First time magic user

I am wanting to start a mage in wow legion. Is there a particular race that would make a better mage than the others. If so which race and which mage would be best for the best dps.

As a troll you've got your berzerk which is a small "bloodlust"-cooldown. If you want to play arcane gnome whould be interesting, cause you've got 5% more mana. Pandaren got doubled bufffood.

So if you just want to choose to the bonus choose troll as horde player and gnome as alliance.

Racials don't really matter any more, unless you are going for world firsts. Still if you want an answer for all specs, on average, the best are Dwarf, Troll, Orc and Draenei.

Isn't the best race for Mage whoever can throw their ball of fire the hardest? 

For real though, play what you want. I guarantee it's better to enjoy your race rather than roll something you HATE and do an extra 2k DPS.

Racials don't matter much right now, the difference between optimal race and the worse race are minimum. It's not worth it. 

 

Play the one you love. And if you can't decide between two or 3 then check Racials if you wish. 

I believe for pve the pandaren racial is the best (double food buff). 

In the alliance I think draenei are very good for pve as you gain intellect. Horde I guess troll is super powerful. 

However I will always play my badass gnome with huge pone y tails! Its a blast of fire!   :p

As I said, this isn't for mage, but it shows that you essentially see a 1% or so difference between the max and minimum of the racials.
