Patch 8.1.5 Official Preview

Blizzard posted a preview of everything that's coming in Patch 8.1.5 on March 7 here.

Patch 8.1.5 Datamining

Every week, a new build becomes available for testing on PTR. In this section, you can find the latest build coverage that focuses on Class changes and highlights.

Patch 8.1.5 testing comes to an end with the Build 29558 tagged as release candidate, but expect some last minute changes to Beast Mastery Hunters.

Note: Some Class changes may be deployed to the live game via hotfixes.

Build Highlights

Class Changes

Kul Tiran Humans & Zandalari Trolls

Both Allied Races will be available in Patch 8.1.5. Unlock requirements are pretty straightforward. You need to be Exalted with two Battle for Azeroth factions, finish the Battle for Azeroth story on Kul Tiras or Zandalar, and complete the Tides of Vengeance War Campaign. If you're planning to faction change, you may be interested in this article which deals with rep conversion and unlock requirements after swapping factions.

Crucible of Storms Raid

The two-boss located under Shrine of the Storm serves as a bridge between Battle of Dazar'alor and the raid that will come in Rise of Azshara (Patch 8.2). A portion of N'zoth can be found here. Crucible of Storms will open on April 16. Raid Finder & Mythic will become available on April 23. The item level of rewards is still to be determined. A short questline involving Xal'atath will lead players into the raid. Most items that drop in the raid have interesting Old God themed effects, you can check them out in our Crucible of Storm Items Compendium or here.

A New Season of Brawler's Guild

A new Brawler's Guild Season awaits in the upcoming patch. Players will be able to unlock new rewards, such as transmog sets, shirts, and a new crocolisk mount!

New encounters include Mama Stormstout, Phillip Carter Tracey, Robe-Robber Robert, Tidemistress Shellbreaker, Zaxx Dreadslice, and more.

Portal Rooms in Stormwind & Orgrimmar

Both faction cities have been updated with new portal rooms that lead to seven locations of interest. Blizzard also removed some portals in the open world as a result and you can find the reasons behind that here.

Warlords of Draenor Timewalking

Warlords of Draenor dungeons will be added to the Timewalking event.

  • The Everbloom
  • Bloodmaul Slag Mines
  • Iron Docks
  • Auchindoun
  • Shadowmoon Burial Grounds
  • Skyreach

The WoD Timewalking Vendor will sell two mounts for Timewarped Badges and Draenor faction tokens. You can find more details about the event here.

New Micro-Holidays

Three micro-holidays are coming in Patch 8.1.5:

Tools of the Trade Profession Items & Questlines

New Profession quests that reward interesting Tools of the Trade items are coming in Patch 8.1.5. They were first shown off at last year's BlizzCon and the items provide the crafter with interesting perks. If you are a smith, you'll be able to craft items with the Indestructible affix and repair a selected piece of armor free of charge on a 1-hr cooldown. You'll need to be at max skill to start the questlines.

Arathi Basin & Warsong Gulch Visual Updates

Both Battlegrounds have been updated to meet the visual fidelity of today's standards.

Heirlooms

Heirlooms can be upgraded to scale to level 120 in Patch 8.1.5. Blizzard decreased the price of all Heirloom upgrade tokens in the latest patch.

New Quests

The War Campaign continues with a new chapter for both factions. Hunters will be able to complete the "Never Hunt Alone" questline to tame Hati again, and Magni's efforts to heal Azeroth continue. A new Before the Storm questline was added which involves Feathers, a new mechanical parrot battle pet.

New Mounts & Battle Pets

Two interesting mounts are coming in Patch 8.1.5. Alliance players will be able to obtain a wolf, whereas the Horde can finally get their hands on a horse mount!

Blizzard added a bunch of new world event collectibles for 2019 in this patch.

Wintergrasp's Back!

Wintergrasp will be added to the pool of Epic Battlegrounds in Patch 8.1.5.

