Legion Beta: Class Trials and Character Copy Now Available

Recommended Posts

The latest Legion Beta build has brought Class Trials and the ability to copy your characters from live servers into the Beta.

Last night, a new build introduced Character Boost and Class Trials in the Beta. In Legion, you will be able to try out a class at level 100, before deciding if you want to boost it or not. There is an hourly limit on how many Class Trials can be created, while you cannot try Demon Hunters since you cannot use a boost on them. During the Class Trial, you go through a short tutorial of your basic skills and then you move on to the Broken Shore and Artifact introductory questline. Each class can try only one specialisation, while Druids can try two. These are:

  • Death Knight: Unholy
  • Druid: Feral (Cat) and Balance
  • Hunter: Beast Mastery
  • Mage: Frost
  • Monk: Windwalker
  • Paladin: Retribution
  • Priest: Discipline
  • Rogue: Assassination
  • Shaman: Elemental
  • Warlock: Affliction
  • Warrior: Arms

18:10 PDT- We have re-enabled Class Trials in the Beta. Please proceed with checking it out!

Character Boost and Class Trials Available for Testing

With the latest beta build, we’ve enabled the level 100 Boost and Class Trials experiences for Legion.

  • Boosting a character to level 100 will place you into a short starting experience before you join in the Broken Shore experience.
  • Class Trials will allow players to try various characters at level 100 as a part of a limited tutorial experience within the Broken Shore and allows players to play beyond the tutorial portion to experience the class through to acquiring their Artifact weapon. The short tutorial experience will focus on teaching many of the class’ core abilities. Players can apply a boost token at any time to keep the character they used during the Class Trial.

For both the Boost experience and Class Trials, players will start with a pre-defined specialization that can be changed at a later point in time. Please note that due to the Demon Hunter not being eligible for Boosting, it will not have a Class Trial associated with it.

For the beta test, we’ve adjusted the class trial restrictions so that players can use these characters for an extended duration.

Since last night, you can also copy your beloved characters from live servers into the Beta. What's the advantage of that? You will start with a significant gear advantage, while the character templates may have some trouble in the beginning. You will also have all your collectibles (mounts, pets, toys, transmogs, materials) and your professions maxed out, therefore you will be able to properly test features like the Wardrobe or legion professions. If I am not mistaken, your gold will also be transferred, which will make buying stuff like materials or new items and toys easier. Bear in mind that the Character Copy feature may be disabled in the future.

Blizzard LogoZorbix

Character Copy is currently enabled on the Beta realms. Once you login to the Beta realms, click the Copy Character button located under the "Template Character" button.

The characters from your retail account should show up here; selecting one of them and clicking "Copy" will copy over a version of that character to the Beta Environment. If your Character List doesn't copy, make sure you have the proper region select and click "Copy Account Data". Since this system requires gathering data from your live characters, it's possible that characters might not display if they have not been accessed for some time.

Over the course of testing it may be necessary to disable Character Copy with little to no warning; we'll try to provide updates but please be aware the system will not always be online.

Guild wars did it first!!!!!!

Actually really happy to see this being added, wish they had it in pandaland when they first introduced the boost. Specifically at that time, I was rather disappointed with the character I had boosted and ended up really wishing I had boosted a different one. The trial would have given me that insight.

Hey, why is demon hunter not there though? I might not want to have to do those agonizing 2 levels to hit 100 XD.

Given how much I now hate the DK starting zone, I feel like I might want to skip the DH zone too!

Well by now I've done the DH starting zone a couple times. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty glorious, but when demon hunters become available I'm not looking forward to doing it again. Plus, I'm in therapy for being an altaholic. So, doing in over an over will probably be a drag. I love the DK starting zone (totally not biased) but i'll admit, after my 12th DK it gets a bit painful. Those long starting areas are double edged swords, for new players it gives you a foothold into the game and makes you feel like you are part of the lore, however, for returning players and alt players it can be boring.

I will never make a Worgen or Goblin again ever!!!!

The goblin zone still gives me nightmares... Crazy how much time that thing takes, I refuse to do it. I mean, I wouldn't roll a goblin anyway, but this is just another reason :p

I hate goblins (they are short and ugly), but their starting zone is so entertaining. Riding around on the little cars was so fun!

Is that what you do on your spare time lol

Nope :) I've only played the Goblin starting zone once actually. But like I said, I found it really fun compared to most other starting zones. Certainly better than the grim, rainy starting zone of Worgens.

My favourite ones are Blood Elf and Undead. I will never forget how scared I was leveling my (then) Undead Mage in Tirisfal Glades! It was 8 years ago...

The random daily goblin life stuff got me, but the second half of the starting zone (lost isle?) was pretty good.

The worgen one already seems out of date to me, and it was just cataclysm...  Like when you level through Hellfire Peninsula...

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
