Who Will Be Legion's End Boss?

Recommended Posts

tit.jpg

In Patch 7.3, we're going to Argus and Alleria with Turalyon are likely making an appearance there. Many questions remain unsanwered. What happens after we close the Tomb? Who's Legion's end boss?

Patch 7.3

  • In Patch 7.3, we'll be going to Argus. What happens after closing the Tomb of Sargeras (Patch 7.2) remains unknown for now
  • Turalyon and Alleria are likely going to make an appearance on Argus

Dispelling the Rumors

  • Many predicted we'll be facing a weakened version of Sargeras a.k.a the Fallen Avatar as Legion's end boss
  • The rumor isn't true as the Fallen Avatar is Tomb's penultimate encounter

Legion's End Boss?

In Warlords of Draenor, players expected Grommash or Gul'dan to be the final boss, but Blizzard surprised us with Archimonde. Let's assume Legion is getting the same treatment with an unexpected villain. Here are some interesting theories behind the main villain of Legion.

Sargeras

  • It makes total sense to go to Argus and strike at Legion's very heart as demons are vulnerable there
  • It doesn't make sense lore-wise, how a group of 20 mortals would be able to defeat the demonic titan and creator of the Burning Legion who can crush and destroy planets
  • The theme of fel spreads over two expansions now and it's time to stop the Burning Legion once and for all and prepare for a different expansion, themed around Old Gods or Void Lords

Illidan

  • Legion's Illidan's redemption story and we know how Blizzard loves setbacks

Jaina

  • All she ever wanted was to study, but after Anduin announced the Alliance would join forces with the Horde to stop the Legion, she went furious
  • Once Khadgar announced that Horde will be allowed in Dalaran, she left the Kirin Tor
    • Since the destruction of Theramore by Garrosh, it went down the hill with Jaina in terms of sanity
  • What is she doing now? What if she's hanging out with Dreadlords in some castle sipping broodling tea?

N'Zoth

  • Some speculate that after closing the Tomb, we'll free an Old Gold, likely N'zoth, who could end up being Legion's end boss wrapping up nicely the theme of a future expansion
  • Every other WoW expansion deals with an Old God
    • Vanilla > C'thun, Wrath > Yogg'Saron, Mists of Pandaria > Y'shaarj, Legion > ???
    • This argument can be tricky though, as Cataclysm and especially Dragon Soul encounters (Yor'sahj the Unsleeping, Warlord Zon'ozz, Deathwing) explore the theme.
  • The Shadow Priest Artifact Xal'atath, Blade of the Black EmpireXal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire has some interesting whispers:
    • "To see Yogg-Saron's nightmare in full bloom fills me with jealousy... and some pride."
    • "The Legion burrows deep here. If they burrow deeper, they may not like what they find."
    • "The God of the Deep writhes in his prison, breaking free ever so slowly. You should hurry and defeat the fallen titan... there are greater battles yet to fight."
      • May indicate that we need to kill Sargeras at the end of Legion and then face N'zoth in a future expansion.

Who do you think is the main villain of Legion?

Maybe the encounter will have some sort of gimmick so it doesn't appear that it is just a group of mortals defeated the almighty Sargeras. My guess is Illidan, Maiev and Khadgar leading a massive army to attack the Titan, with the group of players being part of it, and using the Pillars and Light's Hope as part of the fight mechanics.

If Sargeras isn't the final boss it will be very anticlimactic. It HAS to be him. I also take a wild guess to say that Jaina might take a part in the fight (either with or against The Legion).

They better leave him out of this and lock him down in an arcane prison, so he doesn't screw up this time.

This is how I play it out in my mind. We will weaken Sargeras using the Pillars and after a long gruesome fight he will be weakened enough that N'zoth will burst through the ground/portal/sky (having been freed because I'm assuming the pillars are what's been keeping him locked away) finishing off Sargeras in his weakened state and begin to kill off even more heroes of the Alliance/Horde forcing us to retreat and go into hiding. Thus begins the Black Empire 2.0.

Who likes lore? I sure do.

I feel like it's worth pointing out that the Fallen Avatar doesn't actually house the consciousness of Sargeras. Previous lore and Hazzikostas at BlizzCon 2016 mention that it's this mindless husk that has a will of its own. I won't get into too many of the specifics, but, Sargeras' will and presence has existed independently of the Avatar (and Medivh) since Warcraft I. Destroying the Avatar doesn't mean we've destroyed Sargeras, he's still out there.

