demonardvark 556 Report post Posted September 28, 2016 optimizing gear is an ugly mistress, the first atypical blanket statement is, if its an ilvl increase equip it. but we must look at stats. you are getting a pretty nice increase in strength and attack power, crit is being relatively untouched. The only stat that is getting nerfed if you will is your haste, a fairly big 4% drop. Now 20% haste is considered the soft cap however at 16% you are still doing very good. So, i'd play on a target dummy, if the haste drops feels jarring you may not want to switch, however, it looks in general that the gear increase and the strength increase would infact be quite worth it because soul reaper gives so much haste and your haste loss isn't traumatically bad and the strength increase should give you a nice dps increase. so, i say, go for it :D
Valks 2,375 Report post Posted September 30, 2016 Just further to what demon said - Item level increase is great, but beware of using that statement to apply to rings/necks. Without strength on them anymore, secondaries are super important. For example, you might find yourself using an 830 ring over an 860 purely because of secondaries. Just something to keep in mind!

Just something to keep in mind! correct, its the same deal sort of with trinkets too, ilvl increase doesn't make it necessarily better, heck for all of hfc dks favored a trinket from the previous tier, however, on items that have base strength the strength increase usually usually is beneficial over secondaries. So again ask mr robot or posting here is always good if you are confused. Even the worse case scenario you can go smack a target dummy for awhile with one piece and then switch to another and compare
Drtain 74 Report post Posted October 1, 2016 Long story short here you don't lose hardly anything for crit, and gain lots of strength making it worth while. (mastery also isn't as bad as it seems it's actually a relatively good stat over all for the current content fights where bursting sores is used often and like doubly effective with mastery)
demonardvark 556 Report post Posted October 3, 2016 yeah the issue with mastery is both diminishing returns and a not super noticeable pay off. simply go play with defile and you'll see a 10% increase in mastery isn't a huge dps gain, but it is a dps gain, each ability only doing say 4k more damage adds up over time. so with castigator there is a frenzy for crit right now, but that does hit a point of no return, from there mastery is good investment point.
