So I've played Warlock for as long as i can possibly remember... down to 7 year old me way back in vanilla... But all warlock specs right now seem like they're in the worst condition they've ever been in. Destro is ridiculously boring and doesn't feel rewarding to play at all. Demonology is gcd locked in a bad way and also requires offgame addons to play efficiently/competitively at all in raiding... and Affliction is literally just waiting around and occasionally refreshing dots. I haven't had access to the beta at all, but it seems like it doesn't get much better at all with artifacts and legendaries. I really would like to keep playing my main but it just feels extremely lackluster. Anyone else have any input on where this class is going/how fun it is going to be in legion?

Edit: I know I should probably wait until legion to decide how I feel about demonology... because the rotation right now is nothing short of complete cancer and pretty much ruins the enjoyability of the spec altogether. But aoe is still an issue.

Hopefully some of these issues are addressed in the future, but unfortunately I don't see much changing in the near future ;(

I have a question about chaos bolt usage. Shouldn't you wait until you have 5 shards to use it every time so you can use Chaos bolt on the Eradicated target more often? If I always spam Chaos Bolt, the debuff drops faster than I get another 2 shards.

You want to maintain Eradication as much as possible. If you get high on shards you want to pace them a few seconds apart to keep the buff rolling as much as possible to also empower Immolate.

Hey been using this guide since it came out and wanted to thank you for doing the work. But I have a question for you that me and a friend have been discussing

So the debate we've been having is: Is it worth it to double cast Immolate at the start/every full refresh to get an extra 6 seconds on immolate and doing an roaring blaze immolate rotation of 3/2/3. Where you can cast a 3rd conflag when immolate has 14~ seconds left. Then just as the first immolate runs out you cast immolate to land right as the previous one fades. Double casting it again, conflag, and you cast the 2nd conflag at the 18s~ remaining mark on the new immolate.

When I test each rotation out on training dummys, the pandemic immolate with 3/2/3 rotation does more damage(Using only Immolate/Conglag/Incinerate/Chaos Bolt) But my friend feels that the 2nd immolate cast is a damage loss because that extra 6s will be less damage than an incinerate and having a constant 2 conflag immolate up vs a small partial 1 conflag immolate.

I was wondering if you could weigh in on whether a double cast pandemic immolate is worth it or not to achieve a 3 conflag immolate for 14 or so seconds every odd immolate. I understand this may be better left to running a 5m patchwerk sim. But I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask the question here. Thanks in advance!

Don't double cast after the roaring blaze nerf. Pre-nerf it was very close either way depending on criticals.

Why hasn't the guide been updated for the Roaring Blaze change? For me, now it shows that it gives 25% instead of 60%.

He's finishing up new guides for Legion as we speak ? I'm guessing they'll be out launch day or thereabouts. We're all looking forward to them ?

I was doing some basic testing on a testing dummy trying both roaring blaze and Backdraft, and I feel like I'm consistently getting around 3k more DPS from Backdraft. I don't know if this is a side effect of me not having the best gear, I can give stats if that will help. I just decided to test it since Roaring Blaze was nerfed. Just wondering if anyone else has any input on where the tier 1 talents now sit.

I was thinking the same thing with the nerf. It would also allow you to not worry about tying your conflags to immolate. I have noticed with not getting a shard on the initial cast of it I am getting less shards. Combine that with the fact that you cant store more than 2 for a boss anymore and it gets really frustrating.

Backdraft is better. Haven't updated this guide for a little while as this is the "pre-patch" version, but the "Legion" version is going live in a few hours which is fully updated for the Artifact & recent hotfixes.

Furty,

Thanks so much for the updated guide. It is head and shoulders above anything else I've seen so far.  I noticed a couple small issues to clean up (e.g. nerfed RB is now 25%, not 60, if I recall correctly; some leftover text from prior version of the guide no longer applies), but I'm sure you'll revisit it when your able.  All in all, very thorough, organized, and well-put-together. Thanks for getting this out prior to launch. -M.

I was reading in the battle net forums that backdrafts duration may be reduced by higher levels of haste(gear) meaning its duration is reduced to 3 seconds vs 5 seconds. Even with this gimmick you believe BD is still better than RB? http://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20748646030

Does the rotation change much now that we're taking Backdraft instead of Roaring? I figure we probably still want to open with Immolate into 2x Conflag, then rotation as usual from there? Seems like the only big change is that we can Conflag on cooldown rather than hold it if Immolate is expiring soon. Just wanted to check and make sure, though.

Furty, if it comes down to a choice between the two, my understanding is that I should prioritize using chaos bolt to maximize Eradication uptime, rather than banking and spending during trinket procs, all things being equal. In other words, I should treat the new Eradication like the old Shadowflame dot from Hand of Gul'dan in MoP and WoD (ignoring special situations like a priority add).

I realize we may see tuning and trinkets in the future that could change this (Immerseus says hi). Just wanted to confirm that inference, and ask that you let us know in future guides if any trinkets change the priority. Thanks. -M.

That's correct, but if there's a predictable influx of damage increases (e.g. ICD, Soul Harvest) then you should prepare Shards in advance.

Wouldn't worry about it. Best to use on CB wherever possible but not a massive increase/decrease.

First of all, thank you for a great guide, always a good read.

I might be missing something obvious (it's in fact quite likley that I do) but on the stat weights it says intellect is 1 and haste 1.24 and yet intellect is ranked ahead of haste and we're supposed to priorotize the 200 intellect gem over the 250 haste one. What's the reason for this?

Thanks for the positive feedback! There was actually no good reason for that. It was simply a mistake, which is now fixed :)

Had a question regarding eradication and the usage of dimensional rift. In your guide you say to use 1 charge before hitting a chaos bolt. Does dimensional rift not benefit from the eradication increase in damage? And only one charge on pull? Wouldn't it be better to drop all 3 charges on pull? The. Pool 2 for movement and such? Chances are I don't know what I'm talking about but it would be nice to have that clarified. Good guide. Thanks.

I had some questions regarding rotation. I can't discern a proper rotation out of a spell priority list alone. Can anyone break it down for me in a way that would make sense chronologically. I can understand if the situation would shift priorities based on a pending cooldown but what to cast in a continual rotation is completely lost on me. I can not figure out if I am suppose to use all of my chaos bolts as I get them or if I wait and use them to apply eradication and spam incinerate during eradication.... you get my point I am completely lost here.

I would like to know why service is better option now with artifact weapon talent having us actually cast infernals and a 50 damage buff with demonic power? Doom guard still not cranking out comparable damage

So how will the weapon change this the talents for demonic power and the infernal have to bigger dmg increase ( 3 min doomguard) so how would servitude out weigh having the extra damage cool down? Plus the damage buff from that talent to sacrifice seems to be a stright damage buff. Am I confused? I played affliction a lot so now it's broken and I am swapping to destro Also explain roaring blaze vs backdraft I'm a bit confused as to what the benefits vs negatives are

If possible the eradication buff is a nice bonus. There's no rush to drop all three on the opener as there isn't a legendary ring or trinkets anymore making the timing more of a personal choice.

Some of it is explained in the guide but a large part of the subtlety as, as you noted, contextual. In such situations it just comes down to thinking with your head, i.e. if you need more burst then use everything at once but for more sustain try and maintain a high Eradication uptime.

It has always been the best option.

If the stat scaling is:

Haste: 1.24

Intellect: 1.00

Why should i use a +200int socket instead of all +250 haste ones?

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
