Blizzard Announces Diablo Game for Mobile Devices

Blizzard is a multi billion dollar company and this is all we got after 4 years? Come on man. If there is really something coming up next year, like a serious PC game then their PR simply sucks.

So nothing for D3? I don't mind waiting for D4, just started D3 a year a go, and have some ways to go yet. But I was hoping for an update patch, a few new items to expand the options for builds, and maybe even a new class. What's this new class for $15 someone mentioned? was it for diablo 3?

Necromancer pack is for 15$ and it only gives a new class. 

Fun thing is that Necromancer patch came with some new areas that looked like they were meant for full expansion, but someone flipped the switch and it got canceled ( *pure assumption).

Oh ok misread, my bad. That's the old Ros class my buddy already has... So not even a patch expected? there is a bug on xbox one where the wizards resitance isn't adding up properly, leaving them exposed. they better at least fix stuff like that asap. Have they said anything at all about D3? also, I'm new sorry, do they normally have update patches? like around when seasons start or something?

rofl, Blizzard has indeed become a laughing stock.

Since YEARS they tell us about how important Diablo is, what great projects they have.

We get a the darkening of Tristram event (which is the biggest piece of junk I have ever seen from Blizzard. It wouldn't even be good if it would be a fanmade mod), the Necromancer DLC and Switch / Mobile Versions.

That Blizzard is no longer able to tell good stories and have interesting characters - that has become clear since several years (in fact since Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm and Diablo 3)

Now we learn that they aren't even good at marketing anymore.

Sure, Blizzard is like a sect, they have lot's of believers and woreshippers. But how long will this last?

 

To be totally serious: Blizzard remainds me of Lucas Arts.
Lucas Arts was a fantastic company, they had such incredible games. Not sure how many of you know it, but X-Wing, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight or all the Lucas Arts Adventures (Monkey Island, Indiana Jones) were the best you could get.
Tons of players just knew that a new Lucas Arts game would be good, maybe even great. Lucas Arts stood for high quality, for great games, good stories, everything.
Then Lucas Arts started to think: Hey, let's concentrate more an Star Wars games. Less risk, because Star Wars games will sell better then adventures or games like Secret Weapon of the Luftwaffe.

-> Lucas Arts concentrated more on Star Wars.

A decision which was reasonable. You couldn't argue with this logic.

Then Lucas Arts made worse games, put way less effort into them. They probably thought: Hey, Star Wars games sell good, if the game is not as good as they used to be - who cares? Star Wars Fans are stupid, they buy everything with a Star Wars logo.
And again: This logic is not wrong.
It worked for several years. Earnings were still good, but the games got worse and worse.

But where is Lucas Arts now?

What seemed totally impossible 10-15 years ago acutally happened - they do not exist anymore.

 

I am afraid Blizzard is at the same road like Lucas Arts.

I do not claim that Blizzard will die too - but Lucas Arts need to be a reminder to Blizzard.

A glorious past can protect your future only for a few years.

When someone in the audience asks if this is an out-of-season April Fools joke, and when Blizzard's own YouTube trailer of Diablo Immortal gets downvoted by thousands, it's a real wake up call. I sincerely try and be positive most of the time with Diablo stuff. But, yesterday really affected me. Wyatt was booed for goodness sakes. And his best response to the audience is "don't you guys have phones?" I will not be playing Season 16.

Ill just give my 1 cent here:

It isnt said that Immortal will be the death of Diablo and im sure it wont be as bad as we think it will be.
But the community said clearly beforehand they dont want a mobile title. The great part of the community wants Diablo 4 or a remake of diablo 2. I understand fully they dont want and cant talk about diablo 4, as it is too early in the development.

The Problem with Immortal is that they announced it in a pretty bad way. Why not say that Diablo 4 is in development and Immortal is just the next game to not keep you waiting? That would have sounded better and would be the truth as they said Diablo 4 is in development.

They ignored their old customers and spit it their face with this announcement.

On a side note: I feel bad for him. The presentation could only fail. I dont know if it is true but i read that he cried backstage.

