Did you stop playing after the e-sports cancellation?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I still think that HotS is the best moba out there. It's just such a shame the general moba community hates it because it's different.

I played the game since day 1 and I loved every moment of it. Better (and way more) levels, no stupid laning phases for 20 minutes and unique characters.

I never really thought I'd stop playing until the game actually died. But when they announced the cancellation of the e-sports support it felt like the game instantly died for most people. I still play, but I'm pretty sure A LOT of people just gave up already.

What do you think?

Heroes of the Storm Global Championship and Heroes of the Dorm being cancelled don't mean the game is dead, as we've seen that people are still holding unnoficial tournaments not funded by Blizzard.

It is sad indeed that Activision is cutting costs and butchered the HotS team, but they are still trying their best to keep the game alive and deliver content in a regular basis with balance patches, reworks, events, skins and new Heroes. Content is coming out at a slower rate? Yes, but better than nothing. As long the game doesn't go into maintenance mode, and as long the loyal fanbase still plays it, the game will not die.

That said, those unnaffected by HGC or HotD can still enjoy the game. Yeah, a lot of people are saying that the game is dead, but there are always those who can do nothing but complain. Heck, people have been saying that "WoW is dead" since The Burning Crusade, and yet the game still is there.

TL;DR: Been playing since the Beta, and I'll still play the game as long it is entertaining and my friends continue to play it as well. HotS is one of my favorite games, and I still have great times with it.

I'll be that guy... I only play HOTS for PvE so eSports doesn't matter to me. The '50% exp bonus' if you group to me just turned me off because it was too much of a bonus... it felt like they were forcing me to 'friend people' so that I'd stick around which ended up just not caring at all about the title. It doesn't help that I only Pvp in shooters so its not like I'm 'anti-pvp or a carebear' or whatever term you want to use to ignore the fact I only play Hots for a moba lite match before I go cook dinner.

Since Its the only PvE MOBA out there from what I know. Its kind of that same thing with Overwatch and the lack of PvE. I can see how PvP players would be worried if they added to much PvE for fear it will detract from the resources devoted to PvP. I assume Bliz refuses to keep the PvE events in Overwatch to soft 'force' players in to PvP where there is a much higher profit margin vs dev costs since other players are the 'gameplay'.

With the lost of 'e-sports' in Hots there is less of a reason to care for bliz since they were banking on stealing from Riots profits and with that gone its easier to maintence mode it since the fanboy will play it regardless if it gets updates. Much like that meme of how the CoD players protested yet release day you saw everyone's status as in game. Still with Ion/WoW recent, we give up, lets just make WoW how the players want mentality who knows what will happen.

What hurts me from playing more than eSports is the pure lack of events/quests once I did my dailies. I instantly quit the game but when the Toy box event of going on I'd find myself playing under I wanted to stop.

Not sure if this really aligns to what kind of response you were looking for but I just wanted to give the thoughts a PvE Hots player.

I don't know how long you've been playing HotS, but the thing is: there used to be some PvE oriented Brawls that were pretty darn fun. Sadly it's been literally ages since Blizz last put them in rotation. When questioned Blizzard said they want to bring them back, but are waiting the right opportunity.

In my opinion PvE Brawls should be added as a Custom Mode for the game, much like the Cursed Mines maps. Maybe one day.

I have to second you guys. I basically only play AI to unwind and complete daily quests. I am usually also either listening to podcast or watching YouTube videos at the same time on my other monitor.

I might give SL another try this season, since the mount reward returned.

I mostly play Brawls unless I have a full party of friends to do QM or SL, since solo-queueing in those modes are guaranteed tilting.
