The Story of Xal'atath in Patch 8.1.5

Recommended Posts

yF574xf.jpg

Xal'atath is back in Patch 8.1.5 as part of the Crucible of Storms raid intro. This article contains spoilers.

While the Priest Artifact has been drained out of power in Legion, Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire is back and players embark on a mission to help her regain power. Cinematics have obviously not been implemented yet and we played through the questline on PTR. Read on for more details!

The Azsharan Medallion

The quest chain is started by looting an Azsharan Medallion that drops from Naga Invasion World Quests in Patch 8.1.5. The goal is to take it to the Tortollan Quartermaster, Collector Kojo.

Orders from Azshara

<Kojo studies the medallion and grimaces.>

Ugh... naga.

This medallion is inscribed with orders. Looks like naga have been commanded to invade our shores and seize artifacts of great power. You know, I recently came upon one such object. See that dagger over there? Nasty thing. Gives me the willies. I swear I hear it whispering to me. I found it nearby at Atal'Gral, on a makeshift altar. Maybe if you take it there, you'll get an idea of how the naga intended to use it.

You learn that Kojo found a mysterious dagger that's whispering to him at Atal'Gral. Loot Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire near Collector Kojo and make your way to the altar to place Xal'atath there.

Every Little Death Helps

<The whispers are faint, but grow louder as you hold the blade in your hand.>

So weak... need... blood... souls...

<The voice trails off, but you can still sense the dagger urging you on.>

Help Xal'atath recover its strength by killing nearby naga.

Quote

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Strength failing... I need... blood... souls...

Ah... much better. How cruel of that priest to leave me in such a state!

But enough about me. No doubt you have many questions. I can offer countless answers.

Unintended Consequences

<Xal'atath speaks once more.>

The servants of N'zoth prepare for their master's return. They intend to conjure a scouring storm to wash away all unbelievers.

The particular ritual they will invoke requires three ancient artifacts. One of void, one of storm, and one of ocean. Even now, I hear the void relic calling to me. It is being empowered... or corrupted. I am not sure which. I see it upon a cliff, overlooking a vast sea. Come, class. We can find a much better use for such a prize.

You must collect three artifacts for Xal'atath and the first one's located in Drustvar.

Quote

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: The naga seek relics of power to fuel their ritual. They intend to summon a scouring storm that will wipe this world clean of unbelievers. Fanatics...

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: I realize it may be... disconcerting to converse with a weapon. Be at ease. I merely wish to see you reach your full potential.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Why, just recently I helped another mortal hero defeat the Burning Legion. My selfless sacrifice left me weakened. Sadly, that priest proved... shortsighted.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: You, though... I sense you are truly destined for greatness. We will accomplish remarkable things together, you and I. Magnificent things.

Once you approach Falcon's Rest, take out the novices that are performing a ritual on the stone.

Quote

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: That which we seek is nearby. A relic of concentrated void energy.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: There! Those novices are performing some sort of ritual on the stone.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Stop them and take what is ours.

Once all enemies are defeated, loot the Void Stone Void Stone and unleash it to help Xal'atath find the two remaining relics.

Quote

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Unleash the Void Stone, $PlayerName. It should provide the strength I need to help you find the other two relics.

Xal'atath has taken on a mortal form.

Quote

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Yes. YES. It's been so long since I took a mortal form. This body is pleasing... don't you think?

The Pirate's Treasure

I sense another relic. A trident thought lost to the depths. It calls to me, $PlayerName. Do you hear it too? Its song takes form. I see a harbor to the east. An ambitious pirate, greedy and proud. Completely unaware of the power hidden within her hoard of gold. The would-be captain's hubris will not permit her to simply hand over her prize. I fear she must be taught a rather harsh lesson. But that is your speciality, is it not?

Quote

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: A powerful naga once possessed a trident. Now his underlings seek to recover it.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: What delicious irony that a pirate keeps such a coveted prize... as a trophy.

