and outfits than ever before with the new transmogrification and wardrobe systems

You can also check out the interviews I had with Venruki, Treckie and Tegu in our "Will Legion Save WoW?" article. You'll get perspectives on changes from some of the best players in the world in both PvP and PvE!

Before you enter, make sure that your computer is up to scratch for the Legion client by checking the system requirements.

While I'm not entering, I'll never miss out on a chance to take part in the fun! Personally, my favourite part in Legion so far and what I am looking forward to most is the lore surrounding certain characters. I don't want to put spoilers into this post, but you can check out the fate of some of them in our spoilers posts (Part 2). As a favourite moment of WoW, it would have to be the moment I first saw C'thun. The constant taunting as you approach, his appearance, it was just amazing. That for me is the peak of nostalgic feeling towards this game.

That's it from me. Good luck to you all and I can't wait to read your replies!

I'm SUPER HYPED FOR legion. Everything looks awsome. The two things I'm most hyped about is the artifacts and lore (I'm a huge lore nerd).

I am most looking forward to artifacts and how they affect the game.  Unlike most, I liked the latest expansion and enjoyed it immensely.  I can't wait for the next expansion and raiding.  While killing H. Archimonde was satisfying, I enjoyed killing H. Blackhand the last weekend you could get the achievement even more.

My fondest memory has to be when I beta tested vanilla wow.  I still recall first logging on with my dwarf warrior and exploring an amazing world.  Sadly, I haven't beta tested any of the expansions and would love the opportunity to do so.

I have been super hyped for all the Paladin changes! Being able to wield The Ashbringer has been a long time fantasy for me and I'm also excited to finally play a Demon Hunter. My best memories with this game is raiding Kharazan back in my younger days. So many great memories!

I'm excited for Sylvannas coming back to the history of Warcraft! Like, since Wrath she hasn't been doing much, only a little bit in Siege of Orgrimmar, but nothing special. And now she will be the new Warchief of the Horde and I'm just: OMG! Let's see what will Sylvannas do while she has the power, maybe more plague being used to kill demons and the worgens ^^.

Now, I started playing in Wrath and I'm glad I could start playing in that time, because, my first raid was ICC and when Arthas killed the entire raid I just released my spirit. And I just fought it was bugged and died many times trying to get back to the Frozen Throne xD. And overall, I think Blizzard is doing a GREAT job with WoW, even if some people say that WoW is dying (ignorants tongue.png ), and I hope Legion will be another great expansion as all have been in my opinion smile.png

I just can't wait to get into it, the new systems are a refreshing touch to the game, and as I am a lore junkie, I just can't wait to see what happens next to Gul'dan and who will be the final raid boss!

I'm mostly looking forward to testing out the new artifact weapons for the classes and seeing what kind of content blizzard will push out for the artifact points! Also, the new demon hunter looks pretty promising!

As a fellow lore junkie I can't wait for legion.  The story line looks amazing and the characters are very interesting.  Of course I am looking forward to playing a demon hunter, as I've wanted to play one since first exploring Shadow moon valley in Outland.  This expansion promises to be a great addition to the current game!

What I am most excited about..

The lore, definetly. Are we actually going to find a weapon against Sargeras and battle Sargeras himself? Summoning the S-man himself is The Burning Legion best hand, Archimonde (x2) and KJ have both failed and their just his puppets, he must show up himself if he wants Azeroth and the Soul-god within so that's what I hope we get to see.

As for the best moment.. I think actually walking into Karazan for the first time back in TBC was my highest moment, the whole mystery about the place was enough to give me goosebumps.

A close second is the realm race in MoP, and even though it contains one of my worst PvE moments, losing Lei Shen realm first with a 0.01% wipe, it's still the best progression run I've ever had, with the most social, enthusiastic and passionate guild I've ever been in.

And what we accomplished with so few hours\perweek.. it would've been a landmark in PvE history if we had pulled it off.

Maybe Legion can bring me and every other progression lovers out there the same experience :)

\o/

Today, we release our Path of Exile site. It is not entirely finished yet, but the content is there and we felt comfortable sharing it with Path of Exile players from our current audience.
This is a project that we have been working on for quite some time (so nothing to do with the recent Diablo announcements or lack thereof). We developed a CMS from the ground up, using our many years of experience with Icy Veins as a basis for the various features we required on the publishing side of the site. We also added things such as a proper item database or a dev tracker. These are things we can't have on Icy Veins, because the tech the site is running on would not permit it. Hopefully, one day we can run Icy Veins on our new tech and do all these things, if we feel like it.
As I was saying above, the site is not 100% ready, but it is very close in terms of features. We worked hard in the past two weeks to fix all major bugs, so that end users can have a smooth experience, and we have enough content to cover the currently most popular builds. So we are waiting for your feedback!

Currently you will find the following things on the site: guides and news for Path of Exile, an item database (still missing out a couple of base items), a dev tracker (Official Forums + Twitter + Reddit), and of course forums where people can discuss about that game.
Our guide offering is currently as follows:
Triple Herald Blade Vortex Elementalist Build Arc Mines Saboteur Build Guide Glacial Cascade Mines Saboteur Build Guide Ancestral Warchief Ascendant Build Guide Ascendant Hit Elemental Build Guide Aurabot Ascendant, 8 Auras Build Guide The Cleave Ascendant Build Guide Herald of Agony Occultist Build Guide Frostbolt/Glacial Cascade Totems Hierophant Build Guide Uber Labyrinth Farmer Juggernaut Build Guide Rain of Arrows Deadeye Build Guide Tornado Shot Deadeye Build Guide The Baron Zombies/Skeletons Necromancer Build Guide Toxic Rain Pathfinder Build Blade Flurry Gladiator Build Guide Spectral Throw Raider Build Guide Cyclone Slayer Build Guide We also have a beginner guide for fresh exiles.
With all that said, we're hoping to see you on that new website and are looking forward to your comments!
Please welcome our newest website on Path of Exile!
