Diablo 3 Coming to Nintendo Switch

Recommended Posts

AgSM3vu.jpg

As some expected, Diablo 3 will be coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. There was a bit of a leak today, as Forbes published an article that was scheduled for release tomorrow and then quickly took it down, but Kotaku caught the leak.

Unfortunately this is probably one of the "several Diablo projects" Nevalistis mentioned in a teasing tweet a while ago, so it remains to be seen what else exactly we have to look forward to in the franchise and if there will be any significant new announcements at BlizzCon.

Meanwhile, the Switch edition, already released under the Eternal Collection for other platforms, will cost $59,99 and include all current content, meaning Reaper of Souls, Rise of the Necromancer and all other patches released so far, as well as a (presumably exclusive) armor set that looks like Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda. As appropriate for the Switch, the game will also have many co-op options, from 4 players playing on the same console, to each player playing on a separate Switch but without needing to be online, and then of course, a regular online mode.

Also, this is the first Blizzard game in 15 years to arrive on a Nintendo platform (with the last one being the "Blizzard's Classic Arcade" pack for the Gameboy Advance, including Rock 'n' Roll Racing, Blackthorne and Lost Vikings).

We'll get the official announcement tomorrow (presumably) and hopefully we'll get to see the Gangondorf armor look then.

Thanks to MMOChampion for catching the news.

So we're getting Link, Zelda and Ganondorf as the next Heroes for Heroes of the Storm, RIGHT?

I thought Diablo 2 was getting a makeover or did I dream that, it’s never mentioned in the ‘several projects’ articles.

There was something regarding a job opening to "modernize" Diablo 2; It might be a makeover/remake/remaster or, more disappointingly, patch support so it works better on 64-bit systems or windows 11+ and perhaps other operating systems. Nobody knows, maybe not even Blizzard (Wouldn't be the first time they decided against a former idea they had)

Quiz time ?
Order these events chronologically from the earliest to latest:
A) Zelda added to Heroes of the Storm
B) The Lost Vikings getting a rework
C) I reach the platinum rank
D) Heroes of the Storm 2: The Storm Strikes Back is released

Spoiler

(correct answer: A, D, C, B)

As a Switch owner and Blizzard fan, I think I just felt so much joy over this that I barfed up a rainbow.

This is going to be potentially amazing, provided that Blizzard doesn't do the fatal mistake of forcing you to be online to play. The greatest thing about the Switch is the ability to play games on a long bus ride for example, and it would just suck that you'd have to be chained at home to play this game.

I can understand it being needed for the multiplayer experience, and likely to keep track of their internal things, but they could make you able to create a character to play through the campaign mode whilst offline.

We'll see tomorrow, but here's hoping. Going to get this right off the bat if it does have an offline mode for sure. ^_^

You can play offline on the Xbox so I don't see why it would be any different.

Fairly disappointed. But I don't know why they are going to sell the game for $60. Should be $40 for how old the game is, and the fact that there are no more major patches or big game changes.

But if it helps Blizzard get the funds for their other projects I'm down for another port.

Bullshit about diablo. Is it good for nintendo i think no. Diablo must be forever pc style as like 2. Ah needed too. All other news mispoint for me. Diablo 3 has good game character design and atmospheric but worse game playstyle, not many items epic. Boring set items boring map design for me. Diablo 4 designers needed to look at a little PoE.

With how D3 is designed it was a smart idea to Port the game to different consoles than just PC. You're tapping into a much larger community than you would just going for PC users.

As for PoE, that's a bit of an odd statement. Diablo and PoE are two very different games despite being in the same genre. If Diablo 4 were to exist, I think they would be fine developing a system that combines both 2 and 3.

Blizzard firstly founded for entertaintment and they made good games years ago. Now i see this brand follow the money it is not funny for us in some games. I know they want to bring their games to console as like Destiny but their games nature not compatible except overwatch new era. I dont know maybe i think wrong...

Blizzard already stated that they want to try something completely new for Diablo 4. Not another top down RPG. They want to create a new gameplay experience. Nothing specific has been said yet but they could imagine a first person game like Skyrim or even replace the RPG elements with something else.

But they are sure that they want Diablo 4 with a different genre.

In my opinion that gives Blizzard more opportunities. Not being limited by a certain gameplay style is the best way to create something beyond imagination... and maybe something that blows our minds. I seriuosly don't want another top down Action RPG to be honest.

What is the problem with Diablo being on consoles? Also, you do realize Diablo I was released for the original Playstation, right?

PoE is the boring one, the game feels uninspired and unpolished, with no personality; I honestly couldn't play it for more than 10 minutes. I know opinions are opinions, but if anything Blizzard needs to stray away from other games of the genre when they finally released Diablo 4; they are known for freshing up the formula of whatever game genre they touch on. Looking at PoE for "inspiration" is the last thing they need to do.

Diablo 3 plays so much better on consoles as a twin-stick game instead of using the mouse.

