Good allies are hard to find, but don’t worry—we’ve got you covered in Battle for Azeroth. Meet two new Allied Races that will become available over the course of your adventures in the new expansion, the Dark Iron dwarves and Mag’har orcs, and learn a bit about the racial traits currently in development.

ALLIANCE: DARK IRON DWARVES

Known for their fiery tempers and fierce determination, Dark Iron dwarves have a turbulent history with the other clans. A failed coup in Ironforge ignited the War of the Three Hammers, and many of the Dark Iron once fought in the service of Ragnaros the Firelord. Though one faction is pledged to Queen-Regent Moira Thaurissan, others refuse to stand alongside their kin. The Alliance seeks a united Dark Iron clan to harness the power of Azerite and aid their struggle against the Horde.

  • Mole MachineMole Machine: These digging devices can transport their masters to new locations.

HORDE: MAG’HAR ORC

For untold generations, the orc clans of Draenor battled one another in endless war. But when Gul'dan offered them the blood of his demonic masters, the disparate tribes of Mag'har—the orcish word for "uncorrupted"—refused the dark bargain and banded together to drive out the Burning Legion. United under the leadership of Grommash Hellscream, the Mag'har pledged to one day repay Azeroth's heroes for aiding their cause. As war against the Alliance intensifies, the Horde must call upon the might of the Mag'har to seize victory.

Racial Traits

  • Ancestral Call: Mag’har orcs can call upon the powers of their ancestors to assist in battle.
  • Open Skies: While outdoors, Mag’har orcs have increased flight speed.
  • Sympathetic Vigor: The health of the Mag’har orcs’ pets is increased.
  • Savage Blood: Poisons, diseases, and curses affect Mag’har orcs for a shorter duration.

We’ll have more information on how to recruit these new allies in a future update; for now, those with Battle for Azeroth beta access will be able to create one of these new Allied Races within character creation screen and begin testing.

The Dark Iron racials are way too good. Besides the fact they look amazing.

eh imo all allied races have funnier and/or stronger and/or more useful racials than old races. Between portals, mailboxes, increased mount speed, it all looks much better thanwhat we had.

Aye. A self cleanse isn't unheard of, but one that gives you a buff? Taking less physical damage as a passive? Increased move speed for mythic dungeon runs and so on? This kind of stuff is a min maxer's dream / nightmare

The dark iron dwarves have really exceeded my expectations. I have always been a fan of dwarves, their architecture and armor/weapon design in basically every fantasy universe that features them but i didn't expect to be so hyped for the dark irons. Even the female dark irons look pretty badass with some great tattoo/hair options.

Blizzard have with the allied races done a really great job of taking something that has for example always just been described as "just a brown orc" or "just an ash-colored dwarf with red eyes" and then making them something more, making them more visually distinctive and unique. There are two complaints i have, i wished for a ram for the dark irons, we basically have no new rams since vanilla. There's one visually updated ram and that one is from arena/RBGs so that one is off the table for most people.

Second complaint would be that the quest lines to aquire the allied races have so far been pretty lackluster. The addition of the allied races have also really shined a light on how messy and broken the old world leveling is. This was the danger of reworking all of the vanilla leveling for one expansion. Now nothing makes sense, where we used to get self-contained quest lines in the old zones that dealt with the unique issues of that zone now most quest lines has something to do with the overarching story of deathwing/the twilight's hammer cult and their impact on the world, also some horde/alliance conflicts that have been resolved for a long time. It is especially bad when the old leaders and lore characters show up. Like Garrosh/Sylvanas etc.

The old world leveling needs to be cleaned up. Especially now when everyone is going through it again to level their allied races. Right now the old leveling is a complete mess and it's just not a good look for blizzard. If started playing WoW today i'd be so confused leveling a new character and i'm not sure i'd stick around. Especially not when new MMO's like FFXIV and ESO have a much "cleaner" and straight forward story leveling up without all the time traveling back and forth.

@Hjaldren

I see your point, but some of those lore problems during questing have been partly resolved. For instance, you do end up with Garrosh getting destroyed by Thrall in the questline, so at least you know that "chapter" has been closed off. It is however not nearly always consistent. i.e. in MoP you're introduced to the Sha but a really great chunk of that lore is behind "MoP max level content" (mantis rep farming where you start realizing it's an old god behind the Sha etc).

Then again there's also content referring to content no longer in the game, such as Vanessa VanCleef referring to her father. Or contradicting pieces of lore (Which is still quite contradicting today) where Sylvanas uses the Valkyr to sustain undead ranks, but in Legion she states that "her people" have no way of propagating (Resulting in her deal with Helya)

It's a very inconsistent mess, the result of retconning too much, open ended stories (Neptulon and the Battlemaiden for instance) or some stories told in quests and other stories told in raids or dungeons.

Good luck convincing a company who's sole purpose is pleasing people with briefcases and hidden faces.

I'm just really pleased with Mahgar orcs. I was a big garrosh fan and I'll be able to go full fan boy with tusks of mannoroth and and gorehowl from og kara. Sad that the data mined leggo gorehowl that was supposed to be in wod didn't happen, would be an awesome transmog :)

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
