Krasarang Wilds: Storyline, Screenshots, Quests, and More

Recommended Posts

Spoiler disclaimer: this article contains many spoilers.

The Krasarang Wilds is a level 86-88 zone located east of Jade Forest and south of the Valley of the Four Winds.

The entire zone used to be under Mogu control, many thousands of years ago, when their empire ruled over Pandaria. The Krasarang Wilds have been the main battlefield of a war that the Mogu lost against the Saurok (a race of lizard-like humanoids that the Mogu had created). The various Mogu ruins scattered throughout the zone are a testament to their defeat.

Storyline

The awakening of the Sha on Pandaria has lead the Sha of Despair to break free from the control of the Red Crane (the August Celestial who watches over the Krasarang Wilds). As a consequence, you will travel through the area to help contain the manifestations of the Sha in Zhu's Watch and the Temple of the Red Crane.

Additionally, you will help scouting parties of your faction defend themselves against the Mogu who have decided to return to Pandaria and reclaim their former cities.

Towards the end of the quest lines, you will learn about the upcoming Mantid invasion in the Valley of the Four Winds and will be asked to warn Stoneplow.

Screenshots

As we were progressing through the zone, we took a number of screenshots. You will find the best ones below.

Quests

The two main quest lines in the Krasarang Wilds are respectively started by the two following quests: Ken-Ken and Kang Bramblestaff, which are obtained early on when questing in the Valley of the Four Winds.

Ken-Ken Quest Line

Ken-Ken's quest line first takes you to Zhu's Watch and will progressively cause you to travel to the western side of the Krasarang Wilds. At times, you will be doing parts of Ken-Ken's quest line together with parts of Kang Bramblestaff's quest line. Note that we call the quest line Ken-Ken, but Ken-Ken is only present during the part that takes place in Zhu's Watch.

Kang Bramblestaff's Alliance Quest Line

Kang Bramblestaff will take Alliance players to the two settlements of their faction in the Krasarang Wilds: The Incursion and the Sentinel Basecamp.

Kang Bramblestaff's Horde Quest Line

Kang Bramblestaff will take Horde players to the two settlements of their faction in the Krasarang Wilds: Thunder Cleft and Dawnchaser Retreat.

Optional: Daggle Bombstrider from the Nesingwary Safari

Daggle Bombstrider, next to the Krasari Ruins, will offer you a few hunting quests. We advise you to do them at the same time as the quests in The Incursion (Alliance) or Thunder Cleft (Horde).

Optional: Fallsong Village

Located south-east of the Sentinel Basecamp, Fallsong Village is a small Jinyu settlement that is currently under attack by Saurok. Two quests will be offered to you there: Thieving Raiders and Raid Leader Slovan.

Optional: Marista

Marista is a small fisherman village located on the eastern side of the Nayeli Lagoon. You can decide to defend the fishermen against a sudden invasion of crocolisk by doing the following quest line:

More

In Marista, Brewmaster Bo will let you queue for the Big Beach Brew Bash scenario at level 90.

Anglers Wharf is a fishing center where you will find Nat Pagle, the Anglers' Quartermaster, and daily quest givers.

Cradle of Chi-Ji is an island south-west of the Temple of the Red Crane. It is the birthplace of Chi-Ji, the Red Crane and will serve as a daily quest hub at level 90.

During the Mists of Pandaria press tour, it was announced that Krasarang Cove would serve as a battlefield between the Alliance and the Horde in Patch 5.1.0.

Since this is the same level as Valley of the Four wind, I guess you have to choose one at level 86, after the Jade Forest? Which one would you pick based on looks, fun, questing experience?

Just to let you know you can only read the first line of text under each screen shot so there is a couple that cut off mid sentance!

I hope you can tame those cute little waterskaters...

Looks quite good, it is nice to have more than one area for a level because it gives you a choice for alts!

I noticed the same thing. It appears sometimes and it's imgur's fault, they're the ones providing the tools for displaying the album :P

Well, you don't really have a choice. The last event of Valley of the Four Wind requires you to finish the quest lines in Krasarang Wilds. Basically, you need to finish most of the quest lines in both zones in order to get the quests for Kun-Lai Summit.

So you need to complete (most of) both zones in order to continue to the next one? Wouldn't that bring you 'too high' seeing that the next zone is lvl 87-89 and there's then 2 zones for level 89-90.

