Battle for Azeroth Patch 8.1: The Tide Whispers Leak

Recommended Posts

A reddit post revealed some interesting information about Patch 8.1 that were supposed to be unveiled at Gamescom, but Blizzard confirmed there's no dedicated WoW panel and it appears they only plan to reveal Warbringers: Azshara.

Update

No plans to have a dedicated WoW panel this year. Warbringers: Azshara will be revealed at 18:15 CEST on Friday, August 24.

We do not have a dedicated World of Warcraft panel at gamescom this year as such.

We instead have a series of other activities such as Island Expeditions showcases with 2 top German guilds battling it out, a Battle for Azeroth cosplay showcase, Video Games Live performances featuring a live rendition of the sea shanty from Warbringers: Jaina, and the reveal of Warbringers: Azshara.

Warbringers: Azshara will be shown directed after the Battle for Azeroth cosplay showcase which will be streamed live from 18:15 CEST on Friday, 24th August.

We posted a blog yesterday that covers all the WoW related stuff happening at gamescom this year:
https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-gb/news/22316739/world-of-warcraft-at-gamescom-2018

While we can't verify the credibility of the leaks, it will be interesting to see what awaits us in Battle for Azeroth in the near future. We've also added some more details by redditor leakysneaky from here.

Patch 8.1 Leaks

  • Blizzard is supposed to announce that WoW has 10+ million active subscribers.
  • Patch 8.1 is called "The Tide Whispers" and comes with Nazjatar, a new raid with Azshara, and a total of 9 bosses. We should also get 2 new dungeons:
    • The Shadowlands - focuses on Bwonsamdi & Vol'jin lore.
    • Nazjatar: Sea of Stars
  • Crestfall & Zul'Dare are new outdoor questing zones and each faction has their own story.
    • Crestfall is an Alliance zone, populated by isolationist Kul Tirans. Reaching Exalted reputation with the new faction unlocks Kul Tiran Humans.
    • Zul'Dare is the Horde zone. The island held an ancient holy site for the Zandalari, the Halls of Loa, but had been taken and settled by Kul Tirans in the past. Horde players must retake the island and probably reach Exalted with the faction in order to unlock Zandalari Trolls.
  • The patch trailer should be narrated by N'zoth.
  • Kul Tiran Humans & Zandalari Trolls will be gated behind Exalted reputation standing with the Nazjatar Resistance faction associated with the new quest hub.
  • Blizzard will unveil a Genn Greymane cinematic, similar to Old Soldier. It's supposed to feature Genn, Katherine Proudmoore, and Taelia Fordragon. It focuses on family and flashes back to his son in Gilneas. Baby Jaina and Katherine also make an appearance. The cinematic ends with Genn pulling up a chair in front of Saurfang in his Stockades cell.
  • The end of the presentation shows off Anduin and Sylvanas in her banshee form fighting. More information is probably going to be revealed at BlizzCon.

The game files currently contain a map called "Nazjatar" and Blizzard plans to unveil the Azshara Animated Short soon, we'll have to wait until Friday to see what's next!

  • Thanks 1

Blizzard is supposed to announce that WoW subs are back at 10+ Mio.

I'm sorry but I don't understand this. Can anyone explain it for me?

Means that there are more than 10 Million people paying the monthly suscription again. Been a while since last time wow went over 10M. I even thought they decided no tto communicate on the number of players cause it wasn't fancy enough anymore.

Oh Dear.   Not sure we're ready for this.

I highly doubt subscription number will be 10M+

Till this date this expansion has changes that has  increased dislike among players toward BFA.

Maybe in your own view.  From what I've seen, there's a noticeable increase in players on my server, I've heard/read mostly positive things since launch (where players are actually experiencing the content now), and I even have an old player friend that returned this past week after not playing since BC!

I am not buying it. Adding two new dungeons, two new zones (and something about a quest hub?) and a raid in a single patch? When 8.1 was also going to have some class changes?

Poster deleted this from Reddit, so it might have been fake. Although another rep grind for Kul Tiran Humans and Zandalari Trolls wouldn't surprise me. Many people probably won't be happy about this, since some wanted to play (or at least work on unlocking them) from the start of expansion, now some are going to feel too burned out to play them.

Crestfall and Zul'Dare are some locations that appeared in Warcraft 2, and should have been somewhere near Kul Tiras, so adding them is not out of question, but it seems a bit much for a single patch. Nazjatar could be a raid with Azshara as final boss.

I mean... in legion we got 3 questing zones in one patch, with a dungeon at least

As Battlemage pointed out, that's just your view.

And i think, the only negative opinions arise around the fact that hardcore gamers rush through the content to quick. And the few things that are hard to grind out immediately, like professions or reputation, are not motivation enough for those players.

And those players are just a few. I have sooooooooo frickin many friends back at wow again, some of which i thought would never touch the game again (after cata, or Wod). And i can totally understand that. Legion for me was the best Expansion (not only style wise, but especially gameplay wise) and i think BfA will top that easily, from what i have experienced. And on top of my own experience, there is always the "faction war" theme, that is polarizing and exciting. IMO the top reason why people give it a chance again.

I believe that the player numbers are rising, and that can just be good. For all sides.

Let's see what they are at a year from now.

Your evidence is just as anecdotal. Blizz is going to hype their product, regardless of how truthful they are being.

I'm already disappointed that I'll have to grind yet another reputation to exalted in order to get the Kul Tirans humans & Zandalari trolls available :C

When will this reputation grind end! /s

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
