Gallywix Treasure Hunt Competition

The Story: Jaxtor Gallywix has disappeared, and Gazlowe has taken his place as the new Trade Prince of Bilgewater Cartel. Gallywix left behind a stash of Brutosaurs, a TCG Mount, and a collection of TCG toys, but no one knows where it is. Murkablo has escaped from this location, but the devilish Murloc has left the clues of their journey in riddles. The Alliance spies have received this information, and Gelbin Mekkatorque is encouraging alliance adventurers to beat the horde to hoard! Who will get there first?!

When: June 13, at 8 p.m. CET/2 p.m. EST, we are hosting a Treasure Hunt on our Discord and website!
We will be sending you all around Azeroth solving our riddles and taking selfies with some NPCs!

Treasure Hunt Rewards

The first riddle of the event will be released on the Gallywix Discord at 8 p.m. CET/2 p.m. Saturday, June 13. Here are some details that we got from the Gallywix Community:

  1. The first location is in the Zuldazar zone (we are telling you this to keep things fair between factions, so nobody gets a headstart).
  2. Go out in the world and find the NPC or item referenced in the riddle we release. If you are competing for any of the leader boards, you will need to screenshot yourself with your character name visible at the location.
  3. Put the solution to the first riddle into our website (visible once the event starts), case-sensitive. If correct, the next riddle will appear with some of what is going on in the story.
  4. Keep solving the riddles and putting in the solutions into the website until you reach the final riddle. Once you solve the last riddle, you will get a Discord command. You have seven days to finish all the riddles to participate in our Participant Draw.
  5. Open a ticket by pressing the mail icon in the Treasure Hunt Discord Channel (emote disabled until the event starts) and use the command in the ticket channel that you have opened. Then you will gain access to the winner's channel.
  6. After enough people have reached the end, this channel will become opt-in, and the ticket tool will be replaced with an emote to click. If you are the first streamer or solo player there, you just won yourself a Brutosaur! If you weren't the fastest, make sure you submit your solutions on the Gleam to be entered for our 3rd Brutosaur and TCG prizes. If you are competing, post your screenshots and answers in your ticket. If, for some reason, the ticket doesn't work, DM Drlevi-Kazzak / Lev#8039 on Discord with the info to claim your victory.

For full rules and information, refer to the Brutosaur Bonanza Support channel or the FAQ for this event on the Discord.

I absolutely detest these people, constantly and I mean constantly spamming Trade and General chat on Draenor EU with boosting spam, over and over and over, automated spambots 24/7.

Why, just why would you even team up with these dirty spamming scumbags ?

Hey OxO, I am sorry that you feel that way about us. I know we can be abit overwhelming in trade sometimes but i assure you these are all real people on their own battlenet accounts. Trade is a channel for offering up services for gold which is what we do, and only gold. Having played on and off Draenor since WOTLK i can assure you that Trade has always been full of one service or another spamming their wares as Draenor is one of the big 4 horde realms. There simply isn't another way to advertise our services ingame without breaching ToS.

We have been giving out Brutosaurs, 2 per month since March  to give back to the WoW community. This event is one of many and has a total of 25mill in prizes but was put on so people could have something different to do ingame instead of just clicking an emote on Discord for a chance to win. I myself have put a great many hours into creating this event to make it engaging and fun for anyone that wants to have a go. There are no requirements for winning other than just taking part in the event and having a look at our discord.  For many this is  a chance at winning a prize people will never be able farm the gold for to obtain before Shadowlands.

You do realize that many of the people that write the guide content related to WoW on IcyVeins are in guilds that are members of the Gallywix consortium, right? Same reason all of the content created by IcyVeins WoW content authors hotlinks use WoWDB rather than Wowhead, even though the plugin for Wowhead hotlinks is available for use by commenters. Who do you think the players are that guarantee 4 min/lvl in Freehold consistently, or run people through a M+ with class comps to stack the loot and make it in time? It's not gold farmers in sweatshops in China.

AFAIK these (Gallywix) are actual high-end players who outsource their advertising to anyone looking to make some gold, which can be a little overwhelming unless you leave /2. The whole situation is a byproduct of boost-for-gold advertising being allowed on /2 due to the lack of a proper medium; I wouldn't necessarily blame the boosters, but the system.

These people ruined trade chat and I do not understand why you want to legitimize their existence by partnering up. A big stain on Icy Vein's reputation in my opinion.

This is neat! I may give it a try! Couple questions.

1) how do you gift a BoP mount?

2) Can I play on the North America Servers to win?

I believe you will be given the gold to buy the mount. I think it does not matter where you play.