Debatable... I find the game far more enjoyable on P.C because the aiming is more accute to my liking.

I think it's cool to see Blizzard getting back with Ninty.

I dont think I'll be paying $60 for this as I've already logged thousands of hours on PC D3.

BUT REALLY,  let's talk about that Blizzard Classics Pack for GBA, and how AMAZING that would be ported to the Switch!!

Why boring? Diablo is boring because it has low item options for characters. We need more! more! items . For me items are more important than the game design.

The aim is just a very minor setback. But you also get the ability to roll with the right stick. For those who miss the challenge in Diablo3 this would be a much better choice. The controls are completely overhauled for consoles and you get a better feel for the environment and the world by navigating with a joystick. It felt incredibly more comfortable on consoles.

But even though I tried it. I didnt switch because I dont want to leave my PC account with hundreds of hours behind xD sad life

Well the Dodge roll mechanic was implemented to help out with escaping. Even if the joystick allows for easy moving, ranged characters of all can find it much harder to escape dire situations due to the aim assist that is also provided.

Imagine if Dodge roll was added to the P.C version, I'm pretty sure most characters wouldn't need an ability to escape or negate damage. The mechanic would be abused greatly.

It seems something went very wrong with Season 33, as it it just... ended a while ago. Players took to the forums as there was no early warning, other than a server message around an hour before it all ended. PezRadar responded clarifying that this is not intended and that Blizzard are looking into what happened.
      Season End (Source)
Heard and got some pings while I’ve been out and I have production checking on this early end. This shouldn’t have ended today so something is funky. Will provide an update once I hear back.

A brand new season arrives in Diablo 3 next month! Blizzard have the full preview ready so let's take a look at the cosmetic rewards, season journey, Haedrig's Gift sets, and more!
      Season 33 (Source)
Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 33: Shades of the Nephalem. Starting on October 25 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Shades of the Nephalem theme, which first debuted with Season 22. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below. Also, Season 32 will officially come to an end on October 20. Seasonal Journey
      Season Theme
      Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Season Journey Rewards
      Seasonal Conquest
      Haedrig’s Gift
      Patch 2.7.8
      Season Theme
The shadows, they are moving, and they seem… animated. Like they have a will of their own. Whatever this trickery is, perhaps you can use it to your advantage. Let’s see what the demons say when you fight side by side with your own shadow! Shadows of the Past: Activating a Shrine/Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class, who will come with a randomly chosen 1 of 3 predetermined builds. This clone's power will scale with your character and will last for 1 minute (unless your character dies). See this article for the shadow clone variations that can spawn when activating. Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season. This fourth slot will have the choices of the first 3 slots but will not stack with any of them, providing additional flexibility to your build. Return to Top Season Cosmetic Rewards
Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to any who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 33, this means awards originally available from Season 9 are returning to the Season Journey. However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve already participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth in the Trial of Tempests to earn the Stupendous Contraption pet and the Industrial Portrait Frame.
In addition to the Chest and Gloves slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Pandemonium portraits, and the cute and craggily Rocky pet first introduced in Season 9. Return to Top Season Journey Rewards
If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of five: Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a Level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete 2 Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at Level 70 in under fifteen seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Treasure Goblins outside of Nephalem Rifts will sometimes open portals to Greed’s domain, The Vault. Take U There: Reach Greater Rift Level 60 Solo. Greater Rift keystones can be obtained from any Nephalem Rift guardian. Power Amplification: Use Kanai’s Cube to augment an Ancient Legendary item with a Level 50+ gem. Cubic Reconfiguration: Use Kanai’s Cube to reforge a Legendary item. Return to Top Seasonal Conquest
Want to prepare your Conquest plan for Season 33? Here are the challenges you’ll face: For Curses!/Stars Align, pick any Cursed Chest event that requires killing monsters and defeat over 350 or more at level 70 on Torment X or higher. Also returning for Season 33 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at Level 70 in under an hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped. And lastly we'll be bringing back Speed Demon/Need for Speed, meaning you'll need to beat a Torment X Nephalem Rift at Level 70 in 2 minutes. Best of luck! Return to Top Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works: Completing Acts II, III, and IV of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely! The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 33: Barbarian - Might of the Earth Crusader - Thorns of the Invoker Demon Hunter - The Shadow's Mantle Monk - Monkey King's Garb Witch Doctor - Raiment of the Jade Harvester Wizard - Firebird's Finery Necromancer - Grace of Inarius Return to Top Patch 2.7.8
Our next patch goes live on October 22 and introduces quality-of-life updates for demon slayers on Mac. New Mac Executables/Mac Native Silicon and Intel: These updates will allow Diablo III to run on new versions of the macOS. PC Experience Stability: This PTR is open to both Mac and PC players. While the focal point of the 2.7.8 PTR is to test technical updates for Mac, we want PC users to monitor their playing experience as well. If you experience any stability issues or difficulties in connecting with Mac players, please give us that feedback. Return to Top
