It doesn't make any sense, except as a get-rich quick scheme that won't work.

Plus there's already a mobile dev in Activision Blizzard: King, which is a money machine.

If Blizzard can make mobile games that use their IP while being a good mobile game (is there such a thing?), why not?

But Diablo Immortal is the counterexample. It will never be a satisfying game, except perhaps for the youngest of players who never had access to a PC or console.

It's simply impossible to control correctly with a small touch screen. It's impossible to see well when your hands already hide half the screen.

In addition, it is indeed a quick rehash of a previous game of the developer, which shows a lot of disrespect to the Diablo community.

Hearthstone is a super slow paced no dexterity needed game, so yes it may be a good fit for mobile.

Maybe Blizzard can do a derivative card game from WoW or a WoW-themed candy crush or something. It will never do a decent WoW client on mobile though, and it shouldn't try, it's not possible. Same for most of its other games.

Last but not least, the only reason to get interested in mobile games is money. This means creating schemes like King and its drug-like addiction scientifically developed to enslave its customers and persuade them to purchase indecent amounts of in-game crap. In the end, it cost these customers more than purchasing a 60$ title and paying a 10$ sub per month.

That's not the business philosophy most customers expect of Blizzard.

Aside from that: does not look interesting to me so I won't play it. Best thing you can do is speak with your wallet (or game time in this case). If no one is gonna play it (or does play it only for a little bit before de-installing it because of dislike), I am pretty sure this signal would prompt Blizz into rethinking their strategy.

But people really should take step back until then. It is not out yet and maybe by the time of it's release it will be better than expected. Sure, getting some funny memes out of it is a nice thing and I do enjoy this whole scenario for its entertainment value but some people really do get a little too invested in it.

Blizz could have come better prepared as to avoid as much damage as possible but alas, it did not happen. Give them your feedback (without turning into a raging nerd) and see what happens. After all you, as a consumer, have lots of power once the game becomes available. Don't throw it away by going full "Guy That Needs To Be Censored All The Time".

Even if they are a ways away from revealing the next big thing with Diablo ( Be it Diablo 4 or something else for Diablo 3), they could of given us more. Either a story line hints, concept artwork, character teaser. I get that blizzard wants to make a diverse game set, and they should, but the core of their gamers are console gamers and I think they should of planned for that better. A bit dissapointed with this announcement but still hoping for something big in the trademark "soon" department.

You want people to be interested or even excited about a mobile game? 

"We're releasing a new Diablo game on PC, Consoles and mobile. We know it's a challenge to make mobile games with gameplay equal to a PC or console game which is why we designed it for PC/Console first. We are up to that challenge and dedicated to getting the controls on mobile done right so it will live up to it's PC and Console versions."

Instead, "Hey we're gonna reskin a gacha game and call it DIABLO"

Have they SHOWN atleast a single tiny teaser of these "multiple projects" at Blizzcon? No. They just gave us this abomination of a game and were like "There ya go kay bye".

I think people aren't seeing the whole picture here. The decision to make this game in the first place came from the Activision side of the company. This was a 'you guys over there better start making more money for us.... or else' So sadly they had to do this.

Just like the upcoming change in HOTS from Stimpacks to 'Boosts'. Which from the sounds of it I'm thinking will be sold in 'bundles' of stacks of them. Since they will be per match with Boosts rather then per day Stimpacks. And the way they will function with higher XP the more people in each match that have them active. Which is to try and encourage more people to buy them. However I do imagine that there will be single Boost as Rare & 3 as Epic drops in Loot Chests as well. To attempt to entice people to purchase more. I'm sure when they do the change over they'll give us all a stack for free. Yeah know, cause 'the first taste is always free' :p.

Just to let everyone know. While I'm not exactly a fan of this Diablo mobile game, I'm not totally against it either. With all the Jim Sterling and (sadly passed away) TotalBiscuit & people of that ilk videos I've watched over the years I understand the unfortunate situation of things like these in our games increasing more and more in these recent years. Jim Sterling's Jimquisition(s) in the last few weeks was mentioning about how this ever increasing 'need' for more profits, more profits, and more profits year over year in the corporate games industry is possible to eventually lead to a financial bust type situation for them.