I can't attend this event, due to - I dont use Twitter, buuut I believe this is a great thing, and I wish everyone a good time - doing this! =)

And I will mention one thing, before I ride off into the horison heh.

Most of the time, all/any reactions and/or responds to these Trade announcements - are negative, but I will turn it around, and say - for me it is kinda positive, and if I dont wanna see them, I simply dont look.

I will tell you why it is on the positive side for me - and I might be all alone about this, but nontheless - I have been playing on lower population servers, and to see an empty Trade chat just does something to me, and I feel.. alone? Hehe maybe a weird thought, BUT that is how see/feel it, and I get less interest in playing, where I see "life", my game mood rises quite alot.

Or I just chooses to see it in a positive light, and since we got enough of f'eck'd up things out in the world, I just decided - not to bring it into my WoW world.

I will hush now! And I wish you all a great weekend! :)

Have you looked at trade chat? It's an endless stream of advertisements for boosting services, most of them by Gallywix. And it's not as if there's an advertisement every minute or so, it's multiple ads per second, from various characters: the very definition of spam. Trade chat is effectively unusable for anyone other than boosters, and the first thing I do on a new character is /leave 2. Gallywix has turned trade chat into boost chat. /spit

It's prevalent on all realms I've played on. Why are you so skeptical? It's clear as day that Gallywix ruins trade chat. Just log on and go to a capital city.

It happens on every high population realm, see the top ten on WoWProgress: https://www.wowprogress.com/realms/rank/eu/lang.en

Trade chat spam by boosting communities is a well documented phenomenom. This is just from a quick search, none of these threads are mine:

https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/fuht6x/opinion_gallywix_ruined_tradechat/
https://www.reddit.com/r/wowmeta/comments/e9u0wi/boosting_communities_using_rwow_to_basically/

https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/trade-chat-spam/12445

I know these boosting communities are technically not in breach of ToS and Blizzard allows their existence because it generates revenue through WoW Tokens. I am also aware that I can leave trade chat to get rid of the spam, and that's what I do. But I am appaled that a reputable site like IcyVeins that encourages players to achieve their in-game goals by learning about their class and the game would partner up with an organisation that is founded on 'pay me for easy epics'. It is the type of low-effort, low-skill, pay-to-win scheme that I would expect sites like IcyVeins and Wowhead to stay far away from.

You presumably use IV for gains and improving your play? By reading a guide you are taking what someone else has taken the time to learn rather than sim and test everything yourself. If IV was behind a pay wall surely you'd be paying to win too? If you buy a coaching session from a guide writer for them to go through your logs and tell you what you are doing wrong, are you paying to win? Reading a guide is a fairly 'low-effort' way of improving yourself compared to the large amount of work someone else has done to give you that information in a digestable format.

You have linked all of those posts but have you read the contents of them? Most posts come to a general consensus that :
1. Trade is for advertising gold/ingame services and items.

2. Trade when absent of that is just the spam or dirge or whatever new meme. People sell items on the auction house.

3. There is no alternative platform to advertise on without increasing the liklihood of scammers by driving these services outside of the game. Atleast within the game scammers can be banned and gold returned.

Say you take a break from the game, you want to get your neck level up, need help with those Mechagon essences but you only have lets say  8 hours on a weekend to play. Your end goal is to be able to farm 15s comfortably with your mates and maybe join their Saturday hc/mythic alt raid. You've read the IV guides, you know where you need to get those essences but no decent pug will take you because you have 0 relevant achievements. You join the alt run in your really bad gear, you feel horrible because you are being carried by your friends, they give you some gear but it's going to be weeks before you feel you are going to be contributing anything other than filling a spot. They are talking about doing a Mythic alt run soon instead of the Hc, theres no way you will be able to catch up in time but you keep trying. So you see one of these boost communities, you'll have to buy the wow tokens but you'll be able to play and contribute to your friend's runs at the weekend. You won't feel like crap because you learnt your class, you just lack the gear. You didn't have to spend your 8 hours pugging mechagon or the raid. You got you gear and your essence on the Saturday, hell you got a corrupted item in your 5 mask box too. So now you can ask your friends if they mind doing some 15s with you on the Sunday. Your friends will still be able to farm echoes while helping you level your neck.

Take me for an example. I am a 3rd year PhD student, i earn gold with Gallywix but i don't have time to raid, i don't even do my weekly m+ but i am a mount collector. I earn my gold so i can afford to buy the raid mounts before they go to 1% the same reason i used to raid. I work hard but i simply don't have time or the energy to commit to a Mythic raiding guild. Should i be forced to farm those mounts next expansion at 1% just because i don't have the time to raid any more? I've raided at my highest in a world 28 guild, played since 2009,  i read the IV guides, i know how to play the game and dodge the fire. Am i a low-skill player? No. Do i have the time to waste pugging content? No. Who am i hurting by buying my Jaina and N'zoth mount?