I'm asking because the main reason why I hate Outland right now is the fact that you skip half the zones and leave the other ones when you're only halfway through, just because leveling is so fast. Nowadays I just skip outland by grinding all the dungeons from level 60 to 68. (The Outland dungeons are really good BTW)

It kind of does, I mean I'm half-way through Kun-Lai Summit (not even) and I'm at 13M/17M exp through level 88. Though, you need to take into account that I've done all the optional quest lines in Jade Forest, Valley of the Four Winds, and Krasarang Wilds. I'm certain they're worth about 10M exp or more.

Not sure if I'm keen on fully finishing zones while I'm levelling. I always go back for Loremaster and achieves afterwards but generally move on to the new zones ASAP for better loot etc.

Do you feel the quests where enjoyable enough until the end Damien? Some zones you start to feel the lag after a while and you want to move zone!

Speaking about exp, I thought that 80-85 was insane, jumped from 1 million to 10 million exp in just a few levels. What are the exp caps now? 12-14-17...?

I'll also get a nice boost, completing 25 dailies the day before the expansion, and hand them in the minute the servers go live. Then hide in a corner and grind dungeons because I would get killed and scream like a little girl (and cryPosted Image ) in the questing areas.

I'll be going for VotFW purely because Krasarang Wilds looks like it will have a lot of swimming involved, and swimming is annoying.

There's actually very little swimming in the Krasarang Wilds. I think there's just one quest that requires you to go kill some fish. Then, one of the optional quest lines features two quests where you need to swim for a bit.

Regarding the Exp. caps, I don't remember level 85 and 86, but 87 to 88 was 14M, 88 to 89 was 17M and 89 to 90 is 21M.

Keep in mind that the experience rewards from quests have also been increased. I don't think it takes significantly longer than it did it in Cataclysm or Wrath of the Lich King. It's not fast, either, though.

No no ofc its all relative in terms of experience per quest etc, its more the whole 1-90 in one go (even when they nerf the Cata exp required like they did for Outland and Northrend etc).

For levelling, I think I will do the same as I did for Cataclysm; I will go through every single quest while levelling for the sheer experience. All of them. Just because I can! I really look forward to this, you know! :D

I'm a bit worried that the xp requirement isn't increased in that area to ensure you don't outlevel the areas! =[

You will see that the questing experience is a lot better than in Cataclysm. The background story is pretty amazing and you get the feeling that you're exploring something really new.

Aye I won't be leveling a monk straight away as I really can't hack a 1-90... Will do my main, one of my alts, gear them up then eventually get the other alts up THEN consider a panda... when I am bored of everything else!

Update: I need to clarify a small error in just the data labels for crit/mastery, when I was making my graphs I used the same series labels for Experiment 1 in all graphs. Obviously as you increase +haste rating and keeping crit intervals constant, mastery is reduced. Don't be alarmed, the crit rating and haste is constant, but you're not expected to reach 24k mastery in an 18.9k haste scenario! Your real target is 18969 haste, 15598 mastery, 1500 crit - I'll update those data labels soon.

Disclaimer: The data you see before you is not based off actual gear profiles, instead it uses logic based off crit gain intervals with the purpose of spotting a trend. The following assumptions were made:
Stat budget of an item level 581.80 mage with item level 580 Purified Bindings of Immerseus. Yu'lon, Stormlash, and other sources of damage excluded from the analysis would not be significant enough to skew the data. This assumes 100% uptimes and all raid buffs. AMR indicates 62.47% haste is 18960, though on Lhivera's TC-Lite, with raid buffs included, I could not get the next LB breakpoint to occur until 18969 haste (62.5%) - since it's only 9 rating, I'm erring on the side of caution until I get clarification on this.  Update: I had it checked and rechecked and it's most certainly 18960, Lhivera will be updating his stuff.
Stay tuned to an update to my guide with this new information.

      Frost Mage 5.4 - Explained
Up until this point, those of us who try to take a stab at theorycrafting frost mage have fallen into the same traps. We backward engineer parses to try to explain results. Data has been obscured, often with too much information or influence from fights themselves. I could create a "solution" such as 14242 haste->mastery to explain successful parses, but I couldn't explain why I perceived that to be the best method.

We advanced further into the "multiple builds" theory - which suggested that there was a choice among mastery, mixture, and haste builds, each with their own advantages or disadvantages.

DPET numbers were used to help explain the differences-- and the data was not surprising. We know that the way our stats work together is like a system of checks and balances-- no one stat scales each spell, and some scale each other or inhibit each other. This interaction is not too difficult to map.

