Character Choice!?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am conducting some personal research on WoW, specifically why people choose the primary character that they do. To answer this question, I have come up with several questions I would like to research, and hopefully gain valuable feedback. Please feel free to respond to as many of the questions below, as they will be very beneficial to the results of my research! Thank you all!

What character did you choose as your primary?

Why did you choose this character?

What do you enjoy doing most in WoW? Why?

Does your character choice reflect what you like to do in WoW? If so, how? If not, why not?

What do you enjoy doing outside of playing WoW?

Please respond right on this post! All of those responding, I can't thank you enough for your willingness to participate.

What do you enjoy doing outside of playing WoW?

Expand

1. Prot Warrior

2. It was back in BC or even in classis. Just felt that prot warrior is the best tanking class. I also like how warriors look and how the handle situations. We stand the ground!

3. Raiding and playing with my longterm friends. Its just fun to achiev something together.

4. There is no explicit content i like to do. But basically yes, a good tank is always needed for the most things.

5. Living my life with every aspect of it :-)

What character did you choose as your primary?

I stared out with a brew monk, however when changed guilds I was pushed into a dps roll, As i dislike WW i swapped to my feral druid who is currently my main.
I keep my monk tank as my alt.

Why did you choose this character?

Picked monk originally because i liked how the tanking spec felt to play.  When asked to dps i was unsure for a long time, looked at a few choices but main defining factors were i liked mdps over rdps. I wanted to be able to tank/heal if the raid needed it and don't like ret or WW...

What do you enjoy doing most in WoW? Why?

Raiding.  But i feel I cant raid properly atm with out spending hours and hours farming ap / ledgendaries which unfortunately i don't have all that much time to do (what with socializing,  work and wanting to not commit all my game time to just wow).

Does your character choice reflect what you like to do in WoW? If so, how? If not, why not?

Yes in that i like the flexibility of changing roles if the guild needs something different for a boss or one of the main tank/healers are away. It very much is a concept i lean towards because I enjoy raiding.

What do you enjoy doing outside of playing WoW?

Traveling - Friends - Playing other games...

What character did you choose as your primary?

Death Knight

Why did you choose this character?

Was the only unique class not seen in other forms of high fantasy or rpgs. Every game has warriors, paladins, hunters, etc. Death Knight sounded unique and interesting.

What do you enjoy doing most in WoW? Why?

Raiding mostly. The challenge and rewards both cosmetic and functional that come with it. Gives you something to strive for. Also the constant character improvement is rewarding and also in ways a bit like gambling. You roll on gear hoping for that big win. It's delayed gratification but those jackpots are amazing.

Does your character choice reflect what you like to do in WoW? If so, how? If not, why not?

It was independent. I didn't start off going "oh this looks good to raid with". It was more the design and story got me into it and raiding kept me going. DK's have had variable stints of being strong or worthless in raids and that is irrelevant to me. I like my class I play my class.

What do you enjoy doing outside of playing WoW?

I love movies. I like gardening specifically flowers. I like animals and going to the zoo. I also enjoy being part of the icy-veins family and being a part of this website (im not technically playing the game :P )

1, Hunter - Beast Mastery

2. Unlimited mobility, double pet (AWESOME),

3. I enjoy the whole game, but i mostly enjoy Mythic + and Raids, not doing them a lot but when im doing it I'm doing it with friends

4. I always had/have problems with choosing a class, because I always wanted to be useful to the group, like playing a tank or healer for short queues and easy getting into raids/dungeons. That caused a lot of altoholism,( I got all horde and alliance classes maxed out). Finally I decided to stop caring about that, and now I play a spec I really enjoy, sadly it is the most played class but whatever I don't care anyomore as long as I have fun playing it.

5. Outside of playing WoW I enjoy working out, running, reading fantasy books, spending time with my wife and my son

What character did you choose as your primary?

  • Monk, Rogue and Druid - I don't really have a single one here, since I maintain all 3 as active characters.

Why did you choose this character?

  • I enjoy playing WoW with my own music a lot of the time. For me, it's incredibly important for my character to flow just as my music does. I don't like playstyles where I have to stand still, the movement is slow or choppy. I like to be able to dart around as I please, with abilities comboing themselves into one fantastic symphony of moves. These 3 stood out as the best choices for it, as well as allowing me to fill every role.

What do you enjoy doing most in WoW? Why?

  • PvPing - I absolutely love BGs as WW/Sub/Boomkin, especially if it's something like the Southshore Brawl as a Boomkin.

Does your character choice reflect what you like to do in WoW? If so, how? If not, why not?

  • Yeah, I think so. All 3 are excellent duelists or multi-target fighters, allowing me to swap as I wish.

What do you enjoy doing outside of playing WoW?

  • Reading and writing.

What character did you choose as your primary?

Priest

Why did you choose this character?

I wanted to play something that was needed at the time in Vanilla and I didn't care about killing things.

What do you enjoy doing most in WoW? Why?

Tricky question.  While deployed overseas, the best part of WoW was visiting places that seemed familiar to me.  Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood.  I enjoyed going to these places because I could not go home...at least I could log in and see something familiar...a home away from home...familiar names and silly things that made sense to me.

I've always enjoyed PvP though, especially on the Alliance side because it usually needed help.

Does your character choice reflect what you like to do in WoW? If so, how? If not, why not?

I think it does.  My strongest priority in PvP has always been protecting my friends.  I would later roll a tank class to do the same in PVE.

What do you enjoy doing outside of playing WoW?

