A new balance patch has just hit the Nexus. Cassia and Tracer have been reworked and we have some changes to the latest Nexus Anomaly, Tassadar buffs, and more. Read on for more details!

Earlier today, Blizzard released new skins for Cassia and Tracer. They went live before this patch.

General

  • Nexus Anomaly - A Call For Help
    • Tower, Fort, and Keep structure damage reduced by 10%.
    • Structures will only focus their attacks on enemy Heroes if they attack an allied Hero who is also in their range.
    • Self-damage from Heroes will no longer cause structures to focus them.
    • Periodic damage over time will no longer cause structures to focus Heroes.
Developer Comment: We’re making some changes to the Call for Help system that should help the overall player experience. We believe that currently Towers are punishing aggressive play too much, so we’re lowering their damage to give diving Heroes more time to make plays before they have to escape. Our goal overall with the system is to still have aggressive play be possible and rewarded, but to also give the defending team a way to punish prolonged Tower dives, which is primarily due to the stacking Armor debuff. We’re also changing the A.I. of structures to require that both the attacking and defending Hero be in their range in order for them to switch aggro onto an aggressor. This means that the defending Hero needs to also be near their structures in order to be defended, and it removes some unintuitive situations where a Hero can get aggro from attacks that are happening in far away places. Lastly, periodic damage will no longer cause structures to focus Heroes, so Heroes like Lunara will no longer pull aggro for the entirety of their DoT effects.

    • Objective Missile damage increased from 1800 to 1900.
    • Samurai Camp
      • Laner version Health reduced from 8,000 to 7,200.
      • Laner version Health scaling reduced by ~10%.
Developer Comment: We’ve heard feedback that players believe the pushing Samurai camp is too strong and the objective is too weak. For some insight, we purposefully designed the map so that the Samurai camp was uniquely powerful, and we wanted it to be a viable, effective strategy that was available for a large portion of the game, particularly since the map only has 2 lanes. Now that the map has been out for some time, we believe that the balance of power can shift a little in favor of the objective being a more central way to win the game.

Developer Comment: Since her release, Cassia has been a great counter-pick against teams bringing multiple Basic Attackers. When she was being created, the Hero Designer was working closely with the Live Design team to find a good niche for her to fill. Since that time, however, our design philosophies have changed, and you have been seeing us pull-back from any individual Hero being too sharp in their designs. The War Matron is no exception and her rework tries to keep her original playstyle intact while also opening up options for players to bring her into more team compositions. Our other goals with the rework were to enhance her Lightning Javazon fantasy and introduce new talent-interactions for aficionados to really sink their teeth into. It would seem that with Cassia lightning does in fact strike twice and we are excited to see what you can do with her!

We’re also addressing SkyfallSkyfall’s domination of his Level 7 talents but removing one of its effects and giving it to FirestormFirestorm. For players who want to build around going up and landing more often, FirestormFirestorm will now be the premier talent for that playstyle, whereas players who want to do damage while in the air, interrupt objectives, or heal themselves more can continue to take SkyfallSkyfall.

We’re also adding a strong defensive option at Level 16 that plays into his desire to fight near bushes.

Instead of buffing Sustaining PowerSustaining Power in hopes that it outshines Extended LightningExtended Lightning, we’re changing it to do its own unique effect. Overwhelming Power should synergize well with talents like Hindered MotionHindered Motion and Mocking StrikesMocking Strikes, allowing Alarak players who are able to stick to their targets to do a lot of sustained damage while keeping themselves alive.

Because of this, we’re swapping the cooldowns of these Heroics to better match their power levels.

Developer Comment: While he deals a whole lot of damage, Tassadar is performing a bit lower than we would like, so we are buffing up various parts of his kit that relate to his survivability and utility, while also increasing the potency of some of his talents. We expect these changes to put him in a much more competitive spot, while also filling a unique role with his ability to control the battlefield with various Slows and with Force WallForce Wall.

That was quick, great work.

