Control Warlock

Recommended Posts

In the last day I'm too trying to build a Midrange Demonlock, but I made some different decision, because I went a little more zoo oriented. And I decided to keep less demon to made a better Bloodreaver board, as with too many 1/1 token it doesn't work at all. And after facing too control deck, I went a little greedier...

Golakka Crawler is a good tech card against shamans, rogues and other aggro decks.

If you face control decks excessively, play additional value cards.

I looked at the list again. Medivh, the Guardian and The Lich King are good examples of high value cards I mentioned, you probably don't need more, deck becomes little greedy in my opinion.

If you want to go that route, Elise the Trailblazer is value generator. Those cards can save you from time to time. Bear in mind that, they are completely random.

If you don't want 5 random cards, you can play Cairne Bloodhoof, which is always a good addition against control decks with many forms of board clear. It is a sticky minion which will annoy your opponent and give you a bunch of trades to have the board until you drop DK.

Ysera is one of the best at that for sure, though I don't suggest you add one, unless you play against one priest after another. That card is a nightmare for priest, especially w/o silence at their hand.

EDIT: I was playing around with the list and all possible cards that could make a good addition. Then I realized Kabal Trafficker might be another card that can be added, as a big-ish body + additional demon to get back with DK later on.

As I responded the first question on mobile, I might add more options at this point.

As for more board control options, you can add Faceless Shamblers to go with Dread Infernals and Abyssal Enforcer.

If you keep playing against jade druids, add Skulking Geist, which also works against shamans.

If you often play against decks which make use of hero power as a part of their gameplan, priest, shaman and hunter for example, you can even add Mindbreaker (I am 100% serious, especially against priests) Just a reminder here, only play the card in case of certain board control.

Finally, I suggest you craft Doomsayers as it sees play in several classes, namely Mage, Paladin and Warlock. Some people even play it in highlander priest and jade druid.

Hope this was helpful :)

Guest carl

how can control warlocks beat secret mages and priests? i feel its all luck in hoping they get horrible starts. secret mage just goes auto pilot and plays on curve and big priest and spiteful priest just seem to wreck this deck late game (control warlocks always go into late game). any tips would be  appreciated because i really love playing control, but i feel like these 2 decks just destroy us and i run into them ALL the time.

Could putting in mountain giants be any good ive been trying to get an idea that might help the early game more so or is it then to clunky late if you dont play it faster

Well, Mountain Giants don't help with early game really. I mean it is an 8/8 on turn 4 which might help you beating other control decks.

If what you mean by early game is something to help against paladins or mages,  it is not worth sparing a deckslot for.

Against priests and druids, it can steal some early wins, thats it. So, it can be used to salvage some bad matchups.

It is up to you, but I don't suggest it.

The boomsday version of this deck is unplayable.  I have gone from rank 6 to rank 9 with 0 wins.  I am normally a rank 5 every season player, but this deck is just no good for this meta.

Control warlock should be in a decent spot right now, looking at its winrate (although it is possible that you got unlucky and got several bad matchups). Can you please link a few replays so that we can identify the problem?

The current iteration of this deck is completely unplayable in the current meta. Give it a miss.

Control Warlock isn't it in a good spot right now. Main issue is the lack of healing. As for any control deck, warlock needs some survivability, and while Warrior or Priest has a hero power that helps with that, Warlock hero power goes the other way. To get that healing, you have to play bad cards. Lord Jaraxxus brings out immense late game value because of his hero power, and the large weapon (which is prone to all weapon removals ran in todays meta, you can thank Rogues and Warriors for that) but it limits your health too. And there are 3 other hero cards, 2 of which are way better than control tools than him.

Fel Lord Betrug + Plot Twist can heal a bit thanks to Deranged Doctors, but until that point, you are dead against tempo rogues and token druids, which compose the majority of the meta.

Oh, and the fact that you don't have enough healing makes Bomb Warrior matchup way worse than it should.