We don't know if another game is Diablo 4, or a different genre set in the same universe, but you are right that they should have said anything about working on something else than Immortal. One may argue it was a mistake to show it as major announcement, given the target audience present. Community doesn't want Immortal, but it's obviously mainly targeted for Chinese market and it might be successful there. Immortal is basically a reskin of another game made by Netease, they didn't even bother to invent something new there.

No wonders, basically that experience is a perfect setup for developing personality disorders, that may later result in alcoholism, mental illness or panic attacks - just to name a few. I understand the fans disappointment, but being dick towards Wyatt and the other devs and trolling the internet about it is just unjustified. I mean he was the guy who fixed D3, people should show some respect, if they truly mean they love the franchise.

Just FYI, might want to know your history because lucasarts' closure had nothing to do with how much money they were making. Sure they were more star wars focused but lucasarts were making quality, if not particularly spectacular, games right up until 2013. The Old Republic is still going strong to this day, 1313 was looking pretty good and what was eventually leaked of a build of Battlefront 3 blew even the most recent one today out of the water. Then Disney bought the Star Wars license, which Lucasarts was a part of, and shut them down. Not because they were failing but because they were a relatively small production company that couldn't produce games at anywhere near the pace Disney wanted, hence the handover of any and all future Star Wars game development to EA.

Honestly I don't think creating a mobile version of Diablo is an inherently bad idea, but mobile games base 90% of their popularity in the casual market. The one kind of person who would never walk into a company's game convention.

Literally anyone could have told whoever had the bright idea to announce Immortal at Blizzcon that even saying "look at this Diablo stuff we're working on. It's 4 years away." would have gone over better with that crowd.

How long did it take for Skyrim to come out? How long has Cyberpunk 2077 been in development? You aren't going to get a good game in less than 4 years. I guess the majority of the entitled playerbase forgets what it's like to BE PATIENT. Your game will come, but that's not any reason to act like spoiled brats because game companies don't cater to your every whim.

 No it wouldn't have. Lets say they do that, and the game doesn't come out in 4 years. Now the playerbase will be super hostile because they didn't get what was promised. Better to remain silent until ready. That's ALWAYS been the PR way.

True its target is the chinese market but i read a few comments where they said they dont want a reskined game. Im sure it doesnt count for the majority of the audience but even the targeted market is not completely happy  with it. (Ill definitely follow the whole topic in future  as it is  a by the book example for questionable marketing.)

I can understand the fans are upset (im too) but harrasing the devs is definitely the wrong way to show it.
I dont think they will get any disorders as they are in positions where you need to have understood that the backlash is not something against you personal but the company. If he gets some - Damn, hopefully he will get better soon.

True but  any hint for it would be better than this. They shouldnt announce that it is x years away but just say that they are working on it but cant show you anything right now. That would have been the right way imo. It felt like they didnt do any target analysis for this announcement which should always be the first thing done.

Yeah sure, they closed LA because they earned too much money...

And the games - yeah well, The Faile (Force) unleashed 1+2, bad console games.

The Old Republic was a desaster with a horribly low player base after a few month. WoW hat 10 times the player number.

True, TOR stabilized on a low level, was made Free 2 Play and got better.

But hey, if you were content with games like that and do not consider them horrible compared to the games 10 years earlier, that is great for you. Majority of the players however had my opinion and just didn't buy the games anymore.

And SW 1313 was so great, they cancelled it because they were afraid of all the money they would earn with it. Too much money can be a heavy burden ?

That you judge from some pictures / trailers about the quality of a game says enough about your priorities in a game. You'd probably be happy with a screensaver that looks awesome.

They probably knew the reaction they would of gotten, especially since they did downplay the hype a month before hand.

No, I did not. Why did you think that? There was no mention of Diablo 4, and we don't know what the other game is going to be right now. People might get hyped for nothing again, if it's another spin-off.

Because anyone genuinely upset by this only got their own hype disappointed. I knew full well that there would be no big announcements about Diablo.

Many have expected at least something like Diablo 2 remaster, after that post, so disappointment was still somewhat understandable. Still, if they said it directly at Blizzcon conference that Immortal is only a side project and teased another game even a little, there could have been some damage control.

      Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 33: Shades of the Nephalem. Starting on October 25 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Shades of the Nephalem theme, which first debuted with Season 22.       Season Theme
      The shadows, they are moving, and they seem… animated. Like they have a will of their own. Whatever this trickery is, perhaps you can use it to your advantage. Let’s see what the demons say when you fight side by side with your own shadow! Shadows of the Past: Activating a Shrine/Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class, who will come with a randomly chosen 1 of 3 predetermined builds. This clone's power will scale with your character and will last for 1 minute (unless your character dies). See this article for the shadow clone variations that can spawn when activating. Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season.       Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to any who may have missed them the first time around.       If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of five: Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a Level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete 2 Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at Level 70 in under fifteen seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Treasure Goblins outside of Nephalem Rifts will sometimes open portals to Greed’s domain, The Vault. Also returning for Season 33 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at Level 70 in under an hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped. And lastly we'll be bringing back Speed Demon/Need for Speed, meaning you'll need to beat a Torment X Nephalem Rift at Level 70 in 2 minutes. Best of luck! Return to Top Haedrig’s Gift
      Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works: Completing Acts II, III, and IV of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely! The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character.       Shades of Nephalem Theme
      In the latest Diablo III Season, the Shades of Nephalem season theme marks a return. Activating a Shrine or Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class. The clone's power wil scale with your character and last for one minute or until death.

      Fourth Kanai's Cube Slot
      In addition to the season theme, Kanai's Cube will have an additional fourth slot.

      Season 33 Start?
      We expect Season 33 to start in late September/early October 2024.
      PTR Testing
      Patch 2.7.8 will be available for testing for one week. Initially, Blizzard planned to test out the patch from September 17 through September 24, but they ran into some unexpected issues and testing has been delayed. New Mac executables for Silicon and Intel chips will be available in this build, as revealed by Blizzard.

      Season 33 Rewards
      The upcoming season mirrors Season 22 in terms of rewards, so here's what you can get.
      The Head and Shoulder slots of the Conqueror Set are coming, alongside Black Soulstone-themed portratis and the Loremaster pennant.

      Complete the Season 33 journey to earn the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.

      Season 33 Journey Rewards
      Here are the Conqueror requirements for Diablo III in the upcoming season. This will grant you an additional stash tab (up to a max of 5).

      Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete two Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at level 70 in under 15 seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Treasure Goblins outside of Nephalem Rifts will sometimes open portals to Greed’s domain, The Vault. Take U There: Reach Greater Rift Level 60 Solo. Greater Rift keystones can be obtained from any Nephalem Rift guardian. Power Amplification: Use Kanai’s Cube to augment an Ancient Legendary item with a level 50+ gem. Cubic Reconfiguration: Use Kanai’s Cube to reforge a Legendary item. Seasonal Conquests are additional goals to complete as part of the journey. You must earn at least 3 to earn cosmetics:

      Sprinter and Speed Racer task you with completing Acts I through V at max level in under one hour. Want to go fast while killing things? Boss Mode and Worlds Apart are right up your alley.  On A Good Day and I Can’t Stop are making a return, if leveling your Legendary Gems is more your thing. Finally, if you’re keen to prove your mastery of various Class Sets, Years of War and Dynasty will be returning along with Masters of the Universe and Masters of Sets. Best of luck!       Season 32 of Diablo 3, Ethereal Memory, will go live later today, and we have prepared a list of various useful and updated guides to help you get started!
      The Season of Ethereal Memory will start later today at 5 p.m. PDT (NA Servers), 5 p.m. CEST (EU Servers), and 5 p.m. KST (Asian Servers). The theme of Season 32 was first introduced with Season 24 and is now back for another round!
      What are Ethereal Memories?
      The theme of the season reintroduces the Ethereals, which are rare and powerful items known from Diablo II and reimagined for Diablo III. You will be able to hunt for all 21 iconic weapons of Diablo 2 during the season, but this time they will be harder to find and will only drop in Ancient or Primal rarity!

      Previous season items make their return this season. If you missed out on rewards originally available in Season 8, you will be able to get them this time. Furthermore, the end of journey rewards (originally introduced in Season 17) are back: The Teganze Warrior portrait frame and the Bat pet!

      As an interesting side note, the portrait frame you can earn this season is named after Teganze, a zone that was first introduced in Diablo 2 and will be revisited during our journey in the upcoming expansion of Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred!
