Ny'alotha Mythic Race Day 1: 7 Down, 5 to Go

Recommended Posts

Day 1 aka US day of the race is done and EU servers are about to come up, with the EU guilds waking up to find only 5 bosses left in the raid. This is actually more than some people expected, considering the massive number of bosses present in the raid. As you might expect Complexity Limit cleaned up handily with 4 of the 7 World Firsts going to them, with Midiwinter and Big Dumb Guild getting the rest. Well, let's take a look at the day's events, as well as all 7 kill videos from the guilds' streams.

The days started off pretty promising, with Wrathion, the first boss actually lasting almost half an hour! Considering previous first bosses went down in only 1 pull, this was a good omen for the raid's difficulty, and Midwinter took the very first World First of the raid, only 2 minutes ahead of Limit.

The second boss was a choice between Maut and the Prophet Skitra, and the latter went down only 20 minutes after Wrathion, with Limit taking the reins and grabbing their own first WF in Ny'alotha, with the difference between the top 2 guilds once again being around 2 minutes as Midwinter caught up quickly.

The pace was pretty consistent at the start, as another 20 minutes passed and another World First came, this time with Midwinter taking down Maut, but the gap between WF and second grew to a whole 7 minutes, with Limit and Big Dumb Guild getting Maut down around the same time.

We now also had a pretty good idea of who was pushing those kills early, with Blood Legion, Imperative and Vision joining the top 3 quickly. After the first wing aka 3 bosses were down, there were now 4 choices of boss to go for, 3 of which lead to their own unique next boss. The top guilds actually split up quite a bit here, with Limit heading to Shad'har, the dog boss, Big Dumb Guild to Dark Inquisitor Xanesh (aka Azshara's torture session, aka the football boss) and everyone else deciding to for for the bugs of the Hivemind. Big Dumb Guild got the sharp end of that particular stick, as it took them a loong time to get their boss down, while Complexity Limit came out ahead, as they got their doggie down first of the four bosses:

Next up on the World First meter was... oh, it was Limit again, as they moved back to the Hivemind and took the kill while Midwinter were clearing heroics:

It took Limit just under 3 hours to go from 3/12 to 5 and with that pretty commanding 2 boss lead, they went on to try several bosses, but after a while gave up on Ra-Den, and on the tentacle-fest that is Drest'agath, and settled on progressing on the Dark Inquisitor. But this is where Big Dumb Guild's big dumb focus and perseverance came through, as they managed to get that World first on Dark Inquisitor Xanesh and closed the gap to Limit with their 4/12 cleared.

Blood Legion were next to come closer to the top dogs, as they got the Hivemind World 2nd and joined BDG on 4/12, as Midwinter still cleared heroics. Limit soon cleaned up Xanesh and moved way from the pack to a 2-boss lead once more, just as Imperative joined that same pack, finally getting their only focus, the Hivemind down World 3rd, just ahead of Midwinter's return and World 4th on the same boss. We now had 4 guilds with 4 bosses down and Limit on 6/12 ahead of them, putting the race into its first real lull of the day.

The hotfixes might have had something to do with the lull, as they nerfed one of the more powerful Corruption effects, the heir to Infinite Stars, Echoing Void, by 20%. The nerf wasn't enough to stop Complexity Limit, however, as they pushed through and finally found another killable boss in Vexiona, making their bosses killed tally 7 and their World First count 4.

Midwinter managed to close the gap at least a little, as they got Shad'har down World 2nd and moved to 5/12, two bosses behind the leaders. Limit went back to Ra-den the Despoiled and have progressed on him until they called it a night very recently. Big Dumb Guild pushed a little longer than that, and it was worth it as they managed to also down the doggie Shad'har World 3rd, placing them on 5/12 together with Midwinter. In the end we have Limit on 7, Midwinter and BDG on 5, Blood Legion, Imperative and Club Camel on 4, 35 guilds on 3/12, 48 guilds on 2/12 and only 35 guild with just Wrathion down.

Once again thanks to Method's site progress coverage (and the exceedingly handsome fellow that runs it) for the live updates and sources, make sure to check them out for all the latest live updates - that is if you're not following Complexity Limit or Method's own 24/7 streaming events, which now have some damn impressive twitch extensions with a whole lot of info featured!

I feel like AKA was used far too much in this piece, aka cliche aka hackney...

Hey, you try writing stuff after 12+ hours of race coverage and no sleep ? I didnt actually have time/energy to read it back so yea it's probably a little rougher than usual. Aka rude aka constructive criticism.

Good grief, I'm sure the top guilds are Thrilled to be beta testing bosses and having hotfixes mid-attempt.     It seems more and more obvious that the Q+A/Tester groups were hit hard with the "800 laid off during one of our best years ever" nonsense.

Not really, this is pretty normal, has been like since, uh, Vanilla? I know plenty of mid-pull hotfixes that change the entire fight all the way through BC while i WF raided, and there have also been plenty in the last few years as well.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
