Icy Veins' 5 Years Anniversary: 200 Legion Beta Key Giveaway

Recommended Posts

First of all, Happy birthday Icy-veins! It has come a long way :)

Mainly i'm looking forward to trying Demonhunters, and some of all the class-changes to existing classes. Still trying to decide whether i want to play SP, DK, Rogue, Warlock or DH (depending on how awesome they are).

What i enjoyed most in the past was running through Molten Core with 39 other headless chickens, while trying not to ninja pull everything.
Or the fooling around in Naxx, ninja pulling everything and clearing it faster than the other raid group in the guild cleared 1 wing.

Grab your chance to win a Legion beta key!

Icy Veins is turning 5 today and we wanted to celebrate it in the best way possible! We're giving all of you the chance to win a key for the upcoming beta of World of Warcraft: Legion!

As 2011 approached, two young gentlemen were sat discussing ideas for a World of Warcraft website. Ideas were passed back and forth, drafts were drawn up and the first edition of the Icy Veins website was released on the 21st of March, 2011. With a total of 3 guides for specialisations, 2 of which were Mage guides, and 1 raid encounter guide, Icy Veins was beginning its long journey.

5 years later and here we are! With a brand new design just released and with more changes planned in the near future, Icy Veins has not only grown, but matured under the watchful eyes of its founders, Damien and Vlad. With their tireless work ethic and their dedication to the site, we've seen Icy Veins expand from a small World of Warcraft guide-hub into a Blizzard-wide gaming community.

I feel like the word community is worth focusing on, since that's the general theme of today's post. With a growing membership on the forums and an increasing viewer-base on our news posts, Icy Veins has grown into a family. Without the users that visit the site each day, Icy Veins could never have become what it is today. Readers allow our team to do what we love: creating content for all of you.

For everything that you have done for us, we thought today would be a perfect day to do something for you.

Legion Beta Key Giveaway

As many of you know, World of Warcraft is releasing its new expansion this year: Legion. The expansion is overhauling a huge number of aspects within the game, as well as introducing a number of new parts into the game.

Many of you won't have been able to experience all of the new content that is being released, so we wanted to help. With the aid of Blizzard, we're giving away 200 keys to the upcoming beta; 100 of the keys will be given out this week, 100 in another giveaway next week. It's a pretty simple giveaway, you'll just need to post an appropriate comment on this post before the 29th of March to enter!

So what is an appropriate comment? We love hearing back from our readers and we love discussions, so why not mix the two and put together a giveaway! We want to know all about your opinions on Legion, as well as WoW itself. Let us know in the comments what you're most looking forward to, as well as your fondest memories in Warcraft history! Whether it's a guild moment, a personal moment or a moment in the game's story itself, we want to hear it.

Rules

As with all of our giveaways, there are some rules:

  1. Every comment must be relevant to this article, giving examples of what you look forward to in Legion and what you enjoyed in the past.
  2. The first giveaway will end on the 29th of March at 23:59 GMT.
  3. Only one comment will be counted per person.
  4. Comments on the linked articles will also be included in the draw if they are relevant to the topics.
  5. Commenting on multiple topics will not increase your chances of winning.
  6. The winner will be drawn randomly from all the comments that are deemed "acceptable".
  7. It is at our discretion which comments will be deemed acceptable, based on the extent to which they stay relevant to this article.
  8. We will not release the dates on which the keys will be released, as Blizzard have requested us not to do so.
  9. We do not know when the Beta will start, so please do not analyse our article hoping to find that. It's not there.
  10. The comments section will be checked via a bot used in previous giveaways, so multiple comments will be found.
  11. We have tools to detect cheating, so please don't bother.
  12. We reserve the right to stop anyone competing if we believe they are cheating.

Legion Information

If you're struggling for inspiration or you haven't been able to explore some of the information being released from the Alpha, we've made sure to give you a few pointers below:

Players will be equipped with the mightiest weapons of Azeroth, the artifact weapons, each tied to our classes with a unique link in lore. If you're looking to find some additional information on the lore behind your weapons, as well as some of the alternatives, you can always check out the artifact series we featured!

If the artifacts aren't quite tantalising enough, there's always the swathe of new dungeons being introduced with the expansion, such as the Arcway.

Still not excited? You must be a PvPer then! Worry not, there's a sparkling new prestige system being introduced, as well as a number of changes to the way PvP will work from now on.

Still? You're a tough one to please. Maybe you prefer a more pacifist route through Azeroth? You'll be able to enjoy more costumes and outfits than ever before with the new transmogrification and wardrobe systems

You can also check out the interviews I had with Venruki, Treckie and Tegu in our "Will Legion Save WoW?" article. You'll get perspectives on changes from some of the best players in the world in both PvP and PvE!

Before you enter, make sure that your computer is up to scratch for the Legion client by checking the system requirements.