To recover the trident, you must go to Stormsong Valley and the uninstanced version of Freehold where the last boss is located. There's a creature that needs to be killed for Skeleton Key Skeleton Key and a treasure chest, which contains Trident of Deep Ocean Trident of Deep Ocean. Bring both items to Xal'atath to start the next quest.

The Tempest Crown

<Xal'atath breathes in deeply and smiles.>

My strength grows. I can see it clearly now... the third relic we seek. The crown known as Tempest Caller. How fitting that after the fall of Atal'Gral, the gluttonous Toatana would be the one to find the artifact. He was always scuttling about the depths, seeking treasures for his collection. Toatana's greed has left him trapped within a cave he can never leave. The crown awaits us there.

Quote

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: It is no mere coincidence that our paths intersect, $PlayerName. You were meant to find me. I was meant to find you.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: A grand destiny lies before us. Surely you sense it as well as I.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: But enough musing. Make your way to the shores of Vol'dun. That is where the third prize awaits.

The final relic can be found in Toatana's Cave in Vol'dun. Xal'atath appears right when you enter the cave.

Quote

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: This way. I doubt Toatana will give us the crown willingly.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: That gluttonous fool! Take what is ours, $PlayerName.

Toatana shakes his head and clicks at Xal'atath.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Why Toatana! I hardly consider that fair of you to say.

Toatana clicks angrily.

Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Well... we will see about that!

Defeat Toatana and loot the final relic - Tempest Caller.

Twist the Knife

The relics are ours... as it was meant to be. There is but one more step needed for the great truths to be revealed. The naga sought to summon their storm from a place that echoes with an ancient power. Though this site has had countless names over the ages, you mortals know it as the Precipice of Oblivion. I will go on ahead and begin preparations. Join me there.

Go find Xal'atath at the Precipice of Oblivion near the Crucible of Storms entrance.

Quote

Xal'atath: Here we are. Do not be afraid. This was always meant to be.

Enter the Crucible and place all three relics as offering. You will notice a big eye glaring at you. A cutscene will begin to play as you place the final one and you will be teleported out of the Crucible. The cutscene isn't implemented yet and we won't see it before 8.1.5 goes live.

WoWScrnShot_011519_211155.jpg

You are now supposed to return to the Great Seal and tell Talanji of what transpired in Stormsong. We entered the Crucible once again and saw additional Xal'alath & N'zoth roleplay, suggesting that Xal'atath betrayed you and the dagger is actually serving N'zoth.

Quote

Xal'atath yells: Hear me, God of the Deep! I have brought you the Opener... the Bringer of Truths... the Torch That Lights the Way!

Xal'atath yells: Honor our bargain... free me to find my own fate!

N'zoth says: Go... but the blade must remain... to serve my will.

Talanji was despawned for some reason for Zandalari Trolls and we were not able to report back to her. It's good to finally see Azshara's influence and N'zoth. Let us know what you think about the questline in the comments!

I would have loved a bit more personal interaction if the player is playing the priest class.Yes,undoubtedly in this scenario we can think of a different priest "repossessing" Xal'atath but come on,am I the only who would have wanted a nice exchange of :

Xal'atath : Oh,it's you. Well, are you proud of the state you left me in?The power I gave you, everything in the grasp of your patethic mortal palms, and you squandered it . *Xal'atath is silent and resumes with a suspicious gleefulness in her voice* . Oh well,we can let bygones be bygones, there is no reason we can't ... resume our previous deal.Come *Player Name* , we have work to do.

As a reason why the priest player would help her again, well, pretty sure the coming onslaught of an Old God can make anyone take up shady deals again.

nice twist!  Not unexpected but... the fact that Xal'atath was actually a 'mortal' type being was unknown to me (didnt do the SPRIEST side.) and that he wants to keep the dagger is...  also intriguing.

Im actually 99% sure they are doing this. If I remember correctly there are specific lines for priest players, and considering there are lines for engineers when doing the war campaign, I cant see them not doing some flavor text. Just wait for the priest lines to be fully flushed out.

Apparently the text is supposed to be different if you are a priest.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
