WoW Classic Update: March 1st

Recommended Posts

The Classic development team has been hard at work to fix bugs reported by the community since the BlizzCon Demo. Some bugs won't get fixed, because it's how the game worked back in Patch 1.12. This post provides more insight into latest stages of WoW Classic development and bug fixes.

Blizzard received plenty od bug reports during the Classic Demo. They double-checked reports of broken Warlock demon summoning for example, but in 1.12 WoW, as soon as you started summoning a new demon, the old one would immediately disappear, so the reported "bug" was actually working as intended. They recently fixed some issues that were high on their priority list including:

  • Critical Strike rating: Each item now “Improves your chance to get a critical strike by X%.”
  • Rogue Energy: Was both benefiting from melee haste and re-calculating more often than it was supposed to.
  • Slow Fall that no longer applies to your jumps.
  • Pushbacks when hit by ranged attacks and wands.
  • Dodge, Parry, and Miss that were all not happening often enough.

WoW Classic will be out in Summer 2019. Are you looking forward to playing the game?

Hello Classic enthusiasts! We’ve been following the discussions about Classic closely here on the forums (and elsewhere) throughout the winter, and wanted to give you an update on a few things that the Classic development team has worked through since BlizzCon and the Classic demo.

The feedback we got from the demo was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who gave us so much feedback to work with, especially the community members who compiled lists of issues that people found with the demo. We’ve looked at everything that was reported, and want to share a few anecdotes with you so you can see how we’re tackling these issues.

One thing many players noticed was the incorrect health regeneration and the spell critical hit multiplier. Good catch! Going into the demo, we thought we’d fixed that and were surprised to see the issue crop up. Before BlizzCon, we specifically checked health and mana regeneration, and fixed the critical hit cases. We also did combat and regeneration tests to make sure we had those accurate.

It turns out that there was a discrepancy between how Classic was configured on our environment at the office (correct!) and the environment serving the demo to you (not correct…). Tracking that down taught us how to best check our environment configuration as we prepare it for launch.

Another issue players reported was that Warlock demon summoning was broken – lots of players said that you shouldn’t lose your current demon until the new one appears. We double-checked and in the original 1.12 WoW, and there, as soon as you started summoning a new demon, your existing demon disappeared. So the demo actually matched how the game played originally. There were a few other reports – such as “rare mobs do way less damage” and “Kobolds at Jangolode Mine run faster than walking speed when running away” – where we were able to confirm that the gameplay was the same in the demo as in the original 1.12 WoW.

It’s important to point out that there are some bugs we’re going to fix before launch, and there are some bugs that we don’t intend to address. As we mentioned in our BlizzCon presentation, some differences aren’t worth fixing, like differences in how the mail works. Nonetheless, we’ve fixed some fairly high-priority issues:

  • Critical Strike rating: Each item now “Improves your chance to get a critical strike by X%.”
  • Rogue Energy didn’t work right: it was both benefiting from melee haste and re-calculating more often than it was supposed to. Both issues were fixed.
  • Slow Fall no longer applies to your jumps.
  • You again get pushback when hit by ranged attacks and wands.
  • Dodge, Parry, and Miss were all not happening often enough.

That’s not all we’ve done, of course, but we want to give you an idea of what we’re prioritizing: core game systems, combat, and content. We’ve spent time on other things such as user interface and making sure graphics “feel” like they used to, but our primary focus is on gameplay.

Again, we’re following all of your discussions and loving your enthusiasm – and we’re going to get more information for you posted here soon (not soon™).

Thank you, and get ready for a Classic Summer!

Can't wait. Still raiding in BFA, because that is all that BFA is good for IMO, but Classic is where retail goes the way of the dodo bird for me.

I'm not even excited for classic but I'm starting to get on the hype train.

Still not interested in classic. Don't want to go back to old mechanics, plus content is going to get stale quickly.

That's like me going in a PvP thread just to let everyone know that I don't PvP.

Same here.

That aside, I think most people will get bored quickly, and there won't be any new content.

Honestly, it seems like the only people who want classic either didnt play it or were only around for the last couple months of it. You couldnt pay me to go back to classic. What i remember from is classic is literally taking 6 months to get a character to max level, literally no substantial content updates for half a year, 3 hours trying to just fill a 15 man UBRS group, not being able to experience any raids after BWL because there werent any catch up mechanics, and a very difficult to piece together story. *filtered* - half the specs werent viable for anything, only tank was prot warrior. Prot pallies/Bears didnt become a thing until TBC. Do you like being able to afford repair bills or change talents around that will cost you gold every time? well, vanilla didnt have dailies and quests will give you about 15 silver so youd better get good at crafting or farming on your non-flying mount.

I guarantee that Vanilla is not the return to the good old days that a lot of people think it will be. The quality of life changes that have been implemented over the last decade alone will make the game a nightmare for most people.

*filtered* all you like about BFA, but once you hit 60 after a half a year and theres nothing to do because blackrock spire and MC is boring or you dont want to go and do a questline in a zone meant for level 40 characters - youll be missing the M+ system or being able to jump into the latest raid to kill the last boss in a great, well told storyline.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

For the next two weeks, the Archaeology quest for Spirit of Eche'ro is available on live servers, so don't forget to get the rare mount before it's gone for 6 months!
How to Get the Spirit of Eche'ro Mount
      1. Download MapCoords or some other add-os that displays coordinates in the game.
      2. Teleport to Azsuna from the Stormwind/Orgrimmar Portal Room or use your Dalaran Hearthstone to reach Dalaran (Legion) if you have one in your inventory.
      3. Seek out Archaeology Trainer Dariness the Learned in Dalaran at 41,26 and learn Archaeology if you already haven't.
      4. Accept The Right Path quest from the Archaeology Trainer and make your way to Thunder Totem in Highmountain.
      5. Talk to Lessah Moonwater to accept Laying to Rest. For the quest, you must collect 600 Bone Fragments of Eche'ro by rotating between four digsites in Highmountain. The exact locations with coords are outlined below.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