While I'm not entering, I'll never miss out on a chance to take part in the fun! Personally, my favourite part in Legion so far and what I am looking forward to most is the lore surrounding certain characters. I don't want to put spoilers into this post, but you can check out the fate of some of them in our spoilers posts (Part 2). As a favourite moment of WoW, it would have to be the moment I first saw C'thun. The constant taunting as you approach, his appearance, it was just amazing. That for me is the peak of nostalgic feeling towards this game.

That's it from me. Good luck to you all and I can't wait to read your replies!

I love transmogging.  Looking forward to the space saving aspect in Legion.  But I also like crafting.  I hope crafting is better in Legion and if there is a new craft or two, well yay.  Mostly looking forward to a new class to play.

Happy anniversary Icy Vein's! I have been playing wow since the european launch! I would like to take a taste of BETA for several reasons:

First, I would like to test for differents computers the new graphic requirements and whether it is possible to play with old computers. To me this is critical as I run a cyber cafe and it is very important to know which computers must be updated.

Second, I am a huge fan of the game and I would like to see the new changes done to the different classes and how this changes affect the addons that I have built for the game.

Thank you in advance!

As mythic raider I am really looking forward to Legion. My main is Warlock and im going to main it in Legion aswell because I can become Necromancer aka Demonology (Finnaly!!!! woohooo). But still i am worried how are legendaries going to play out in Legion. Really love new artifact system and Skull for warlock. I watch almost every day streams about Legion alpha. My favourite dungeon to watch so far is Vault of Wardens, it brings new stuff (like controling the light, which is cool). I have already pre-ordered Legion and cannot wait to play it. smile.png

Edit: I am looking forward to lore aswell, cannot wait to get my hands on Chronicles :D

A memorable time for me was during the beginning of WoTLK. My friend had joined a guild and had begun raiding. He was telling myself and the rest of my friends how easy the boss Heigan the Unclean was but the rest of his raid keeps dying to easily avoidable mechanics.

After a couple of more failed attempts his guild stopped for the night and my friend continued to rant about how the fight is so easy it could be 5 manned. We decided to test his theory and we went back that night to attempt to 4 man it with 2 more of our friends. We went in as a blood dk, ret paladin, holy paladin and warlock.

After some tricky pulls and wall hugging we arrived at the boss. We start the fight after reading a bit about the mechanics. We start the fight and realize how easy the fight is and that we could actually complete this without a full 10 man. Slowly we brought him down with the only scary part being the disease that was applied to us losing our warlock during this phase. Bringing him down as a 4 man was very rewarding and I managed to get my first raid weapon, Demise.

Since then we have attempted content many times at less than recommended players to create new challenge for ourselves. We even made new characters and were able to 3 man all heroics as fresh 80's in WoTLK, the hardest one being Trial of the Champion. The Black Knight boss was very difficult as a fresh 80 3 man lol.

Anyways I am very excited to attempt new heroic content. Especially after watching the NA vs EU dungeon race that was streamed on twitch. The extra focus on heroics has me hopeful for this expansion. I find myself reading up on changes every week and tuning in to streamers to get a taste of the alpha.

Also happy about the transmog changes and I will finally be able to clean out all the extra gear in my bank I was holding onto!

The things I'm looking forward to the most:

1. Hunter redesign. Hunter is currently my preferred class for a variety of reasons, and I'm really interested is experiencing firsthand the changes that they're introducing.

2. PvP redesign. Now, let it be clear: I DO NOT PvP OUT OF PERSONAL INTEREST! I only PvP when the bonus event quest requires it. Hell, if I'm attacked out in the world, I either run away or try to die as quickly as possible. However, PvP being separate from PvE means that Blizzard can finally balance them separately, so PvE will be more balanced as well. Tons of current frustrations involving performance in raids for me stem from PvP balance changes.

3. General talent redesign. Most specs currently have only 2 or 3 talent tiers that improve performance. In Legion, from what I can see, every spec has at least 4 talent tiers that make you better at your core role, and the remaining tiers either increase your mobility or have at least 1 talent that's at least of some use for raiding.

I especially look back fondly to the fun time I had getting pre-Cata Loremaster on my old main. That was so enjoyable and taught me a lot about the storyline. Part of the fun was looking through all the zones, trying to find the last quests, using addons and Wowhead to help me with it. I love scavenger hunts.

I've started playing WoW back in mid of Wrath of the Lich king and I've had lots of fun playing it and gained lots of friends<3 if I got the beta access i would be one of the happiest guys on the planet :D

Sadly I've never tried any beta... But this year fate might favor me to play Legion's beta and test the things I'm excited about like artifacts and the things that will happen with Illidan!!

I am mostly interested in playing with the demon hunter class. I would be glad if I had the chance to try one out early. In addition, I want to explore their lore and see how the world is affected by Illidan's comeback and how this is presented in the game.

Furthermore, I am a veteran PvPer, thus I am interested in trying out the new PvP system along with the changes coming to the Enhancement shaman (my current main char).

