Corrupted Items Update on 8.3 PTR

Recommended Posts

The side effects you get from Corrupted Items have changed on 8.3 PTR again.

As you probably know, Corrupted Items are making their way into the game in Visions of N'Zoth. These items come with a Benthic-like buff and +Corruption, which activates various side effects based on your current level of Total Corruption. Cleansing the item not only removes the +Corruption stat, but also its beneficial effect.

Blizzard has been working with multiple iterations of Corrupted Items on 8.3 PTR and side-effect ranges. Here's what we currently have on the PTR:

Corrupted Items

Items touched by N'Zoth's influence grant great power, but expose bearers to dangers of increasing severity.

  • Grasping Tendrils Grasping Tendrils (1 Corruption) - Taking damage has a chance to reduce your movement speed for 5 sec. The magintude of the snare increases with further Corruption.
  • Eye of Corruption Eye of Corruption (20 Corruption) - Your spells and abilities have a chance to summon an Eye of Corruption for 8 sec. The Eye inflicts increasing Shadow damage to you every 2 sec while you remain in range. Range and damage increase with further Corruption.
  • Grand Delusions Grand Delusions (40 Corruption) - Taking damage has a chance to summon a Thing From Beyond, which pursues you for 8 seconds. Its speed increases with further Corruption.

  • Cascading Disaster Cascading Disaster (60 Corruption) - If you are struck by the Thing From Beyond, you will be immediately aflicted by Grasping Tendrils and Eye of Corruption.

Recent 8.3 Changes

  • Previously, we had the effects activate at 10/20/40/60 Corruption as opposed to 1/20/40/60.
  •  Eye of Corruption Eye of Corruption previously summoned a corrupted zone, but the eye is much more visible.
  • Inevitable Doom Inevitable Doom which was available at 60 Corruption was removed and replaced with Cascading Disaster Cascading Disaster.

You can find more details about Corrupted Items here.

Problem I have is you'll need to carry a bunch of them around like a toolkit, "This boss I can't afford to get immobilized or I die, this one though I can wear this ring cause we never move"

Great for those raid encounters where mobility is key to prevent a raid wipe. "Uh guys I just got hit by an impossible-to-dodge AOE attack and am slowed, but I am carrying this huge *filtered* bomb that's about to explode and wipe the entire raid." 3... 2... 1...

Zek'voz Mythic from Uldir is a great example here (Last raid I played since I quit WoW). Titan Spark being the AOE ability that targets random enemies while Roiling Deceit being the bomb that is guaranteed to wipe the raid. But I'm sure you can come up with plethora other encounters where being slowed by damage is just a raid killer unless you are a class that has movement that doesn't rely on movement speed (Example given: Disengage, blink.)

Edit: Really, the part of your body you use to sit in the chair is censored/filtered? The terms of use on Icy-Veins is upholding COPPA law which means you need to be at least 13 years old to be here. /fliptable

Smart and sensible people will pocket a lot of the gear till they have adequate resistance before equipping.  This may take time and scrutinizing certain pieces for select scenarios.....

Dumb people will equip it all no matter what and complain constantly for unwanted deaths in raids, keystones, and other forms of content and expect to be carried/healed through their own gear selection blunder.

So.. 80% of player? can't wait to see the DH class play at over 9000 corruption and still be able to do everything just fine.

When you have players that refuse to understand when it comes to stacking corrupted pieces with 0 resistance then yes.  Even the DH class can not withstand a staggering amount of corruption w/o gaining a decent amount of resistance.

Class with heavy movement like DH , Monk , BM hunter for example will have a big advantage early in the patch , they can almost nullified the first and second effect. It won't matters latter when ppl will get some resistance but how much time it will take?

It also depends on the corruption stat rng that is attached to that piece of gear.  There is I believe, not sure, 3-4 grades of corruption that can be added on a piece of gear ranging from 10-75 (still in PTR testing I think).  However pending on x amount of times when the snaring/slow debuff goes off may not mix well during Sanguine, Volcanic, and Quaking weeks for keystones.   Even if you can Fel Rush or Vengeful Retreat for most of it you are still at the mercy of the debuff waiting for skills to come off cooldown.  What may even be a possibility if the debuff can negate movement cd's all together making your character stay put for duration.

I actually disagree with nullifying the second effect. The problem is it relies on the boss moving, not so much you. I mean it depends how big the circle is at what levels of corruption, but if it's big enough you may make a lot of zones that you can't really escape if you also have to stand on the boss to deal damage.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
