Hi, 

 

i am looking to start playing wow again and just wondering if my laptop will run the new expansion smoothly? My laptop specs are below - 

Intel Core i5-7200U Dual Core Processor, 17.3" Full HD IPS Screen, Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1000GB HDD, DVD RW, Dedicated GeForce GTX 950M 4GB Graphics

 

if not, what sort of upgrades are required?

It depends on the content. You will definitely see FPS drops below 30 in some areas on higher view distance settings, as well as larger raids. Those are very CPU-intense situations, and laptop CPUs in general aren't great for that (too few cores, too low frequencies). Your i5-7200U is about as fast as a seven year old low-end dualcore desktop CPU.

Graphics should be fine though, since you can tweek them pretty heavily to accomodate the GPU. But your CPU is gonna be a bottleneck for sure.

Normally gaming on that laptop wouldn't be an issue, but WoW is a special child and really wants a beefy CPU. If you have the cash, go with a desktop PC. Something like an Intel i5-8600k or a Ryzen 2600X. Graphics would depend on what resolution you wanna play on, a 1050 Ti would be enough for 1080p60.