TLDR: Its not always about low skill/effort. If you have the disposable income for working hard IRL you should be able to play the game the way you want to or at a reasonable level with your friends in the limited time you have. People pay to play this game, if they choose to invest a bit of money to make that gaming experience worthwhile to them so they can enjoy the content without dealing with PUGs then let them.

(And the rest of this wall of text which I'm shortening so it doesn't take up all the space)

I actually was following this thread because I was curious how it was going to be handled. Your whole comment just made me despise the whole business even more, since I completely disagree with you and it feels like one huge excuse in an attempt to make it sound better than it is. I have little to no time to play nowadays and just leveled a new character to max level. It took me slightly more than a single week after hitting the max level to get gear decent enough to join raids and continue from there on out, and that's while having not much time to play at all besides work. So just through recent experience this really makes me believe that it's indeed to buy your way to epics for zero effort at all.

For example the 1% mounts. They're there as a reward for the skilled players that beat the content right now while it's still challenging. It's changed to 1% afterwards since it's much less challenging and therefore a lot easier to clear (and thus farmable). It isn't changed to 1% so all lazy people can just buy their way to the mount before that happens.

I tried to watch this discussion silently and open-minded, but your comment only pushed me more against the business.

I don't really agree with your statement in regards for participating effectively in a hc or mythic raid  within a week (where my example was aimed) but thats not the point. You have a right to your opinion and i appreciate you taking the time to respond. You may not like Gallywix and i am sorry that my post swayed your opinion negatively, that was not my intent, only offer a broader context to why people use us.

This post wasn't about selling boosts, there is no entry fee. You could join the discord get the riddle and leave after. This was simpy my event, an event i have spent weeks planning and making, using all my free time outside of my PhD so people could have a fun thing to do and win prizes. I had some help but 80% of this event is off my back. Not to drive sales but for people to have a chance at winning a mount that is not obtainable for most people and some fun. Yes there will be increased traffic because increased traffic means i can give away better things, i have to justify spending a budget of 25million gold. I  added 5 million of my own gold ontop of that, into these prizes so more people could win and be happy in these depressing corona times. I wasn't paid to do this event, instead i asked for a higher budget because i'd rather that gold be invested into more prizes. So hate me and hate Gallywix if thats how you feel but Icyveins just supported a fun event where people could do something different and win stuff.

So please i am asking politely if you take issue with Gallywix contact me or IV directly, this post is meant to be for people to have an opportunity to win or give away their prizes to the people they care about. You may think me disingenuous or trying to play some PR game and if so i'll happily take the time to talk to you if that's what you want. I am not a marketing person, i am just a student (neuroscience) trying to make fun things with great prizes for the wow community i have spent 11 years playing in. Lev#8039 (Discord)

Thank you for this response. Your last reply felt much more sincere and personal to me, whereas to me the earlier reply felt like a typical business defending something they do that a lot of people despise. I appreciate that.

Seeing you personally came up with the event and put a lot of time and effort in building it is something to be appreciated. I might not like Gallywix as a business but I do value individuals trying to come up with something fun and original for the community. For that reason I'll halt the discussion about Gallywix and wish you the best of luck (and fun) with the event!

edit; I only just noticed I completely missread the date, I thought it was upcoming saturday. In that case I hope it was fun!

I personally don't play on a high population server and hadn't realized how much of an issue trade chat spam can be on high pop servers. I just made a Troll mage on EU-Draenor, walked all the way to Orgrimmar. Wow, the amount of stuff that is being advertised in there is insane. Right now, there are about 20 people boosting offers being advertised very frequently, 3 of them being Gallywix.

That said, I don't regret running this hunt competition at all. I wasn't very familiar with Gallywix, so when Azortharion (our longest standing WoW writer) introduced us, I was very impressed by the amount of work that went into designing the treasure hunt and immediately felt it would be nice to share it to our readers.

Theorycrafting sites are a place for gaming enthousiasts to share their passion, and guide writers are simply well respected members of that community who are gracious enough to share their findings. It is not surprising that someone who advocates on behalf of a boosting community named after a greedy goblin would try and fit that into a capitalist narrative. I support many World of Warcraft content creators and websites, not because I directly purchase services from them, but because I support their contribution to the community. Gallywix is a pay-to-win boosting service that only focuses on enriching their members and has an obvious agenda of pushing the idea that casual players need to pay in-game gold (purchased with real world money) to advance in the game.

