Could use some assistance with my DPS please

Hey all, my raid spot is up in the air right now because my dps has been low compared to the rest of the raid. I know part of it is gear but i want to make sure i am doing everything i can to max my dps.

 

 

First - I am ilvl551 - if most of my raid is 556-566 does that difference in ilvl make a significant difference in dps?

I follow the guide here for rotation and i use askmrrobot for my reforging, gems etc.

 

As of this week i grabbed an addon (forget the name) that tracks my living bomb and invocation up times so my goal there is get better up times.

 

Gear wise, i know my trinkets suck, ive been told the garrosh and immerseus trinkets by themselves will make a huge difference for me.

 

Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Living bomb uptime is low.

Are you snapshotting them?

 

You only got 68 fingers of frost procs, but you casted ice lance much more times. Are you casting Ice lance without proc? (I'm not sure tho, it might be only due to the glyph)

 

Invoker's energy could be still a bit higher, but that shouldn't be the main problem.

 

Try to get better trinkets, indeed :D Even the ToT LFR Breath of the Hydra is better than that valor one.

 

You didn't use Alter Time? oO Use it! :D

 

Mirror images could have been used once more as well.

 

Bonus: I like your helm ;))

 

Other than these I cannot see anything else :)

Yeah, trinkets have been horrible to me. I run LFR, Flex and Normal each week and i still have not got any new trinkets (although i have a lot of dkp now so i should be able to get the garrosh trinket this week)

 

Edit: oh yeah, ice lance, if im running away from something ill spam ice lance as i figure thats better than nothing while im running right? in my actual rotation ill only use it when it procs

 

Yeah, i was a lot better at using alter time last tier because of the set bonus but ill work on getting it in my rotation again.

 

Sadly i think that help is going a way, i want the teir shoulders and helm to get my 4p

 

 

Will those trinkets really make that much of a difference in my dps? and should i be that much behind other dps in my guild who might be around the 560 ilvl mark?

Just taking a quick look at Immerseus HC, I'm not an expert at reading logs, but Invocation uptime should be just a little higher, but that's an easy fix. I'm not sure what the most ideal bomb uptime is on this fight, because of the phasing and multi-targeting and such, but the other mage had 54.8% uptime on Living Bomb, next to your 48.3%. That can have a big impact. Like everyone else had said, your trinkets do play a part, and hopefully you'll find some upgrades shortly.

How does my reforging and gemming look? is askmrrobot a decent place to follow for that?

 

 

As more of a general thing, is 10 ilvl average enough to make a big difference in dps? (that's about what separates me from the rest of my guildies)

Okay, I didn't know that it was your first time. :) If you have the possibility could you post for example a Malkorok fight log, which is more or less a Patchwerk style fight? It is pretty hard to analyze the other few fights than protectors due to teleporting to other realms, random incoming adds etc etc.

 

Snapshotting means when you get an intellect proc, you refresh your mage bomb immediately and you let it expire fully. Unless, you get another even higher int proc, then you trefresh it again early.

 

In this case when you have to "runaway" you should either choose Ice flows and use the charges on frostbolt while running away. Other option is use Blazing Speed reposition urself quickly and keep on DPSing. OR, use blink (alternatively with Rapid Displacement) reposition yourself and keep on your rotation. Another possibility is, save up your frozen orb for movement phases (if the fight includes one) and when you have to move, use frozen orb and use up the generated FoF charges.

There many many better options, than just spamming Ice lance. That's a bit lame tbh :P

 

Not having Alter Time in your rotation is a pretty major problem... That spell can extend all your trinket, heroism, FoF, BF, etcetc. buffs by 6... SIX seconds :)

 

Don't go for 4pc bonus. It's very bad for us. :) If you have the chance, off-tier items with better secondary stats (haste, mastery)

 

Yes, those trinkets have a huge impact on your DPS.

As well as 10 item levels is a gap ofc. I myself am behind 10 ilevels of my guild since I wasn't playing for 1 month, and being at the bottom of the meters feel bad indeed. But with proper playstyle I can usually beat 1-2 much better geared guildmates ^^

Reforge and gemming looks solid. :) Although, if you are a really mix/max person, you could swap your alchemy prof for engineering for the extra int buff, that could also be extended by Alter Time. :)

Ask Mr. Robot is a great tool and you can follow its advice. In doubt you can always ask for a confirmation, but you often see people criticizing Ask Mr Robot, when in fact these people fail to understand something

Thanks for the replies thus far everyone, we ran the first 3 wings of flex last night (wednesday is a non raiding night) and while not the trinket i really wanted i did managed to grab one - http://us.battle.net/wow/en/item/104793

 

I didnt realize the 4p was not worth it, in that case ill probably keep my help and then look for some good shoulders.

 

 

I think i will extend my addon to track my trinket/meta gem procs so i can try snapshotting.

Still a lot of room for improvement but I ranked in 3 fights, I've never ranked in a fight before and I got 3 tonight so it is a step in the right direction and I managed to hold my own.

Quick question, what are your thoughts on when I should stop putting stats into haste? 50.26% with just frost armor and when my meta procs my frostbolt is 1.02s and that's without the shadow priest spell haste buff
