Legion Beta: Latest Blue Posts

Recommended Posts

ssZEH4j.png

A couple of new builds were released in the Legion Beta this week and the blues have been busy answering questions and providing useful information. We have selected the most important of these blue posts.

The latest Legion Beta Build introduced two new features, Class Trials and the Beta character copy, which we discussed in a different post. In this article, we will focus on new info from blue posts written this week. Let's begin!

Court of Stars and The Arcway were two new dungeons that used to require an attunement. Why the past tense? Well, players noticed that after completing the required reputation grind and questlines to enter these dungeons, they already heavily outgeared them. Blizzard has decided to make these two dungeons Mythic only. The quests related to them will become optional, while Order Hall campaign quests that sent you to these dungeons will be readjusted. You can read the whole discussion thread on this issue here. You can check Blainie's video and impressions from running The Arcway in the Alpha in this thread.

Now, when it comes to the loot of Legion Mythic dungeons, the details are still pending. Still, Watcher gave us a rough idea:

Blizzard LogoWatcher

The details of the loot progression are still pending, and are/were waiting on a bit of code support to handle the final implementation. Completing higher-level Mythic dungeons should gradually raise the base item level of the rewards from the end-of-dungeon chests, with a more significant effect on the weekly reward chest for highest tier cleared. (source)

Blood of SargerasBlood of Sargeras is a new BoP crafting regeant. It was quite rare, since you could only get it from gathering and doing world quests. Some new ways to get this item have now been added:

Blizzard LogoZugsworth

Hi friends - I just wanted to chime in that in the next beta build you should see more Blood of Sargeras dropping from non-tradeskill sources (dungeons, in particular). (source)

Blizzard LogoOrnyx

A bit more information here -

You will also see Blood of Sargeras from Disenchanting Rare and Epic items in a future beta build, as well as an increase in the cadence and quantity of Blood of Sargeras from Crafting World Quests in the Broken Isles.

ICYMI: Watcher discussed the idea of BoP crafting materials during yesterday's Developer Live Q&A (short summary of that here). Next week's Live Q&A covers professions specifically, so feel free to submit questions on this topic here.

Let's move on to specific class information. Frost Mages will see various changes in Legion, but some of these changes will be reverted. Frostfire Bolt has been removed and initially the new Brain Freeze would have a 10% chance to reset the cooldown of Frozen Orb. Players didn't like this change at all and thus Frozen Orb is now working as it always did: it's a 60-sec cooldown that grants Fingers of Frost (there was a bug in the Beta that didn't award the FoF charge, but it was fixed). It was also revealed that a new spell will be used to spend your Brain Freeze procs (essentially replacing Frostfire Bolt). Lastly, it was explained that the new spell Ray of Frost isn't intended to work with Ice Floes.

Blizzard LogoSigma

Thanks for all the feedback on Frozen Orb. There are some pretty significant changes coming next build that should address this (edit: as those of you watching the Q&A stream with Watcher are hearing about just this moment, as it turns out). In particular, Frozen Orb will return to the role that it had in Warlords: a 60-second cooldown that you use for AoE or for a burst of Fingers procs, not a spell prompted by a rotational proc. We are adding a new single-target spell to fill the rotational role of interacting with the Brain Freeze proc.

------

Note that the wording of Ice Floes was recently changed to specify "cast time less than 10 seconds", to clarify that it's not intended to work with Ray of Frost. The gameplay of Ray of Frost is that it's a ramping damage burst that rewards you for anticipating when you can remain still for 10 seconds (or at least, 8 or 9 out of the next 10 seconds). (source)

We will also be bringing Frozen Orb's Fingers of Frost chance up, and making it no longer speed back up after the first time it slows down. (source)

Another Mage question led to the revelation of useful info about DoTs and crowd-control abilities. Apparently, all crowd-control abilities that break from damage will clear damage over time effects when applied; this applies to all classes.

Blizzard LogoPhalanx

Actually, Polymorph should remove all damage over time effects when cast on targets in PvP. We've changed all crowd-control abilities that break from damage to clear damage over time effects when applied. (source)

People had concerns about how powerful Blood Death Knights and Holy Paladins felt in PvP. The first ones dealt too much damage, while the latter ones healed too much without trying. The team is toning down talents for both of these classes.

Blizzard LogoPhalanx

Much of the blood DK damage was coming from the Honor talent "Blood for Blood" which we've toned down in an upcoming hotfix, and the talent will no longer remove the rune cost from Heart Strike. The idea of the talent is to give Blood DK's an option to increase their damage at the expense of a survivability loss (most tank specs have an honor talent similar to this), it was just overtuned.

As for Holy Paladins, the honor talent "Avenging Light" was probably too good now that Holy Light heals for so much. We've toned that one down too, which should be live now.

Thanks for the feedback!

Lastly, Mythic Nighthold raid testing is scheduled for tomorrow night. You can find all the details here.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