In some prior posts, I explained the value of crit to a frost mage, but I still had some lingering doubts as to whether it would exceed the amplification of stat ratings from PBoI. Turns out it does not.

So I wanted to find some new logic-- a new angle to analyze the problem. Simulations are a mindset that have to be put on the back burner until we first look at how our actual stats are impacted by Purified Bindings and what that means for average damage, DPET, and which stats add the most DPET to all of our spells.

I started by setting up a series of 6 experiments, using haste as a control for each setup. Within the 6 experiments there would be a series of up to 12 combinations of crit/mastery, starting crit rating at 1500 and increasing it in intervals thereof. PBoI's amplification was used to calculate how much rating that left over for mastery. Don't worry, it's unlikely you'll get to the ideal number of 18969 haste / 1500 crit / 15000 mastery-- that might not even be possible, but the goal is to get as close to there as possible while preserving the LB/NT breakpoint.

For each of the 6 experiments I began with the raw, unaffected-by-PBoI average damage (crit included) and then created a formula to reverse-engineer the crit rating, apply the amplified bonus, and add it back in to the average damage. This creates a clean, verified value that we can use to create DPET tables:

Then it just takes some cast times to find out DPET!

Now at this stage of the analysis we can look at how crit/mastery relate to haste by pinning each of the 6 experiments against each other. Remember, we are not adding up the DPETs here, or doing any simulations. The only logic here is that changing stats influences DPET, resulting in a very easy-to-read trend analysis. Green = Good; Red = Bad:

From there it is simply a matter of looking at the sum of the gains on a percentage basis. This means ET%s don't matter, simulations don't matter. The % gain from one stat combination versus another stat combination. These DPET calculations could be extrapolated into a simulation, but they don't need to. I call this experiment Differentials By Spell:

As you see above, the impact the change in build has on Frostbolt + Icicle is relatively small, but becomes significant at the highest haste breakpoint.

Brain Freeze comes out to be the biggest loser as haste values increase and is the outlier for shatter cap as well. However keep in mind this doesn't take into consideration the increased proc rate that comes with haste!

Ice Lance DPET levels out as one would expect, at 50% haste. Though this does not take into consideration additional FoF procs from having a higher amount of haste!

Water Elemental does something funny: he loves haste! His stats fluctuate with ours, and he takes a tiny advantage by being in our ideal stat ratio of 18969h>mastery

That Living Bomb breakpoint is huge and ultimately is what decides our ideal stat ratio. However, crit's benefit does not do enough to give crit a lead over mastery in the overvall view. (ps: no idea why one of those cells is white)

Frozen Orb stops gaining DPET past the GCD. Nothing to see here.

Now remember, I'm not simply adding DPET values here, that would be a horribly inaccurate representation of data. The goal isn't a simulation, and the conclusion is startlingly clear because the ignored factors (such as procs) would give haste an even larger advantage, but it's just not needed to prove the stat scaling. This is an aggregate of the % of gain you receive in various stat builds, resulting in higher DPET across the board, influenced by Purified Bindings of Immerseus.

The purpose of this analysis is a demonstration of what stats mean to your spells. It is still a true statement (and an important takeaway) to note that these results will fluctuate depending on the encounter scenario-- on spoils for example, haste at any level conquers mastery, while the reverse is true on Iron Juggernaut. Always pay mind to that fluctuation and note that it is reasonable to set up your frost mage in any way, this is simply the best explanation for how to gear, gem, and reforge from now until 6.0.

      I'm considering frost mage solved

tldr; 18960 Haste > Mastery & minimize crit is the answer

Post your favourite overall addon, and your favourite rogue-specific addon!

My favourite overall addon is TellMeWhen: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info10855-TellMeWhen.html

It's a modernized power aura addon that takes all of the tedious aspects of older addons and makes them simpler. Many aura features are automatic or able to be switched with simple sliders and checkboxes. Sizing and positioning can be done with dragging or anchored coordinates.

My favourite rogue-specific addon is Bandit's Guile Helper: http://wow.curseforge.com/addons/bandits-guile-helper/

A resizable movable icon that tells you everything you need to know about your Bandit's Guile ability. It tells you what stage of the buff you are at, how many stacks you are at, and how many seconds you have left once you reach Deep Insight. It is colour coded and very intuitive, and best of all it requires no setup.