On a positive note, handlock lists might have an edge against another common deck, Summoner's Mage. They have a way of dealing with an early Mountain Giant and Twilight Drake, by playing their own and taunt them up. There enough powerful board clears for smaller boards (Hellfire/Shadowflame in some cases) and larger ones (Twisting Nether and bigger Shadowflames with Giants and etc.) Mage doesn't have burst, so Lord Jaraxxus isn't a bad way the close the game out. Also the aforementioned two card healing/board clear with rush minions combo might work fine against mages, because except some highroll situations, Summoner Mage is really slow. These are all in theory though. I don't know how does it work against the mage deck.

Hearthstone is taking a bold step into the StarCraft universe with "Heroes of StarCraft: The Great Dark Beyond," a 49-card mini-set launching in January 2025.
Featuring iconic factions like Zerg, Protoss, and Terran, complete with legendary leaders Sarah Kerrigan, Artanis, Jim Raynor, this set blends StarCraft nostalgia with Hearthstone's gameplay.
Additionally, Arena Mode is getting a massive overhaul, introducing shorter Normal Arena runs and a high-stakes Underground Arena with a game matching "re-draft on loss" mechanic, giving you the option to re-draft cards, edit your deck, and keep your run alive, after you lose.
The year ahead promises 3 expansions, including the Emerald Dream's battle between Old Gods and Druids, a return to Un'Goro Crater, and a Chromie-led journey through alternate realities.

Hearthstone: Heroes of StarCraft – The Great Dark Beyond Mini-Set
Early next year, Hearthstone is going beyond Warcraft and into... Heroes of StarCraft! This special Mini-Set will have a whopping 49 new cards across three themed factions, which show what the StarCraft universe would look like in the Hearthstone Tavern. Each faction is made up of cards that can be used across multiple classes, including an iconic Hero card.
       Zerg
Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock have joined the Zerg! Led by the formidable  Sarah Kerrigan, they will have aggressive cards that win the game by swarming the board.
       Protoss
Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue fight for the Protoss Empire. Led by the High Templar Artanis, they will have powerful, high-cost cards that are made cheaper throughout the game.
       Terran
Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior make up the Terran forces, led by the one and only Jim Raynor. They will command Battlecruisers—a special take on the Starship mechanic from The Great Dark Beyond.
The Mini-Set will feature a slew of StarCraft units which are sure to invoke nostalgia, as well as the Terran-armored Murloc, Grunty, and new, thematic music. You can chart a course for the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, launching in January 2025! More announcements, details, and card reveals are coming closer to launch.
       Major Arena Updates
Then, for the first time in 10 years, Arena Mode is getting a major overhaul. With that update, there will be two kinds of Arena to choose from. Normal Arena will be shorter form, allowing you to complete your runs more quickly. Competitive Arena players will be able to play in the higher-stakes Underground Arena, with longer runs and a new feature: Re-Draft on Loss. Re-Draft on Loss means that, after you lose, you’ll have the option to re-draft cards, edit your deck, and keep your run alive.
Ratings will also be added to both Normal and Underground Arena. Normal, skill-based matchmaking will be used for Normal Arena. Underground Arena throws caution to the wind and lets you face off against opponents of all skill levels.
This major Arena revamp is coming in the first half of next year. Look out for more details about this update closer to when it goes live.
A Preview of the Year Ahead: The Year of the Raptor!
On top of those updates, Hearthstone has an exciting year of expansions ahead, with much-requested themes, locations, and familiar faces across Azeroth.
In the first expansion of the year, enter the Emerald Dream and join the battle between the Old Gods and the Druids of the Emerald Dream for the fate of the World Tree. Things will heat up even more when the Druids of the Flame light up the Mini-Set (releasing earlier than normal this year, during the 32.2 Patch).
The second expansion of the year will be Hearthstone’s first-ever sequel: the return to Un’Goro Crater! Join Elise on a hunt for a mythical, lost Tortollan city. When you find it, join the Tortollans in a festival to celebrate the mighty dinosaurs of the crater in the 33.4 Mini-Set.
In the third expansion of the year, travel with Chromie through alternate realities to recruit Legendary Warcraft heroes like you’ve never seen them before. Leading to the 34.4 Mini-Set: an epic showdown against Murozond at the end of time!
