[WoD] Warrior lvl 100 talents

Recommended Posts

Passive: When you whirlwind or thunderclap, Whirling blades continue to spin around you for 30 sec. These blades do 1000 damage every 1.00 seconds to all enemies in 8 yard.

40 yr range, 1s cast, 1m cd: Throw a whirling axe at the target location that inflicts 3000 damage to enemies within 8 yards ever 1 sec. Last 16 sec.

Arms & Fury, Masochism, instant: Deal damage to yourself equal to 20% of your maximum health, and gaining 30 rage.

Protection: Gladiator stance, instant, 1.5 sec cooldown: a dauntless combat stance. Increase all damage dealt by 20%. Also causes shield slam to consume Shield barrier as Additional Damage, and have an increase chance to critically strike equal to your critical block chance. (Replaces Defensive Stance)

-----

Above are the 3 level 100 talents as they were previewed at BlizzCon. Of course, the damage values on them cannot be analyzed because they were only previews, not at all balanced, and we muct take into account the item squish that will happen with WoD.

Here's my quick analysis of these talents:

Blade Barrier: We would basically get our own version of Monk's RJW. It would probably be useless against single target, and even against multiple targets I don't think it would be that valuable, since we Thunderclap/Whirlwind more than every 30 seconds usually. Whereas this leads me to believe the damage part of this talent might be underwhelming, it might be useful for tanks when there is a continuous flow of adds entering a fight, maybe. Even then, I do not see this talent getting much use in its current incarnation.

Ravager: ugh. Cast times as a warrior, I already dislike this talent. In its current version, it sounds like a ranged Bladestorm, and will probably be our go-to choice on AoE fights. It still currently feels like this is only a 2nd version of bladestorm and not an entirely different talent to me, which makes it not very attractive to me.

Extreme Measures (DPS): Unless Blizzard plans to change the current rage model for warriors, this talent is blatantly unbalanced and overpowered. The fact that it has no cooldown will make it so that we will need to spam it to generate as much rage as possible, leading to a monstrous DPS increase. If it stays in its current incarnation, DPS warriors will have to take damage to do decent DPS, which, in my opinion, isn't a very good gameplay design.

Extreme Measures (Prot): I do remember Celestalon (the guy who now answers the kind of questions GC used to answer on Twitter, if you don't know him) writing that Gladiator Stance was a talent that would let warriors DPS in Prot spec (Though I cannot for the life of me find that tweet again). This sounds wrong on a lot of levels. I know a lot of warriors asked for a Sword and Board DPS spec for a long time, but putting it into a talent would simply remove one of the top tier talents for the actual prot warriors. Right now it sounds like "DPS warriors, choose one of those 4 talents, but you, prot guys, you only actually have 2 talents to help you tanking". Plus, this simply isn't the kind of stuff talents are supposed to do. If the talent actually doesn't turn prot into a full on DPS spec it might be more acceptable, but it would still feel wrong, since, as I said above, it would only give 2 options to Tank warriors.

To summarize, my opinion is that right now, we have 2 underwhelming talents and one that is completely unbalanced and wrongly designed. Remember, however, that this is only my opinion, and that these are very early previews of the lelvel 100 talents, and that they will very likely change before the WoD beta even launches.

What do you guys think about our (tentative) level 100 talents?

I made this thread to show our talents back during BlizzCon, and then totally forgot to update it and give my opinion on the talents. This is now fixed!

I'd very much like to hear other warrior's opinions on these talents. Am I the only one that finds them really underwhelming and nowhere near as game changing as some other classes' level 100 talents?

For prot, I'd kick a bunny in the teeth for Blade Barrier. Having a constant source of AoE would be incredibly useful. Not only would it help pick up constantly spawning adds, it just adds that little bit of stickiness between TC CDs. Currently, not factoring talents, I have a way of generating AoE threat without moving only once every 6 seconds. That's no problem once I have vengeance and solid aggro, but it can make picking up adds dicey. That's one of the main reason I actually dislike vengeance. At current ilvls, a strong DPS can rip threat off a strong tank if the tank has no veng, but if they do, there's no problem. This really only comes up with adds. DPS have this mindset that threat is magical and the first time I sneeze on something it should be stuck to me forever. Most of the time, they don't even let me sneeze, causing me vengeance starvation which means I have to blow CDs I'd rather time better. It's not insurmountable, but it's a hassle. The base tank damage is nothing and has not scaled like DPS damage has, but top end tank damage is unreasonable. I love pulling big, big numbers, but I'd rather hear "how did you survive that!?" than "your numbers are so broken!"

Ravager: everything Rage said. I'm against this talent alone for the cast time. The ranged portion could be interesting, but I'd much rather have my AoE centered around me. Can't tell you how many times I put down DnD or Consecrate on my alts and then promptly have to pull things out of it.

Extreme Measures? BOO! Hiss!

If this is a full-on sword and board DPS spec... no. Make another spec, don't do this to my spec. I feel like they had something like this a while ago with another class. Hmm... let me think... bearkitties? Yeah, it was interesting, but it seems to work much better as two separate specs. Why split feral into two and then make prot a tank/DPS spec? It makes no sense to me. If it isn't full-on DPS, then it just encourages tanks to scumbag. This isn't good damage. This isn't a solution to vengeance. All it does it hurts tanks. Sure, it means I could use this after a tank swap to turn my full-vengeance SBars into damage, but that's not useful from a tanking perspective. That does nothing to help me be more effective as a tank and it is simply lackluster. Part of me thinks it is trying to be the new incarnation of Riposte, but it takes what is amazing about the avoidance build and turns it into scumbagging. I very much disapprove.

