Just wondering, but it says to go for the Black Ice (Golden Artifact trait) first, but when and where do you use Ebonbolt? It's not in the normal "rotation" nor in the burst. Seems like the only time you actually cast Ebonbolt is if you're locked out of frost and still need to dps, or if you're locked out of both arcane and frost..

But I'm just wondering, would it be better to just go straight to Chilled to the Core, and then go back and get Ebonbolt? It is just 1 trait, so I guess slightly weird to skip it, but if you aren't going to get much use of it; that 1 trait could save you a few thousand AP.

Just wondering if saving that few thousand AP is worth it to get Chilled to the Core slightly quicker.

It's not possible to skip Ebonbolt - without it, the artifact won't activate.

I couldn't figure out how to edit my other comment, but I meant, "...and then go back and get BLACK ICE? It is just 1 trait..."

Ah, then yeah, I agree. It would be better. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

You guys should probably update this Guide. Quite a bit has changed with the 7.1.5 and smaller hotfixes after.

High rated frost mages (which aren't that many anymore) tend to run the following:
This spec revolves around the use of Frozen Orb together with Concentrated Coolness and Ice Nova as well as Comet Storm to get as much instant cast burst as possible. You basically put Frozen Orb on your kill target to get charges and utilize the mentioned abilities to build up pressure. Outside of your burst you want to cast Blizzard as much and on as many targets as possible to get your Frozen Orb back faster. However watch out when and where you cast your Blizzard so that you can still Sheep the CC target.

15
Lonely Winter

  • More burst
  • (pet passively dies against a lot of comps)

30
Shimmer

  • As stated in current guide

45
Incanter's Flow

  • As stated in current guide

60
Ice Nova

  • Go to talent
  • (according to Xaryu [Multi Rank 1 Gladiator on US] Splitting Ice can be useful for constant cleave damage)

75
Comp dependent

90
Arctic Gale

  • Like this guide states Unstable Magic as well as Frost Bomb will break your CC
  • Not completely useless anymore since Blizzard is part of your rotation now to reduce the remaining cooldown of Frozen Orb

Unstable Magic

  • Again, a gamble to take since it breaks CC

100
Comet Storm

  • With the buffs to Ice Lance and the nerf to Ice Floes (it being a talent choice), the go to spec is based around Ice Lance / Frozen Orb and not Glacial Spike anymore

Honor Talents:

1st Row
Comp / race dependent (sometimes personal choice)

2nd Row
Mind Quickness

  • Other talents are pretty much useless

3rd Row
Prismatic Cloak

  • Against comps that have magic kicks (i.e. Wind Shear, Spell Lock, etc.) Prismatic Cloak far outclasses Burning Determination as it basically makes your casts uninterruptible
  • You can immune CC like Cyclone, Hex, etc.
  • You can immune damage (if needed)

Burning Determination

  • Against melee comps without magic counters (or few magic CC) Burning Determination is better than Prismatic Cloak

4th Row
Temporal Shield

  • Great utility, standard choice

Dampened Magic

  • Very strong and go to talent against dot heavy comps

5th Row
Frost Bite

  • Extremely useful against melee cleaves
  • Chilled to the bone is useless and Deep Shatter defeats the purpose of the whole spec

6th Row
Concentrated Coolness

  • The talent that brings this spec together and makes it work
  • Does a lot of damage on its own and generates Finger of Frost Charges which are, next to your Frozen Orb, your main burst damage

This is by no means 100% accurate, much less an actual guide. However these are the talent choices run by the highest rated Frost Mages.

If you find any wrong information feel free to make remarks.

For sure. I've put in a note for it to be updated, so hopefully we'll get that done in the very near future! I'm sorry for the wait, but you have some great suggestions for sure. Thanks!

What about stats?

The guide will be updated to reflect this once it gets a BfA overhaul, but I would say your best bet is shatter cap + Mastery if going Glacial, for big burst, or Haste if you want good CC output + constant damage.

Your guide is good if u playing on 1k raiting, overall guide is disgusting. 1-st of all u need to play with Ebonbolt talent BECAUSE it gives another window for ur burst and u can rotate ur dmg spells better with it. Last one is total joke, u telling to take talent wich emproves Icy Veins WICH IS DISPELLABLE. Try to think why this is bad. As i said before ur guilde for 1k players, maybe less with ur build.

I think it would benefit you greatly if you actually read the guide.

First of all, Ebonbolt sucks at the moment. Pre-BfA patch, when you got interrupted, you could bypass that lockout by casting Ebonbolt. It now counts as a lockable spell and gets locked as soon as you get Frost kicked, even thought it was a Shadowfrost spell previously. There's no reason to take it over FT. A tiny window of burst that can easily be shutdown (and it barely gives much burst, doing similar damage to a DS FB) vs. higher constant pressure? Easy choice.

As for the dispels, this is literally written in the guide:

Quote

If you are playing against a team with multiple  Purge or  Spellsteal effects,  Ray of Frost is the best choice in this tier. This has a relatively long cooldown, but can be effective versus these types of teams. You can also use it against teams with melee on it. This will prevent them from kiting your damage or help you from kiting theirs.

Thanks for your comment.

Im confused. Why do we begin our burst rotation with icy veins? Icy veins only increases haste. This isn’t helpful if we are about to spam a whole bunch of instant casts? Wouldn’t it be better to spam the instant casts and THEN cast icy veins before we spam frostbolt?

It would also decrease the GCD, allowing you to cast more instants i believe

This is correct, haste reduces the GCD. But it will also make Frozen Orb tick faster if i'm not mistaken, which will cause it to proc more fingers of frost charges.

Both users above are correct, using IV is pretty important for increasing the instant burst.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
