Patch 2.6.1 PTR Hotfix: Demon Hunter Impale Buffs

Recommended Posts

0AteihL.jpg

Game Designer Don Vu posted a hotfix recently applied to 2.6.1 PTR that increases ImpaleImpale's damage bonus on Karlei's PointKarlei's Point and ImpaleImpale's weapon damage bonus on the Shadow's Mantle 6-piece.

Many sets received buffs in the latest Patch 2.6.1 PTR build. Full patch notes can be found here.

Blizzard LogoBlizzard (Source)

Hey everyone,

We just applied a hotfix to the PTR servers that increased the ImpaleImpale damage bonus on Karlei's PointKarlei's Point to 375-500% and increased the ImpaleImpale weapon damage bonus on the Shadow's Mantle 6-piece to 50,000%. You will have to remake game if you're currently in one to have these changes applied.

Because we hotfixed these changes, the values on the tooltips will not be updated on your PTR client, but you should be receiving the correct amount of increased damage. Please remember that these numbers, like all numbers on the PTR, are not final and may change before we release this patch to the live servers.

Thanks again for the discussion and have a great weekend!

Do we have a new proper game director?

I personally don't like the number inflation that happens every 3-6 months. Buffing sets to make them more in-line with the other sets is good for balance reasons, but they're buffing many (if not all) of the top tier sets as well.

I have nothing against more ways to get into higher grifts per-se when done well. Kanai cube for example, was a really great way to both add in a lot of content (By means of recipes; the longing to "gotta collect em all" and general power creep because of the "Cool, we get to use more legendary effects now!") and I would prefer to see more ways like that to increase power level rather than "ok all builds do 2-3x more damage now so you can push grifts 10-15 higher."

Some people don't mind any form of power creep, others loathe any form of power creep and other again (Like me) like something in between; power creep by means of more complexity and/or features.

I hate power creep too of course and with this patch probably in the future they gonna give more torment levels (I hope not) but atm it looks better than ever in D3, a lot more diversity and viable wizard builds that are not archon. And you can't deny this is quickest reply and hotfix ever in D3 history

Actually, until you can prove this, I will deny it.

I haven't tried the PTR yet (I'd rather find out in live after the changes settled, so I don't get disappointed (lol mortick's)) but if they managed to bring the sets more in line with each other then I'd agree with that statement. Still, I don't know if that is true, I'll find out once it goes live. More viable grift 120+ (already accounting for damage inflation in this ptr) sets are welcome.

I'm hoping for every class to have a solo set above 100 comfortably. Necro is at 117 top clear, with Monk and DH being at 103. With Necro having a guaranteed spot in 4-mans, it'll be nice to give other classes chance at 110+.

I take it these numbers are Live and not PTR? I remember the devs mentioning something like 5 grifts requiring about 2x damage to beat it. I'm fairly certain it was mentioned during a blue post regarding LoN nerfs before it went live (At the same time the shadow set rework iirc... Nov 2015?) that nerfing the damage bonus by half only dropped LoN builds by ~5 grifts and that was their earmark at the time.

I'm saying that because most builds got about a 3x-4x damage boost (Talrasha meteor for example) while most "traditional" top-tier builds got ~2x dps. (Raekor for example). This means that the top builds should rise ~5 grifts and those other sets by ~10, maybe 15.

I'm sure some sets can't get 100+ grifts even after these buffs (Delsere for example, I think might have it tough because of the bubble being so positional, even though that build's damage got like... quintupled)

Some builds that were T13 builds at best can probably push 80-90 (Condemn build for example), but builds like invoker can clearly surpass 100. So there's still quite a disparity margin, but I'd argue not every build needs to be able to perform identical. Just need to have at the very least 2 sets per class have top-tier potential. And that's much easier said than done, but they're getting pretty close with this PTR I suppose?

Yeah. I think that the issue that I mainly would want fixed is this. DH and Necro kind of have this, with Rathma only being 4-5 GRs behind Trag's and Impale only being the same behind UE Grenade. Witch Doctor, completely LoN on the leaderboards, Wizard, completely Archon on leaderboards, Crusader and Blessed Hammer.

Variance! We need it!