Look, if they were "just about greed," why not charge $500 for each skin?  Cuz nobody would buy it. 

They have to offer items at a price they THINK people will pay.  NOBODY HAS TO PAY IT.  You dont get a tax fine for NOT purchasing EA/Activision/Blizzard products, unlike some OTHER things in the US specifically... 

Hearthstone might be a cashgrab - but you know what?  Ive played it twice and never put a penny in it.  I dont want to.  Ive played HotS numerous times and love to do so, so ive put maybe 15$ in it between my sons account and mine.  Thats barely a wow month sub and weve played it for over a year im sure.  Whenever wow had the flaming Judgment charger mount offer.

Its not greed if you dont get any money from it.

They did the first with the release of D3 on the Switch. But they failed the second with Diablo Immortal. Neither an ARPG nor Diablo as a franchise works really well on a phone. If they were serious about that they could have hired a completely new team to develop a mobile-only game that sets a new milestone in mobile gaming. 

The fact that they seem to only want to cash in as fast as possible could mean something positive for us pc gamers all together: Blizzard does not believe in mobile gaming being more than a short trend in gaming. 

Your statement leads me to believe there will be a Diablo 4. They did recent mass hiring for the Diablo team. I seriously doubt all of that hiring was needed for a Chinese port.

      Gamescom is back in August this year, and Blizzard have announced they will be present at the Xbox booth! 
      The event starts on August 21st and runs until the 25th, with War Within, the next WoW expansion, releasing a day after that (or right in the middle of the show on the 23rd for those with early access), so we might get some exciting news on it at the show. Then there's Vessel of Hatred, the new Diablo 4 expansion, as we should get some new info on it as well, with its October 8th release date also looming. The press release also mentions Diablo Immortal and Overwatch 2 will be involved.
      Xbox also announced this year they will have their biggest booth at the event yet, with the Activision Blizzard merger certainly helping with that!

      Some great news for Chinese players, as Blizzard have signed a new agreement with NetEase, and players will be returning to their games as early as summer 2024! 
      Most Blizzard games were suspended in January of 2023, with players losing access to their characters and being unable to play World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Warcraft III: Reforged, Overwatch, the StarCraft series, Diablo III, and Heroes of the Storm, due to an expired licensing agreement. Luckily, a new deal has now been made!
      A lot of WoW players decided to re-roll brand new characters on Taiwanese and Korean servers after the old deal stopped. Their old character data is saved, however, but it will be from back before patch 10.1, so it's going to be a tough decision on how to proceed for them. Perhaps Blizzard can come up with a solution to merge the accounts?

      As the Microsoft-Activision deal closes, Bobby Kotick will only stay on as CEO through the end of the year and leave on January 1, 2024.

      According to WSJ, Bobby Kotick, former CEO of Activision Blizzard, has floated the idea of buying TikTok to potential partners.
      Former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has reportedly shown interest in purchasing TikTok, as legislation in the U.S. threatens to ban or force the sale of the popular app over national security concerns.
      Kotick is said to be seeking partners for the potential acquisition, discussing the opportunity with notable figures including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The move comes amid growing scrutiny over TikTok's data privacy practices and its ties to China, with U.S. lawmakers pushing for decisive action.

      Bobby Kotick left his position at Activision Blizzard in December 2023 after Microsoft finalized its purchase of the company. Post-acquisition, he reportedly received over $375 million, as detailed by Forbes.

      Blizzard games like World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and Overwatch 2 might soon make a comeback in China, thanks to Blizzard reportedly teaming up again with NetEase.
      The news comes from Core Esports, which suggests Blizzard's game services could be back by the end of March or the beginning of April.
      After 14 years of partnership, Blizzard and NetEase hit a rough patch in 2022, leading to failed negotiations. Consequently, when the licensing agreement concluded on January 23, 2023, Blizzard's game services were suspended across mainland China.