Good luck to all ;)

Well, im a transmog whore so id say that the new wardrobe is extreamly exciting for me, especially sience it clears up so much room in my bank and void storage! ^^

Also, the new animations are pretty dope! :D

everything else is also really exciting, however i think these two are the most relevant for me as a player ^^

Fell in love with my shadow priest during end of Cataclysm ( Dragon soul raids). But since ToT en SoO I realy put work in to my class and go all out, Raiding heroic and doing pvp. Now in WoD i first began te raid with my shadow priest but after a while i didnt liked the way they were ( with CoP ). I really missed the whole snapshotting and Dots so went to my old DK. I really looking forward to Legion as these 2 classes will be my first characters I will lvl to max. Hope I can test them out during the Beta and make sure on which class will be my main ( seeing the arctifact weapon will be important thing to max out asap )

One thing is for sure, I will level up a Demon hunter as an alt. Every one in the guild want to "main" one and there wont be enough room on the roster.

I wonder how the pvp aspect of the game will work out in legion. if you can get prestige lvls and do arena at the same time ( since prestige resets all the talents??) And ofcourse the new Challenge mode. will be quite interresting how far we can go with my friends.

So much things too look out for in Legion, I can't wait until launch day, pulling a allnighter with friends!

I really want to see how the new PvP system works. I like the idea of prestige quite a lot actually. Also I'm very excited for the Demon Hunters and the other classes, since there are quite a few changes to them. Survival hunter seems very exciting as a melee spec. I am really hyped for this expansion and what I have seen so far doesn't seem to dissapoint.

I'm really looking forward to the druid artifact models. It will be fun to have a sense of progression visible while performing our role that is visible to others. I'm also looking forward to the bear tank changes.

I really look forward to how the new challenge modes would work out, apart from the raidnights it's nice to have something you can bunch up a few people and progress something else, more options of content makes me happy panda.

I think my fondest memory from WoW was when I was progressing LK25, as I was sitting at a LAN, and a friend of mine who was there was also progressing with his guild at the same boss, at the same time, and they had been at it for as long as we. So we turned it into a bet, the one to kill it first would get a big pack of coke from the other, and further into the evening I turned out to be the victorious.

There are too many things to mention that I'm looking forward to in Legion. For the first time in a long while, I'm extremely excited for the lore involved within the quest lines. With the few spoilers released regarding questing, it'll also be the first time I'm considering switching faction just to experience the game with the warchief change :D

Aside from questing, seeing how my main spec plays is going to be awesome, as long as there isn't too much pruning. I truly look forward to completing new challenges with the overhaul and adding to my collections of mounts, pets and of course, transmog.

Good luck everyone :D

Well, overall I really can't wait for the entire expansion to come out it all just looks so good, but if I was to pin point a few things they would have to be Frost DK playstyle, Boomkin Playstile, the New Artifact System and the sweet sweet class that is Demon Hunters.

Probably the most excited I've been for an expansion since WotLK!

Excited to be able to play what I want to play with out having to worry about my class under performing, sure there will probably be dps, healers and tanks that are easier or a little better than others but it finally looks like you can be competitive as long as you know your class well rather than just going for the class with the most face roll.

The only problem is that everything looks fun and I'm having some serious trouble picking what I want to main.

Today, we release our Path of Exile site. It is not entirely finished yet, but the content is there and we felt comfortable sharing it with Path of Exile players from our current audience.
This is a project that we have been working on for quite some time (so nothing to do with the recent Diablo announcements or lack thereof). We developed a CMS from the ground up, using our many years of experience with Icy Veins as a basis for the various features we required on the publishing side of the site. We also added things such as a proper item database or a dev tracker. These are things we can't have on Icy Veins, because the tech the site is running on would not permit it. Hopefully, one day we can run Icy Veins on our new tech and do all these things, if we feel like it.
As I was saying above, the site is not 100% ready, but it is very close in terms of features. We worked hard in the past two weeks to fix all major bugs, so that end users can have a smooth experience, and we have enough content to cover the currently most popular builds. So we are waiting for your feedback!

Currently you will find the following things on the site: guides and news for Path of Exile, an item database (still missing out a couple of base items), a dev tracker (Official Forums + Twitter + Reddit), and of course forums where people can discuss about that game.
Our guide offering is currently as follows:
Triple Herald Blade Vortex Elementalist Build Arc Mines Saboteur Build Guide Glacial Cascade Mines Saboteur Build Guide Ancestral Warchief Ascendant Build Guide Ascendant Hit Elemental Build Guide Aurabot Ascendant, 8 Auras Build Guide The Cleave Ascendant Build Guide Herald of Agony Occultist Build Guide Frostbolt/Glacial Cascade Totems Hierophant Build Guide Uber Labyrinth Farmer Juggernaut Build Guide Rain of Arrows Deadeye Build Guide Tornado Shot Deadeye Build Guide The Baron Zombies/Skeletons Necromancer Build Guide Toxic Rain Pathfinder Build Blade Flurry Gladiator Build Guide Spectral Throw Raider Build Guide Cyclone Slayer Build Guide We also have a beginner guide for fresh exiles.
With all that said, we're hoping to see you on that new website and are looking forward to your comments!
Please welcome our newest website on Path of Exile!