I am not saying boosting communities should be banned. Like elective plastic surgery, people are free to get it if they can afford it, but the end result can be very ugly. The current state of trade chat is a result of a race to the bottom by boosting communities. If a boosting community can get more customers by advertising more frequently, trade chat devolves into a spamfest with multiple ads per second. I readily admit trade chat was not a treasured forum of high-quality debate before the invasion of boosting communities, but it was one of the few reminders that you are playing an MMO with actual human beings, instead of grinding out your character surrounded by silent fellow drones while being bombarded by corporate advertisements. There are other factors that contribute to that strange isolation that can be felt in present-day WoW, but it is clear that Gallywix and their brethren are doing exactly nothing to improve it.

Players are free to offer their services for in-game gold. The reality is that Blizzard makes real world money through the sale of WoW Tokens. I accept that boosting communities will not go away. Personally though, I think the widespread availability of prestige mounts and achievements through boosting ultimately devalues the prestige associated with them and will end up devaluing the gameplay as a whole. Why bother playing the game if you can buy your way to greatness, but what does that greatness mean if you did nothing to actually achieve it? A hollow victory that might generate revenue for Blizzard in the short term, but could ultimately destroy any true sense of accomplishment, and devalue the gaming experience as a whole.

But the reality is that there is a large banner on the front page of IcyVeins that is promoting the name and services of Gallywix. Saying you are not 'driving sales' but are 'increasing traffic' is semantics. Partnering up with a respectable website like IcyVeins might lead to some of that respect rubbing off on the Gallywix community. As should be clear by now, I do not think IcyVeins should let itself be used to improve the reputation of boosting services.

I see some mixed feelings about this. I feel like pinning trade chat spam on a single community is absolutely hilarious, as people have spammed boosting others in trade chat since the second tier of Mist of Pandaria - the only difference is it being more organised now in comparison to then. Additionally, I see just as much spam from individuals as well as other communities as from Gallywix on the three servers (Kazzak, Draenor and Stormscale) I play on - so some of you seem to hold opinions of bias rather than opinions of truth. This is just what trade chat is. If you expect friendly converations or memery, there are other channels for it that are actually MEANT for such, while trade chat is MEANT for advertisement. I for one enjoy the spam, as prices are pushed down due to the amount of communities and I can  gear up my alts for a lower amount of gold.

This is a very long story that boils down to 'let Gallywix be your friend for money if your real friends are not nice to you'.

I appreciate that people who work hard for an organisation whose values I fundamentally disagree with are still hard-working people, and none of what I wrote is directed at you personally or to diminish the effort you put into this event.

Thank you for acknowledging the problem. I hope IcyVeins will think twice before entering into another partnership with this kind of community, and now that the event is over, I hope that you will take down the Gallywix banner.

What I primarily get from your messages here is that you're blinded by nostalgia of how World of Warcraft used to be, and dread how it currently is. I'm sorry to break it down to you, but the reality is people are purchasing boosts for a large variety of reasons - and hopefully that's here to stay. Purchasing boosts is not invalidating any prestige really, as the prestige to do most things is practically non-existent. Nobody sees a guy with 12/12 Heroic or Keystone Master and think that he's a prestigious guy. Some are not good enough to see or beat X levels of gameplay, some people are not active enough to grind their way into beating X level of gameplay, while other people (like me) are too lazy to grind their alts through low level M+ when they can just purchase 4x +14s and be 450-460ilvl and then be enabled to PUG 15s and Heroic clears.

For most it's merely a shortcut, and for some it's a way to unlock things that are beyond their skill level (Curve mount) but is yet not truly a prestigious effort. I feel like you're stuck in an extremely outdated, nostalgic perception of the game - and dread everything the game has become. Now you're taking that out on boosting communities and IV for partnering up with one. I for one am extremely thankful to be let known of this FREE TO JOIN (Yeah that's right, despite your efforts to put a stain on it, it's free) giveaway I would normally never see, and have a chance at winning a variety of prices I could otherwise never obtain or afford. So, I'd like to THANK IcyVeins (and Gallywix) for enabling me to do so. Thank you ?

I love the game, why else would I play it. I already stated that I accept that boosting communities are here to stay. Of course 12/12 HC and Keystone Master are not very prestigious, but the Jaina and N'Zoth mythic mounts are meant to be, which is what the Gallywix representative was talking about. I am happy that boosting communities fill a need for you. I just don't think sites like IcyVeins should partner up with them, in particular because of the endless spam on trade chat.

Hope to see much more of those events in the future, better than farming assaults twice a week! <3

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