Well the Sweeper Crusader build is getting a buff and it is in top 50 on the leaderboards,if that matters, but the rest are Hammerdins, the top player in Europe on DH runs a hybrid Shadow Mantle and Natalya's Vengance build and he has done GR 108.And yet nobody has ever mentioned the 6p NV+ 2p SM on DH with fan of knives and lord greenstone's dagger. The answer is the lack of imagination of some players and the incompatability to merge different builds since the DH is one of the few to have 7 pieces in a single build and 2 of them not being a piece of armor, imo something along those lines should be done to more builds. Most 7 pieces builds have 6 Armor piece and 1 jewelery or weapon slot. Some builds have to use a belt or wrists to complete a build, these builds should have another piece get added in like for the Invoker a shield would be good since there isn't exactly a concrete shield to use.Of course some build don't need this much variation. But more hybrid builds should be able to be made, and of course come to light.

I think you need to be crazy careful with this - essentially, when there is the potential for set interaction, you create the possibility for absolutely insanely large gaps between sets. Look at Firebird's Archon vs. Tal/Vyr Archon for Wizard. Firebird's is just nowhere near, despite also being able to combo with Tal's. The combo works far too well on the latter and it means that what was once a gap between Tal's vs. Firebird's has just been hideously amplified by Vyr's.

They'd need to spend a long time ensuring in development that things are properly matched, with multiple combinations, otherwise one will work "too" well.

I actually didn't know it,haven't played DH since season 5 or something like that. But shouldn't he be removed from the leaderboards and have his acc banned?

Well an easy way to make combined sets viable and not too overpowered is to make you remove 1 or 2 essential legendaries from the setup which will make you too strong if you have them equipped and another legendary cubed,of course not in all cases this is possible.I can speak for the crusader since it's the class I've played since the start of the seasons so I am more knowledgeable about it's strenght and weaknesses and capabilities and I can come up with different ideas which will make some builds more viable, hybrid builds more unique but not overthrowing staple builds from the leaderboards.

I suppose a team of professional players could come up with new ideas and they should be voted separetly for each different class, this could be another idea to remove the power creep and actually make you want to come up with innovative builds which could compete with other builds.Or maybe create more legendaries for the LoN builds and make them a viable option. For the crusader they ignore Shield Bash,Fist of the Heavens,Smite,Justice,Phalanx. For others most builds that require Mantle of Chanelling(except Barb) are disregarded completely, there are many ways to make builds more viable but they ignore the fact that there aren't enough sets or legendaries that actually do something.

I doubt Blizzard are even paying attention to it, since it's non-seasonal. That's likely why he is still up there.

For any kind of general-legendary, I imagine they might come to a point where they balance it different for each class, possibly buffing/nerfing it for different ones.

Well now we can only wait to see what happens in the future.Maybe more people will be hired to work on Diablo 3,maybe the staff will simply be changed or even a new character or expansion will be added. In my opinion as long as the Crusader can compete with the others I will be happy, and as long new controversial builds will come to light more people will be drawn back to this game or even some new people.

There are people speculating (pretty widely, IMO) that Druid might come to D3 soon. Not sure if I'd particularly care about it, since I generally like playing things like Necro/Wizard.

A brand new season arrives in Diablo 3 next month! Blizzard have the full preview ready so let's take a look at the cosmetic rewards, season journey, Haedrig's Gift sets, and more!
      Season 33 (Source)
Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 33: Shades of the Nephalem. Starting on October 25 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Shades of the Nephalem theme, which first debuted with Season 22. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below. Also, Season 32 will officially come to an end on October 20. Seasonal Journey
      Season Theme
      Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Season Journey Rewards
      Seasonal Conquest
      Haedrig’s Gift
      Patch 2.7.8
      Season Theme
The shadows, they are moving, and they seem… animated. Like they have a will of their own. Whatever this trickery is, perhaps you can use it to your advantage. Let’s see what the demons say when you fight side by side with your own shadow! Shadows of the Past: Activating a Shrine/Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class, who will come with a randomly chosen 1 of 3 predetermined builds. This clone's power will scale with your character and will last for 1 minute (unless your character dies). See this article for the shadow clone variations that can spawn when activating. Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season. This fourth slot will have the choices of the first 3 slots but will not stack with any of them, providing additional flexibility to your build. Return to Top Season Cosmetic Rewards
Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to any who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 33, this means awards originally available from Season 9 are returning to the Season Journey. However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve already participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth in the Trial of Tempests to earn the Stupendous Contraption pet and the Industrial Portrait Frame.
In addition to the Chest and Gloves slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Pandemonium portraits, and the cute and craggily Rocky pet first introduced in Season 9. Return to Top Season Journey Rewards
If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of five: Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a Level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete 2 Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at Level 70 in under fifteen seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Treasure Goblins outside of Nephalem Rifts will sometimes open portals to Greed’s domain, The Vault. Take U There: Reach Greater Rift Level 60 Solo. Greater Rift keystones can be obtained from any Nephalem Rift guardian. Power Amplification: Use Kanai’s Cube to augment an Ancient Legendary item with a Level 50+ gem. Cubic Reconfiguration: Use Kanai’s Cube to reforge a Legendary item. Return to Top Seasonal Conquest
Want to prepare your Conquest plan for Season 33? Here are the challenges you’ll face: For Curses!/Stars Align, pick any Cursed Chest event that requires killing monsters and defeat over 350 or more at level 70 on Torment X or higher. Also returning for Season 33 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at Level 70 in under an hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped. And lastly we'll be bringing back Speed Demon/Need for Speed, meaning you'll need to beat a Torment X Nephalem Rift at Level 70 in 2 minutes. Best of luck! Return to Top Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works: Completing Acts II, III, and IV of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely! The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 33: Barbarian - Might of the Earth Crusader - Thorns of the Invoker Demon Hunter - The Shadow's Mantle Monk - Monkey King's Garb Witch Doctor - Raiment of the Jade Harvester Wizard - Firebird's Finery Necromancer - Grace of Inarius Return to Top Patch 2.7.8
Our next patch goes live on October 22 and introduces quality-of-life updates for demon slayers on Mac. New Mac Executables/Mac Native Silicon and Intel: These updates will allow Diablo III to run on new versions of the macOS. PC Experience Stability: This PTR is open to both Mac and PC players. While the focal point of the 2.7.8 PTR is to test technical updates for Mac, we want PC users to monitor their playing experience as well. If you experience any stability issues or difficulties in connecting with Mac players, please give us that feedback. Return to Top

