Turning Off War Mode Outside Capital Cities in 8.1

Recommended Posts

Some more PTR news, as redditor RVD3 has noticed we'll now be able to disable War Mode inside rest zones instead of only being able to do it in Stormwind and Orgrimmar. You'll still only be able to turn on War Mode in the Alliance and Horde capitals, however, but this should help with some frustrating gank/camping situations, or when you just want to finish up that world quest and don't want to be bothered. You still need to get to an inn or similar, so turning War Mode on is still risky, just not as much as before.

So, will this make you more likely to turn on War Mode when leaving for Zandalar and Kul Tiras?

No. I'm Horde and started on a PvP server all the way back in 2005, but when I returned the game I literally spent hundreds of real life dollars (this was pre token to balance) getting away from that *filtered*. No reward they can offer in game will get to me engage in the toxic and degenerate gameplay that is World PvP.

For sure! Also if you are outnumbered you will get extra bonuses up to 30% which is also a plus. If you "only" have a 10% bonus you already know that you are very unlikely to die to the other faction, seems like a win-win situation!

And how much of that "bonus" do you lose from time wasted every time you're killed?

For me, i will never be turning this thing on, even if the pvp talents are so awesome, because all it does is open me up to getting ganked by level 120 players when i am level 60 or something.....i am all for challenge all that, but when a player or players are level 120 or ??? in this game's case, it is not competitive at all and the fact that blizzard is doing nothing to mitigate the ganking, its pretty much any country having military soldiers, but not having any ethical rules to follow, they will be going around raping everyone in the open.

They honestly need to control how pvp is done to prevent this kind of unfair combat situations, though i know nothing will get done.

Meanwhile Alliance whined so hard that now underrepresented faction get +30% rewards instead of +10%.

Always enjoyed world PvP since day 1 Vanilla, I still remember the shock and the surprise when meeting my first night elves for my first PvP fights in Ashenvale.

So War mode always been and will always be on for me ?

Now if only, players would have a spine and face players that can actually fight back...then pvp would be awesome.

There were 2 instances where i got killed by players with war mode turned on.

1: Level ?? vs level 30 = Unfair and i think Blizzard should enforce rules to prevent this kind of ganking, but right now, they pretty much encourage it by not having rules against it.

2: 2x Level 30s vs Level 30 = Abit unfair, but manageable, i was able to kill one of them and died when the second one had maybe 10% health left, this was thrilling and i wish more pvp was like this.

Overall, players tend to prefer easy wins over a challenge and when they are challenged, they tend to run away and when they get help, they unsurprisingly grow a spine and fight, knowing that they will be winning the fight.......honestly? its very sad when people are like that and they should just grow a spine and go after fights that you can't exactly win 100% of the time or at the very least, are unsure if you can win or not.

I mean, its half the fun facing challenging players, not sure how they can have fun when the other players they are killing are so under-leveled its impossible for him to be challenged...you know what i mean?

I agree World PVP and ganking needs some adjustments. I do use War Mode to level, however, I feel if Blizzard is able to run sharding or phasing I think they should be able to shard grouped level ranges together for World PVP such as every 10 to 20 levels grouped together to not allow a lvl 120 to attack someone lower than 10 levels. The low level gank is out right harassment and there is no reward/gain from it.

Phasing already works that way - if you visit a capital during leveling, you will mostly see other characters of similar level, whereas at 120 they are just not there. However this alone is just not the single and topmost priority the system uses. Based on my experience phasing tries to prirotize:
1. Players that are in the same guild or party (never occured to me, that we couldn't see each other)
2. Players that are on the same realm
3. Players that are in the same geolocation
4. Players of different faction
5. Players with same quests
And to my belief, same level range is probably just a 6th or 7th grade priority. But during a Holiday event that goes back to an old-world zone it's still extremely hard to come by low level players, so to some extent it works.

Very informative details here, but is this only applied within capital cities as you mention or to the open world zones as well? I would think if applied to open world zones then this sounds great, but maybe set the level of characters higher on priority that can be seen/interact with each other in the sense of PVP alone.

Weird, when i was leveling with war mode on, i saw alot of level 120s in Stormwind and Orgrimmar and i saw a level 120 that repeatedly killed over 20 low level players......just cause they could....its just sad.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