Loving both reworks, specially Cassia's. Her talent tree is so well done that it even has variations in the paths, similar to Tassadar's (what I mean is that there are more than one viable talent in each tier for each build).

Get ready for sick double Null Gate plays =D

Yooooooo, this tracer rework is going to make her a monster in QM, even more than before. The Cassia rework seems like a nerf but with more options to play around with her style which is kind of neat. I'm a sucker for quests so if the Q quest has no cap that would be super fun.

I really love the changes to Deckard's Ruby, arguably my favorite talent in the entire game, and I'm happy they keep buffing it.

Loving Alarak's basic attack build and Probius' infinite walls but they butchered Cassia imo.

She is super easy to kill since Avoidance is down to 30 and takes a while to build up, her durability was further damaged by a 1/6 of her health being removed, Fend does way less since Impale and Penetrate are gone, she's just as mana hungry in the early to mid game as she used to be from Lightning Fury spam with no talent to remedy it like there used to be, and even though basic attacks are slower (even when you take the attack speed talent at level 1) her basic attack damage is way lower if you don't pick up new Titan's Revenge, on top of having shorter attack range and her only increase being something you have to maintain now since it's based off Avoidance instead of being a passive increase despite both being a 2 range increase. Also, they made Charged Strikes a passive and I have mixed feelings about that. The only silver lining of this rework is that Avoidance now both armor.

Sidenote, making Tracer have 15% baseline lifesteal seem busted without talents that improve it or her basic attack damage yet she has all of it with her big basic attack damage boost even being now level 7 rather than level 16.

 

Great Patch overall but Cassia is not someone I enjoy playing anymore.

Yeah, Cassia feels severely undertuned. I hope they tweak those in the future. There is a lot of potential but she indeed feels squishier than before, even though she has universal Armor now.

I don’t know if it was a buff or the fact that I got to free cast at will during a brawl with Chromie but she pretty much wrecked a team and did 40%+ of fort/npc damage in the match I got her last weekend.  It seems her buffs and Li Ming’s drop of disintegration time are single lane brawl GG’s.

There are plenty of Heroes that are completely stompers in Brawls due to their mechanics. Li-Ming, Chromie, Kael'thas, Thrall and Azmodan are a few Heroes that can pretty much carry their team in Brawls.

Li Li Level 1 Free Drinks Floating text updated to show as a crit. Medivh Base Portal [E] Fixed an issue that allowed Medivh to instantly mount after using a Portal to leave the Hall of Storms. Fixed an issue that caused Medivh's Portal to not feature a channel bar or apply visual effects while being channeled. Portal teleportation now happens instantly after completing the channel instead of briefly after completing the channel. Using Medivh's Portal no longer clears the command queue. Level 4 Raven Familiar Damage is now dealt by the Portal user instead of Medivh. Nazeebo Level 10 Ravenous Spirit Fixed an issue that caused Ravenous Spirit to be cancelled if another Nazeebo cancelled their Ravenous Spirit. Probius Level 16 Quantum Entanglement Fixed an issue that caused Quantum Entanglement to not apply if the Warp Rift is detonated as soon as it activates. Raynor Level 10 Raynor's Raider Fixed an issue that caused Raynor's Raider Banshee to receive healing when activating the Tunnel on Towers of Doom and the Sewer Waygate on Warhead Junction. Level 20 Execute Orders Fixed an issue that caused Execute Orders Yamato Cannon to fire at targets outside its radius. Rehgar Base Lightning Shield [W] Fixed an issue that caused Rehgar to not be healed by the damage dealt by Lightning Shield when he gains spell leech. Mal'Ganis Level 7 Black Claws Fixed an issue that caused Black Claw's Armor reduction to not be removed by Invulnerable. Level 16 Blind as a Bat Blind as a Bat now instantly removes any area reveals. Fixed an issue that caused Blind as a Bat to not lose vision of enemies that are revealed by damaging Mal'Ganis. Fixed an issue that caused Blind as a Bat to see enemies when first cast. Malthael Base Soul Rip [Q] Updated to heal Malthael for its amount spread over up to 3 effects.