Riding my motorcycle

1. My primary is a paladin.

2. Because I was a paladin in Diablo II and I love the idea of an iron-clad holy crusader who can heal allies.

Frankly though, I often consider changing my main to a mage, warrior or DK given the huge gap in bad-assness and burst damage/SFX satisfaction. Pallies are fairly bland and their Templar's Verdict sounds like tapping a stick on a tin box.

3. I enjoy healing the most. I have to say that despite ret's dissatisfaction, the holy pally's burst healing is bonkers-good!

4. My character choice reflects my desire to avatar iron-clad colossi that smash enemies, and possibly blast them with devastating spells or manipulate them with the DK's most super badass telekinesis.

5. Outside of WoW, I play FPSs (favorite is Titanfall), ride bicycles and rarely create art.

I m hyped for Diablo IV as you guys are and an cool new character idea bumped into my head which will never happen...
So whats this epic idea of mine?
Blizzard should make... REAPER A PLAYABLE CHARACTER... yes i know pretty dumb
But here comes the fun part. The story of the reaper... The reaper you are playing with has decided to left the other reapers behind and start his own life. Something like Tryael. The reaper then decided to join humans to conquer the other evils remaining in the Sanctuary, but of course the humans denied you. So you come up with a plan to tell them your good, and they believe you, somehow. That's the story of him
But now comes the Abilities and the Character design. The abilities would be pretty cool. The primary attack would be the one that Malthael has, when he attacks you in the boss fight with his small scythes. Now the othe abilities is just like's Malthael's abilities. So if you want more details, then post in the comments. I love talking about my ideas :)))

I usually sim my characters to get the best possible results. I enjoy the process quite a lot and since I reached 120, I wanted to find out the best build of the spec. (Note, I didn't want to find out what to play, but rather how my own build fares in comarison.) I rarely mind a 1-2% difference. If it goes above 2%, I really mind a change. What this thread is about is mainly to bring something in the attention of those who help making the class guides, especially the talent choices. To my surprise, I was awed to find out that certain talents outperform previous "Standard" choices in the endgame, probably due to the stat squish.

The Frost go-to build (top dps) would probably be along the lines of <Icy Talons / Cold Heart - Runic Attenuation - Frozen Pulse - Gathering Storm - Breath of Sindragosa>. What I found out primarily was that after the removal of legendaries, Cold Heart severely underperforms at most given situations resulting in a major dps drop due to the low mastery. Gathering Storm also suffers from the same problem and most of the times, Frostwyrm's Fury is better overall. The biggest surprise of them all, however, was that Inexorable Assault overperforms quite a lot, and is the first reason why I made the topic. I then started simming with the above in mind and I came across a build that some would not consider on par with top dog builds around the meta, which is the use of Horn of Winter which overperforms both its other two options when using the Breath build. Talent Sim can be seen here. Another intresting thing, which I loved, was that the 2nd best build uses Obliteration as a lvl 100 talent and no other build surpassed it (Other than the first one, obviously). So, I encourage frost players out there to give their other, less common talents a try. To the class guide author(s), I believe that the two "underdog" talents will earn their spot in the class guides.

Thank you for your time reading this.

      Hey community!

I've been looking to level a new class but I'm not quite sure what to level. I currently have a monk, fury warrior, and Demon Hunter. I'm looking for a class that has little to no downtime and a decent amount of survivablity, mobility, as well as an even amount of single target and multiple target damage abilities. Don't really mind if its a hybrid class because i dont might healing every once in a while.

      Thanks for your help!

      Hello there,

I am trying to find a character that suits me and 'till now i didn't find it..
I have a Paladin level 110, a Rogue, DH, Warrior and a Druid. I really enjoyed to play Prot. Paladin but i was overwhelmed with all the knowledge i need to know for raids.I have to say that this is the class that i played the most. I have to say that i usually play in weekends and sometimes in week days.
I enjoyed playing warrior in PVP but, that was it, nothing else..

Two days ago i just got my Druid level 110 and played as Feral (with the intention to play Resto or Guard 'cause i want to be a healer and/or a tank but i found the rotations a little off for me..)

Anyway, my question is, what should i play? I was thinking about a Disc Priest or a Ench/Resto Shaman or a Brew/Mist Monk. I just can't decide what i should play and unfortunately i have to level them from scratch..

      Any advice ?

I really need a new perspective 'bout what i should play :)

      Thanks!

I played at the launch of legion for a good month or two, but i've recently come back. I picked up unholy and I really like it but I like to have some alts so i'm looking for another option.

Now, to clarify my question. What I mean when I ask for complexity is perhaps not everyones definition. When I play my UDK, I understand the basics. Put on wounds, pop wounds=Damage. Obviously it's a lot deeper than that in terms of our kit but thats the general gist. When I play UDK, I feel as if I play it more i'll get better. There's some RNG, and lots of varying situations as to what button I need to press next to squeeze out the most dps.

That's the kind of thing I crave. And i'm curious what other classes have this type of playstyle in the same or varying degrees. I know for a fact feral is in this camp, and if i'd guess i'd say it's the most complex class in legion at the moment. The problem is I don't really like Feral's flavor. I tried Arms warrior but my problem with it was i'd colossus smash...and then just hit the guy. It never really seemed to change and that got on my nerves a little, despite me loving the flavor.

To summarize, what classes do you guys thing have the deepest pool of choices, the most you can wring out of them by practice and mastery of them. Whether that be through best rotation or maybe even a legendary or two that mix it up for them. Thanks in advance!
