3 Top Guilds Talk Leveling, Legendaries and Split Mythics

Recommended Posts

Exorsus, Limit and Method talk about the first part of the Emerald Nightmare preparation.

Over at Method.gg, the new home of the raid progress race coverage, yours truly interviewed three of the top guilds (Exorsus, Limit and Method) about the start of Legion and what exactly that looks like for the extremely hardcore, as they get ready for the Emerald Nightmare. The main topic of discussion was legendary items and how they (or a lack of them) will impact the race, if one guild gets very lucky or unlucky in their drops, so here are a few snippets, or you can read the full thing over at Method's site.

Split Mythic dungeon runs - better or worse than split raids?

bksPbeI.jpg Exorsus

Way worse. 4 weeks of nightmare with world quests, dungeons and legendary grinding on all of their characters is the worst thing i can imagine for my raiders.

v2CBeLE.jpg

Personally, if I had been doing split mythic dungeon runs for the past 3 expansions then I would find them pretty lame in comparison to split raids. Since that’s not actually the case, I find split dungeons a nice change of pace from previous expansions. I know there are people in my own guild that disagree and enjoy split raids rather than split dungeons.

Definitely worse, because it makes the whole thing less flexible and if you don't have a roster count that is divisible by 5 (so usually 25) you have left over people without a set group, requiring you to rotate people etc.. Another reason why I don't like them is that they are VERY rewarding, which forces us to be very good and effective when doing these dungeons. It's almost like your dungeon tactics matter more for the raid than your raid tactics, since that gear will help you in the raids later.
Generally I think mythic+ is a great idea but I don’t like the way it is being introduced. I think it would be better if they would open them sequentially so that first mythic+ dungeons are released (gated at a certain keystone level) and a month later the raid could get released.

Watcher and the design team seem to have changed their minds and are going to allow legendaries into Mythic raids. How important will it be for each player to have that one specific legendary? Do you think a guild getting particularly lucky with them could give them a significant advantage?

bksPbeI.jpg Exorsus

Well, if some guild would be lucky enough to get BiS legendaries on some core players it could lead to quite a huge impact. However, the chances for such a scenario are low. From what I’ve seen, some legendaries lead to a ~10-14% dps increase, which is too good. And don't forget that the item itself has an 895 ilvl, meaning it’s almost twice the stats for this slot.

v2CBeLE.jpg

The decision by the design team to allow legendaries in mythic raids was something that was lamented by a large amount of the playerbase. Personally, I am skeptical as to how much of an effect this will have in the overall race. As a shadow priest, there are at least 3 legendaries that, if I were to obtain one of them, would provide me little to no benefit outside of the stats they give by virtue of being an item level 895 piece. This is the case for most people, so based on that factor as well as keeping the drop rate in mind, I feel like they will not provide a significant advantage unless a guild gets obscenely lucky. Our guild will generally take the best players into the raid, whether they have the right legendary or not.

p5GQ62N.jpg Method

First of all, I must say that even though it is a nice feature overall to have legendaries like this in the game, I think it is quite silly to have them released from day 1. I would have rather seen these unlocked together with the 7.1 Karazhan patch for example. Now, in terms of how important they are, I’ll be honest I don’t know how strong each legendary is for each spec, but I have heard people say that if they get this 1 specific legendary, it will be an insane dps increase. For hunters specifically there are no crazy legendaries. They are obviously nice to have both for the effect and the ilvl of the item itself, of course. In general though I think that the statement Ion made about it being the same as having some player get a warforged trinket is not true. Legendaries will be way more impactful to the raid’s performance than trinkets will be.

It's funny how they (pro players) started saying good things about Mists of Pandaria before its release and the expansion itself turned out to be the worst ever, a disaster.

And now they are criticizing Legion...  Should we expect an even worse scenario here? or is it just negative propaganda :D GoldenKappa

I think we as players have been burned so many times now by blizzards expansions since Lich King, that most of us are now more cautious about upcoming content. So far I see Legion as a success. But like Garrosh said to Gul'dan in the Draenor Intro: "Times change."

Do you mean Warlords of Draenor?

I loved MoP :( Probably was one of my favourite expansions tbh, excluding the pre-WoD SoO farming

I have to agree. The notion at the end of WoD was "now people finally appreciate Pandaria". Granted everyone will have their own opinion. That being said, I loved pre WoD farming, the frogpocalypse was one of my favorite events!!!!

I LOVED THE FROG FARM. It was so incredibly relaxing, just like farming bounties in Diablo. Some music, some friends, relax and commit genocide.

See, for me MoP was more of a side-quest in the grand scheme of WoW.  There were ties in obviously, but the final boss was, in essence, the Sha, not even really Garrosh.

Even with the Heart of the Old God, it just felt... like something they dreamed up to fill space.

WoD was literally a alternate universe, but at least it ended tying directly into WoW history.

I just can't get into MoP, although it was a frickin gorgeous expansion.

I thought the lore was amazingly well done considering it was all newly thought up. Absolutely loved it

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
