Flying in Battle for Azeroth

Similar to Legion, flying won't be accessible right away in the new expansion and you must complete two Pathfinder achievements to be able to fly. The first part can be completed right away, whereas the second part will be added to the game later.

I don't mind gating flying behind an achievement. In fact, I think it's quite cool that you have to have seen everything and done most of the outdoor world content before you unlock flying. However, I really don't like that it is also time gated; you need to grind the rep for a few weeks (Sigh, I remember Blizzard telling us years ago that they wanted to get rid of the reputation system...), you need to wait for part 2 (Probably a year down the line like with Legion) and then do that too, which is likely to also to be timegated behind another reputation grind.

I really wouldn't have cared if they made the achievement require a lot more things, and then not have that timegate. I really wouldn't have cared if the extra content coming down the line (Such as with broken shore) require their _own_ achievement to fly there. i.e. part 1 requires all dungeons done on at least mythic normal difficulty (Most of these were requirements for professions in Legion anyway!), 50 world quests, and doing the Macarena conga line in Dalaran.

There, rant over.

Heeeeeeeeeeeey Macarena!

At least it makes flying feel like a worthy achievement on its own rather than something you are handed.

That kind of takes the piss out of it when you've already been able to beforehand. It doesn't really count. It doesn't feel like something you've "earned", but just something you kind of have to do because it'll feel like garbage without.

The real way of going about it now would be to design a world where flying is more or less needed, and they're not doing that.

Seems decent and stuff you'll get naturally, now I hope they don't drop the ball on part 2 like they did in Legion... That was a mess.

I agree with you very much - but there are many, many who never do Mythic - shall they never be able to fly? (Or not until the expansion after BfA when they can solo them.) It's far easier to skip parts of Professions.

Pathfinder is fine. Exploring everything makes total sense, and this one just shows completing a story line and earning some rep. Simple.

The execution of requiring part two is not! I don't mind the gated behind two, but since that can take up to a year before they even give us the chance to earn it, why not give us "basic" flying after part 1 rather than making us wait for ANY flying. At part one you've already "experienced" most of the content. If there is more areas unlocked go ahead and lock it again behind something new like you did for Argus. That's an area we don't "control" so the skies are dangerous.

Perhaps something like "Complete at least 20 out of these 40 achievements" and include a broader range of things? I'm not interested in pet battles at all for example, but that might just be the category that people would like that don't do any mythic dungeons? Any of the optional professions such as fishing/cooking? Discover 50 items hidden on the expansion continent? Reach PVP rank 9 billion? That way we can all progress towards the pathfinder achievement our own ways.

Or is that too much creative thinking for the linear beast that is Blizzard?

Blizzard puts these things behind time gates and rep grinds to make you play longer on a game that has a monthly subscription cost. More play = more pay.

(Flying also makes leveling, questing, etc much faster so less play time again)

My problem with Pathfinder is that they do the Part 1/2 thing. Part 1 should be enough, I don't want to wait 1 year til patch 8.x to see what I'll have to do to unlock flying.

you can solo all Mythic dungeons by now using WQ gear, so, isn't something dificult to do...

i enjoy the feeling you have to "earn" flyong by doing a bunch of stuff and to be honest grinding the rep wont be that hard anyway with the rep u prob get from questing on in the differents zones its one of the things that makes me spend more time playing the game instead of feeling bored ^_^

And with the release of part 2, there will be plenty of people complaining they haven't done part 1 yet, as we had in Legion.

This is part of the reason I quit playing WoW. I love flying. It feels epic. But gating it behind a part one works for me. Gating it behind a part two that isn't released until a year later and then immediately negated 3 months after that with the new content having no flight is NOT ok and drove me away. And they are repeating the same mistake. They never learn.

With "you" you must have ment someone else than me. I'm not a bad player, but far from good. Average as far as I see. Well, dared by you I tried Court of Stars - just heroic... no, I wait till next expansion.

And you suckers keep playing this game and giving them money even though they take things from you over and over and over.

If you keep playing WoW at this point its because you enjoy the "reset" and new grind. Similar to how people keep playing Path of Exile or any other number of games where you need to reboot from scratch in each new season.

No game can give you something of everlasting value, in the end the enduring things you take from them are (good, hopefully) memories and maybe some online friendships!

I think the “reset” thing though kills more people from playing than it keeps.  I’m still on Icy Veins for other games at this point but gave up WoW half way through SOO during MOP.  Why?  No flying was a big part of it, having no raiding guilds on my server was another and I got so burned out on the grind.

I doubt too many people that have been playing since vanilla or TBC have more than 2-5 friends left from that far back.  No one knows the best players on their sever anymore by name, everyone is a gear score.

I suppose I sound like a cranky bitter old timer and that’s fine.  I’m not viewing WoW through nostalgia saying “If they only changed this I would come back.”  WoW ran its course with me like any other game, 400+ days played will do that to most people.

That's fair enough, I would have burned out long time ago myself if I hadn't done the one thing that you (and so many others) missed out on: server transfer to the best (via wowprogress score) realm of my faction at the time.

There I could finally invest in finding a good guild (same since mid/end WotLK) and a group of people (still 6ish that have been around from those times) worth continuing playing with over the years and the 5 expansions and over 15 raid tiers since.

But sticking around on a dead realm and watching your friends all leave the game is 100% a death sentence in this kind of game for sure, content has keep a good quality since with ups and downs but the main reason to keep playing is the community.

i love they took flying away.  it means i buy the game in 2 years time on black friday for 16 pounds and pay for 4 months gameat end contenty cause flying will be achievable.  I save 1 year 14 months of blizzard subscription fees and get to not become adicted like i was before.  So thk you blizzard for removing flying and my adiction that was warcraft.  Yes been doing this since they took flying away in drainor.  I wont let blizzard dictate when they feel like bringing back flying, either its achievable from the start without patches or ill wait till end content.  I know alot of people that feel the same way.  Still thats like 200 pounds less they get from me per new game.  lol gz blizzard.  Still at least you can buy flying mounts from their store even if you cant use them in the new game for a year or 2.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