Lore suggests that Sargeras is either lacking in physical form, or is diminished somehow, so the community theories that circulate that we'd be fighting a "weakened" Sargeras have some merit. Futhermore, the idea of fighting him on Argus also has some merit given that Argus is the "greatest Legion world" and is the site of the Army of the Light's struggle against them, meaning that Argus has some significance in the grand scheme of things. Considering that Argus is one of the few places where Demons can permanently die, it'd make sense that we'd make our final stand against the Legion's master there. Something to also consider is that without Sargeras, the Burning Legion wouldn't have existed in the first place; Demons ran around the universe causing trouble and were disorganized before he rounded them all up. It's entirely possible that without Sargeras (and Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden, since there are theories circulating that they'll be present on Argus, too, though I feel like that remains to be seen with how the Kil'Jaeden fight plays out) the Legion would sort of collapse on itself.

Mac'Aree was the "shining jewel" of Argus and is most likely the planet's capital city, so it's very likely that it's the Legion's main stronghold on Argus, their primo base of operations. I could see Mac'Aree being the location of the Argus raid. This is getting into my own personal theories, but I could see a joint fight with Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden being the penultimate boss (because Blizzard loves Twin bosses and recycling bosses in general) with a weakened Sargeras being attacked where he's most vulnerable. But, like I said, that former bit hinges heavily on what happens in the Kil'Jaeden fight in the Tomb.

TL;DR -- Sargeras not being the Legion endboss because we fight the Avatar is inconsistent with lore that suggests the contrary

Sargeras has some alone time with Khadgar and 100% integrates with him. By killing Khadgar we kill sargeras. Khadgar does some crazy heroic sacrifice thing, sargeras dead, yay happy panda time. come back to azeroth n'zoth taken over, void lords introduced in game.

Well, considering they said that we wont have our artifacts in future expansions, there is possibility we use our artifacts powers to finally finish Sargeras and our artifacts will lose all their power in the process.

A lot of interesting ideas! I've checked new 7.2 Xal'atath, Blade of the Black EmpireXal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire sound files. Even more whispers mentioning "the God of Deep" were added.

There've been theories in various lore and RP communities that the Temple of Elune (the structure that's known as the Tomb of Sargeras) was built over part of N'Zoth's prison.

The first evidence that might be able to be cited is that the ancient Night Elves used the Pillars of Creation to "seal a wound" in the earth, and then built the Temple over it. Given that there's a Titan facility under the Temple, it's entirely possible that the facility is part of the complex used to house N'Zoth. Xal'atath's new audio files make mention that "the Legion burrows deep, here. If they burrow any deeper, they may not like what they find," which could hint at N'Zoth or something Old God related, seeing as how the blade is tied to the Old Gods, and she makes references to them periodically in various dungeons. There's nothing concrete to suggest he's down there, but it's a start.

Second, we're not entirely sure where N'Zoth is imprisoned. Chronicle Vol. 1's map of the Black Empire placed him in the eastern section of Kalimdor, and it was never expressly stated where he was imprisoned - we knew that Y'Shaarj was killed and his death formed the Well of Eternity, Yogg-Saron was stuffed into Ulduar and C'Thun in Ahn'Qiraj, but N'Zoth went unmentioned. If you look at the map, N'Zoth would've been hanging out in the Eastern Kingdoms area, and Suramar (back when Kalimdor was a supercontinent) would've been in that general area before the landmass shattered and the continents drifted apart. It's more speculation than anything, as is most of this post, but it's possible that N'Zoth was buried under what's now the Broken Shore, given cross-references to maps and lore.

It remains to be seen if we'll ever re-visit the Tomb of Sargeras in the future to deal with N'Zoth should he be down there, but it's also entirely probable he's not there at all. Previous theories and lore have pointed to N'Zoth being embedded in the seabed, with Nazjatar (the Naga capital city, where Azshara lives) being built around him as he was the Old God responsible for the transformation of the Highborne into the Naga. But, again, certain evidence points to either of them being viable, and we'll see the actuality of it in the (hopefully) near future.

I think the quote isn't new. This one is:

"It was here in ages past, that the God of the Deep lost a great battle to the God of Seven Heads, but as was so often the case, even defeat ultimately worked in this God's favor."

I think you're right, I can't remember where I picked up the "burrowing" quote; I just listened through Xal'atath's 7.2 audio and couldn't find it.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
