Lyra, Raza, or Velen?

Recommended Posts

So I just got back into playing hearthstone again, been a little over a year(still consider myself a noob), and I just got enough dust to craft a legendary. I've been playing priest a lot lately due to the shadowreaper anduin drop, and I've really been enjoying it, but can't seem to get past rank 20. Should I craft Lyra, Raza, or Velen to make that deck better, or forgo crafting a legendary and focus more on rares/epics to fill out the deck?

I think it's a control deck but I'm not entirely sure, still new to building decks.

I've played Control Priest through most of Un'Goro and am currently running one know. In my current version I'm running all 3 along side Shadowreaper Anduin in a Highlander style deck but outside of Highlander if I had to choose one it would have to agree with Positiv2 and go with Lyra the Sunshard. It has single handedly won me games. On top of that, like Positiv2 mentioned, it is more flexible than the other 2 and can fit into more strategies. I hoped this helped and welcome back to Hearthstone. :)

I'd suggest not to be hasty with crafting one card.

Play a few games, look at some Priest Builds, see how the meta develops.

Then, after evaluating which deck you realy want to play choose the card you need most importantly.

Sure, KingMe + positiv2 are right. Lyra the Sunshard is the best choice and if you absolutly want to craft a card out of these three now, she is the way to go.

But why making the decision too fast? Maybe you'll even realize you enjoy another class more?

Thank you guys for your help! I think I've just been frustrated going up against fully fleshed out decks in ranked with multiple legendaries, combined with having enough dust to craft one for the first time. I'll wait and see if priest stays fun & viable and try to get lyra in a pack.

Also, what exactly is Highlander priest? I've seen it online but haven't really grasped the strategy behind it?

It uses cards that require you not to have any duplicate cards in your deck (have every card only once). The main cards are Reno JacksonKazakus and Raza the Chained. These cards are very powerful, but have a big drawback as well. Usually the goal in wild is to overpower the opponent in a long game as these decks tend to have a lot of big threats, as they can heal back up with Reno Jackson. In standard, midrange versions are somewhat popular as well, and the deck is centred around Kazakus (e.g. Kazakus zoo warlock).

Not sure if it was part of the question, but Highlander decks got their name from a movie Highlander, where the main theme (and a popular quote) is "There can only be one", which fits the deck limitations of Highlander decks in hearthstone, as there can only be one copy of each card.

Thx for the info, I wasn't familiar with the term of Highlander Priest.

It's cool^^

And a last tip from my part SoundBox97: Don't play arena. Maybe you used to a year before and arena has IMO always be an interesting option. But they changed the rewards (now you almost always get a card, 90% non golden rare AKA 20 dust). Not worth it any longer if you don't manage to get at least 5 wins per run as average.

Wow really? I've been spending all my gold on arena entrances, thanks for letting me know!

Sadly, this seems to be the case.

There is no official Blizzard statement, but the figures I get from my arena-runs are too strong to be random luck IMO.

Only official thing is, that you can't get a common non golden any longer. That is true. And a common rare is better, no question about that. But still, 20 dust isn't great.

e.g.: You get 2 wins.

2 wins gave you 1 pack and around 50 gold most of the time.

Or 1 pack + 45 dust.

If you were very unlucky you got a card (non golden common most of the time = 5 dust)

Now you get 1 pack + 1 rare non golden card most of the time

Instead of getting 50 gold or 45 dust you get 20 dust now.

(Sure, you can no longer get 1 pack + 5 dust, but that happend very rarely earlier on)

I have quite detailed stats about my last 100 arena runs if you are interested in more figures.

I really cannot comment on neither the overall value nor the flexibility of those cards but one thing to keep in mind might be the format you want to play. If you plan on sticking solely to standard, consider when the cards rotate out unless you somehow are able to accumulate vast amount of dust.

To improve your winchances when already owning Anduin I'd say Raza is definately the card to go for. It makes Anduin unbeatable. Lyra makes the party even bigger but playing Anduin when Raza was played before creates  a very big win chance on it's own.

edit: "definately": moronic misspelling of the word "definitely". Comes from Latin word "definitus"

Welcome Adventurers! The time has come upon us, FINALLY! The moment in Classic WoW history us diehard, loyal WoW nerds have all been waiting for. WRATH CLASSIC! Arthas Did Nothing Wrong (ADNW) has just begun recruiting (For WotLK Classic) hard-core, casual, rp, pvp, pve, raiders, anything you can think of, you are welcomed here. Although our main focus in ADNW will be progressive raiding, 10 and 25 man and pvp content, we look to have someone for just about anything. Currently we are recruiting for our CORE 10M team composed entirely of irl / internet homies. We are in need of just 1 HEALER (Highly prefer a disc priest with a shadow off spec) and another DPS. Preferably lock or Shadow priest. We are looking to fill our B 10m team entirely, so we can pool together for 25 man’s when it comes time to crush 25m. This guild was founded by a group of tight nit friends recently, who have been around since TBC. WOTLK was our turning point in WoW, and we CANNOT wait to get another crack at this and MAKE IT RIGHT. Come join the adventure of a chill environment full of helpful hands and knowledge. Feel free to reach out to me Via Discord: Daevilmonkiexp#9239 OR Bnet: Daevilmonkie#1280 just let me know you are interested in the guild and we can have a convo! ARTHAS DID NOTHING WRONG!

      To all who read,
I am a WoW player and have been since vanilla, I’ve played several variances of classes through the expansions and this round settled with shadow priest which I ran through the majority of Legion and BfA. I have never written a guide or forum post before but decided I wanted to share my thoughts and opinions and see how other players in the same position feel as well.

I would like to ask people to respect everyone’s opinion as this forum topic will be a place for unusual class builds, talent choices, and stat priorities. Everyone plays the game for fun and should be able to build a toon that is effective utilizing a multi style approach. I do believe that the simulators are awesome for checking gear and choices when it comes to specific cases perhaps PvP. That being said though, I feel as though sims are not really a good indicator of a talent choice or gear piece’s level of effectiveness. I am by no means a tremendously good player, probably average to be honest, but ask any top tier player and they will tell you very rarely does a pull go “perfect” for their class. these simulations then are only showing if something goes perfect, so I thought why not build a class around what “actually” happens versus the “perfect pull”, so that is what I did.
I would love to hear what other players thoughts on the matter are and list what your individual stat priorities are and maybe discuss why!
      mine are as follows;
      1.) Mastery = Versatility
(both of these boost damage output but versatility is not limited by number of DoTs so it helps if you are struggling to keep skills on targets.)
2.) Haste (this increases the amount of ticks per cast, when paired with high Vers and mastery you deal large DoT damage which is great if you’re in a high movement fight.)
      3.) Critical
This for many reasons is great. First, shadowy app procs, and secondly just plain damage bumps. Lastly, and arguably most important though is the shadow word death damage boost. When we execute (comparing to warrior skill) it deals increased damage naturally to targets below 20% health I believe. When you pair this with high mastery Vers and a decent crit chance you can execute for incredibly high amounts of damage to help that end fight dps chart!