Season 32 in Diablo 3 starts on July 12 and here is the official preview with more details.
      (Source)
Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 32: Ethereal Memory. Starting on July 12 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Ethereal Memory theme, which first debuted with Season 24. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below.

      Seasonal Journey
      Season Theme
      Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Season Journey Rewards
      Seasonal Conquest
      Haedrig’s Gift
      Season Theme
As the Nephalem reflect on Sanctuary's history, instruments of power from a bygone era resurface. These ethereal memories will grant those persistent enough to search for them unimaginable power. Legends of the past will manifest once more in the present, and you must decide how to best use these gifts—for ethereal power is fugacious by nature, and will soon return to being no more than a myth.
For this seasonal theme, we were inspired to reimagine how Ethereal items could manifest in Diablo III, with 21 iconic weapons making a return from Diablo II. In Season 32, Ethereals are rare, powerful, and fleeting items.
Season 32 reintroduces Ethereals, a weapon-type that players will be able to acquire and hunt for in their upcoming seasonal journey. Ethereals will roll a powerful set of affixes, a random Class Weapon Legendary Power and a random Class Passive Power. Ethereals will have unique icons, names, item types, and sounds originally found in Diablo II. For additional details on Ethereals, check out the list below:
Ethereals are account bound and can only be dropped by monsters, chests, and destructibles, but do not require your character to be Level 70 in order to drop. Ethereals cannot be acquired through Kanai's Cube or from Kadala. Ethereal rarity drop rate is set between Ancient and Primal items. There are 3 unique Ethereals per class. Each Ethereal has fixed affixes and rolls one random Legendary Weapon power and one random Class Passive Skill. Only one Ethereal can be equipped at a time. Ethereals ignore item durability loss. Legendary Powers and Class Passive Skills rolled on Ethereals do not stack with the same power equipped through Kanai's Cube, Items or Skills. Ethereals cannot be Enchanted, Transmogrified, Dyed, Reforged, or traded. Ethereals can be augmented. Collecting all 21 Ethereals during the season will reward players with the Feat of Strength, Ethereal Recollection. Players who accomplish this will have all Ethereal transmogrify options available for future seasonal and non-seasonal play. Ethereals only drop in Seasonal play and will not transfer to your non-seasonal character when the season ends. Return to Top

In addition to the Boots and Pants slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn a series of portrait frames that smolder with demonic fires of the Burning Hells. The iconic wings of Andariel will also be available once more, allowing you to truly embrace your inner Maiden of Anguish.

      Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey (courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift) have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works:
Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts.
Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 32:
Barbarian – Immortal King’s Call Crusader – Seeker of the Light Demon Hunter – Natalya’s Vengeance Monk – Uliana’s Stratagem Necromancer – Trag’Oul’s Avatar Witch Doctor – Spirit of Arachyr Wizard – Vyr’s Amazing Arcana