Darkmoon Faire Updates

Darkmoon Faire received a new roller coaster in Patch 8.1.5 and three new balloon companions in Patch 8.1.5. Riding the roller coaster will grant you the WHEE! WHEE! buff that increases Experience and Reputation gains by 10% for 1 hour, similar to the Darkmoon carousel.

On my phone, so it's hard to quote, but you just made unlocking allied races harder for one faction players ? (requirements swapped).

Anyways... at least one more month, if not 2 for my trolladin ?

Are you really surprised? They delayed their release for half a year, they added extra grinding to unlock them and all that so you can start HALFWAY into the expansion with a level 20 character. You dont need to be a genius to realise its because they want to tempt players to buy the boost

Uncommon Patron

Excited about the Tools of the Trade profession quests.  Would love them even more if Blizz would up our quest cap to 35-40 from the current 25.  Or, reformat a quest from the log into an item we can stick in our bag or bank.

If that were so they wouldn't have made it a requirement to use no boosts, not even one level from recruit a friend, to get the heritage armour. They also made leveling quicker, so if they are trying to push boosts from the shop they are doing a terrible job.

With all the predatory game shop practices out there it's hard to fault WoW on that front. It's ok though, they are so weak on many other fronts XD

Yeah except releasing allied races that were promoted to sell the expansion, halfway through it. Have fun leveling it for 100 leves to START the grind to catch up with your main.

Or ; 1 ) boost 2)  race change (if you have a class that can). You can always get heritage armor on an alt.

Does it bother anyone that Zandalari Trolls have 7 things to modify when creating and Kul Tiran humans have only 4? I was hoping that body type would be something we could adjust. Has there been any indication that there would be more choices for Kul Tiran humans when creating them when it goes live?

I can confirm there are more face options now on 8.1.5 PTR. I recall Kul Tirans only having two face options in early testing cycle. I'm currently working on an updated article for Kul Tiran Humans, should be up fairly soon.

I'll be race changing my Night Elf Druid and leveling up a new Kul Tiran Monk for the sweet heritage admiral outfit. Already reserved the name Poundage on my server.

Planning to do exactly the same with my Troll Druid. Gonna race change it into Zandalari. I don't really care about Heritage Armor. I'll maybe level a different char when the time's right.

I made it a goal of mine to get all of the Heritage Armor, because I have a habit of setting crazy goals like that. Last expansion I got A Glorious Campaign (feat of strength) and all of the class mounts. I know some people got all of the Mage Tower appearances as well - I only managed that on my Shaman plus a few others here and there I really liked (Demo Lock, Guardian Druid, Disc Priest, Ret Paladin).

So far I only have Void Elf heritage set, but I have several others in the works just accruing rested XP. I think I'll get it by expansion's end.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

For the next two weeks, the Archaeology quest for Spirit of Eche'ro is available on live servers, so don't forget to get the rare mount before it's gone for 6 months!
How to Get the Spirit of Eche'ro Mount
      1. Download MapCoords or some other add-os that displays coordinates in the game.
      2. Teleport to Azsuna from the Stormwind/Orgrimmar Portal Room or use your Dalaran Hearthstone to reach Dalaran (Legion) if you have one in your inventory.
      3. Seek out Archaeology Trainer Dariness the Learned in Dalaran at 41,26 and learn Archaeology if you already haven't.
      4. Accept The Right Path quest from the Archaeology Trainer and make your way to Thunder Totem in Highmountain.
      5. Talk to Lessah Moonwater to accept Laying to Rest. For the quest, you must collect 600 Bone Fragments of Eche'ro by rotating between four digsites in Highmountain. The exact locations with coords are outlined below.
Digsite 1: Darkfeather Valley (50, 44) Digsite 2: Dragon's Falls (58, 72) Digsite 3: Path of Huin (44, 72) Digsite 4: Whitewater Wash (39, 65) it takes roughly around 2 hours to get the mount.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