One thing I forgot to mention, and I've edited the post to reflect it now, is that Gladiator Stance replaces Defensive Stance, so once you choose this talent for prot, you cannot effectively tank.

As far as it's concerned, discussing the talents beyond a "hey that's a cool/stupid idea" is really pointless.

Also lolwarriorlifetap.

I'd personally take blade barrier if they were released tomorrow, outside of any theorycrafting that will be done to prove one will be better. Cast times are gay and a spammable 20% health life tap would get me killed/draw the ire of healers,

Mostly agree with Jalopy, for actual dps in a raid blade barrier is the only one to look at.  Except I would totally be that tank who only uses his shield as a weapon, because I need to farm valor faster.

I do agree with this, and since there is a near 100% chance that all these talents will chance before release, the whole post and discussion related to it will probably be made useless within a couple months. Still, I believe it's worth having them here if only to see how ridiculous they currently are and how they will change as the release date of WoD gets closer.

I usually sim my characters to get the best possible results. I enjoy the process quite a lot and since I reached 120, I wanted to find out the best build of the spec. (Note, I didn't want to find out what to play, but rather how my own build fares in comarison.) I rarely mind a 1-2% difference. If it goes above 2%, I really mind a change. What this thread is about is mainly to bring something in the attention of those who help making the class guides, especially the talent choices. To my surprise, I was awed to find out that certain talents outperform previous "Standard" choices in the endgame, probably due to the stat squish.

The Frost go-to build (top dps) would probably be along the lines of <Icy Talons / Cold Heart - Runic Attenuation - Frozen Pulse - Gathering Storm - Breath of Sindragosa>. What I found out primarily was that after the removal of legendaries, Cold Heart severely underperforms at most given situations resulting in a major dps drop due to the low mastery. Gathering Storm also suffers from the same problem and most of the times, Frostwyrm's Fury is better overall. The biggest surprise of them all, however, was that Inexorable Assault overperforms quite a lot, and is the first reason why I made the topic. I then started simming with the above in mind and I came across a build that some would not consider on par with top dog builds around the meta, which is the use of Horn of Winter which overperforms both its other two options when using the Breath build. Talent Sim can be seen here. Another intresting thing, which I loved, was that the 2nd best build uses Obliteration as a lvl 100 talent and no other build surpassed it (Other than the first one, obviously). So, I encourage frost players out there to give their other, less common talents a try. To the class guide author(s), I believe that the two "underdog" talents will earn their spot in the class guides.

Thank you for your time reading this.

Hi all, long-time lurker, first time poster. So I'm a bit of a new 110 Paladin player and I've been interested in the reason why Justicar's Vengeance is only good for solo content. I've been using it in dungeons and it works like a charm. I'm a bit of a selfish DPS, but I've seen an increase in using it compared to the other two talents in this tier. The reason: Crusade.
When I run my rotation and Crusade is ready, I build up 5 Holy Power the normal way and then after using Crusade, I use Justicar's Vengeance to spend it all. After that, I use Wake of Ashes for another 5 Holy Power and a second Justicar's Vengeance. At this point I have 10 stacks of the damage/haste buff and it's only taken a few seconds to do.

I don't really use any of the other talents, so I feel like it'd be a waste to choose them in this tier.

      Hello,
I was wondering wich mage spec is the best pve spec.
I've ask a couple of people and in general fire mage is the spec to go they say, but there were also some who said that arcane and frost get some major buffs on the hotfix wednesday, so now I don't know wich spec to choose.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

      Hi guys,

I have kind of a hard question here. It's about the choice between the talent lvl45, and more importantly between Energizing Elixir and Power Strikes.
Now i know those two talents are pretty much worth. I tried them both, and both left me with different issues, for which i need some explanations.

      For Energizing Elixir :
We all agree that to maximize it's effect, it's better to use it when you're out of Chi and Energy. The thing is, to be out of Chi AND Energy, you must've used all your spells, and so they are all on CD. So after using your Energizing Elixir, should you spam your Blackout Kick and loose the Combo stacks ? or use 1 Blackout Kick then 1 Tiger Palm to keep the stacks up even if you loose 1 Chi generation ? or just, what is the best thing to do after the Energizing Elixir ?

      For Power Strikes :
For this i found something on the forum, but i don't know if it's worth. So, I sometimes had 2 chi and no Energy with Rising Sun Kick and Fists of Fury on CD, should i then use 2 Blackout Kicks and loose the combo stacks (coz' if i use only 1 kick i don't have enough Energy for a Tiger Palm after the GCD) ? or use 1 Blackout Kick and wait for the Energy for a Tiger Palm as i said before ? or (as i saw on the forum) use 1 Blackout Kick, tick once with the Crackling Thunder thing and Blackout again ?

There, i hope i made my point clear enough to understand and i'm sure others have the same "issue". It's more of a Theory Craft matter, but i think with the Mastery being so important and the stats increase with Legion coming, this may have an importance.
