Best Starter Builds for Path of Exile: Harvest

Recommended Posts

df1AZX2.jpg

The latest League is about to begin in Path of Exile and, with little time left until its launch, we've put together a list of some of the best starter builds for you to try out from our sister site, PoE Vault, as well as our new Affix tool.

Gear Affix Tool

The Affix tool is an up-to-date list of all the possible affixes that can exist on a given item base. You can filter by item level to see the different affix tiers, you can also select many different filters for affixes to only display the ones relevant to your needs. You can see an example of how it looks below for 1H-Axes, as well as a menu above the tool to navigate to whichever item slot you want to view.

This tool opens up new possibilities for crafting gear, allowing you a far better view on not only how good your current gear is, but how good it could be and where improvements could be made.

Starter Builds by Ascendancy

Here, you will find a list of some of the best starter builds for this league, sorted by Ascendancy. Note that some of the Ascendancies do not currently have suggested starter builds, due to the strength of the other available builds to them, such as Necromancers having 4 suggestions, while Occultist and Elementalist have none under Wizard.

Duelist

r0lPdH3Ny9CRpQGoMBP9Ih38iRbE2Mp6Gnla7zbe

For Slayers, there are 2 suggested builds this league: Rain of Arrows Doomfletch's Prism Slayer and Ultimate Cyclone Slayer.

The Rain of Arrows build from Lydia uses the Doomfletch's Prism bow, strong Elemental damage, and a fairly cheap starting build cost to act as a solid starter with excellent clearspeed.

Ultimate Cyclone Slayer, which comes from Furty, on the other hand, has a steeper build cost due to the popularty of the build, but is the epitome of a "spin to win" build. Once you have this one built, just don't stop spinning until the League is finished!

Gladiators have also got 2 solid builds for league starters, both of which rely on bleed damage: the Bow Bleed-based Gladiator and the Bleed Earthquake Gladiator.

Both of these builds come from Vvckd, with the former being both expensive and vulnerable to Physical reflect, and the latter having somewhat mediocre damage mitigation. Despite this, they both make great league starters, with solid clear speeds, single-target damage, and the Bleed Earthquake build even being Hardcore viable, for those of you that prefer playing Hardcore.

For Champions, the choice is much more clear, with the Shattering Steel Champion from Vvckd shining as the best starting option. Not only does it bring solid clear speed and single-target damage, but it also is another Hardcore viable build that doesn't even need massive financial investement to start building.

Marauder

8JLpiy8Bw7vWZrULPkf7zbG0xJsg16Hr3dRRBhzd

Chieftains have 2 builds that both have solid starting potential this league: the Tectonic Slam Chieftain, which is essentially a slow-moving juggernaught with solid survivability that is most certainly Hardcore viable, and the Facebreaker Ancestral Warchief Chieftain, which is another tanky build that focuses on totems and solid single-target damage potential, both of which come from Vvckd.

Juggernaughts and Berserkers both only have 1 starter build on this list: the Earthquake Juggernaught and Ground Slam Berserker, both of which come from Vvckd.

Both of these builds can be started with very low investment costs (especially the Juggernaught build), while still being very tanky and completely Hardcore viable. One down side of the Berserker build, however, is its lacking single-target damage when you are in the early stages of gearing.

Ranger

8NX4fgwlh7YQhyJA7UBo7LNAMDWreMhUGveVcQ83

Raider players are unfortunately going to have to look elsewhere this league for a solid starter, as the main focus is on Deadeyes and Pathfinders

The Crit Elemental Hit Deadeye from Furty is an incredible build when played correctly, with huge single-target damage that can annihilate end-game bosses, excellent clear speeds, and great kiting tools. Unfortunately, that last strength does become a negative at the same time, as most of the survivability of this build relies on the player to be able to kite efficiently.

Pathfinders have 2 options this league, either the Kinetic Blast Power Siphon Pathfinder, from Furty, or the Poison Scourge Arrow Pathfinder, from Vvckd.

The former is blisteringly fast, with one of the highest clearing and movement speeds of all builds in the game, as well as having a huge chance to avoid attacks completely, excellent XP farming capabilities, and performing strongly as both a starter and finisher. For most players, the KB/PS Pathfinder is an excellent choice this league and, for the most part, is seen as an extremely fun build to play.

While it's definitely tough to follow the first build, the Poison Scourge Arrow Pathfinder is no pushover; it can be played on a smaller budget, has solid clearing times and still performs well on bosses, and it is even Hardcore viable.

Shadow

EMSWilVYQiqM89PVBtCHxnykrFAOkZbW0rSKE1u3

Just as with Raiders, Assassin players are in the same boat of being somewhat outclassed as league starters in Harvest.

For Saboteurs, the Ultimate Arc Mines build from Furty can be played on a budget with excellent results. For a very modest investment, you can find a solid starter and finisher for the league that can clear extremely quickly, but it is definitely not a build for the inexperienced.

If you're comfortable with spending considerably more, you can try out one of the top single-target damage builds in the game: the Low-Life Ball Lightning Mine Saboteur from Vvckd.

Tricksters can turn to the Caustic Arrow build from Vvckd, which features a very versatile playstyle that has the potential to complete all end-game content. The major downside to it is, as always with these kinds of builds, not everyone will enjoy a damage-over-time build.

Templar

0EbPYhjBsmkcIcsEQIPRNks7WK7JZvQaSbsogHK4

Hierophant players are going to be feeling slightly left out, as 2 of the strongest starter builds for Templar are for Inquisitor and Guardian.

The tried and tested Spark Inquisitor build has stood as one of the best starters for Templar for a while now and, just as before, this build from Furty will give you an extremely well-rounded build to play. It has strong damage for clearing and single-target, while still having solid defenses and being very beginner friendly.

The Dominating Blow Guardian from Vvckd is somewhat less effective, but is still most definitely present as a single-target damage dealer that can snowball very well if you can get your full set of minions summoned.

Witch

dT5zmNwBjdlCcY4pq6sescJt7Sk31Mgl1DBbI54j

It looks like this league's start is going to be all undeath, with 4 starter builds for Necromancers!

Lydia has 2 builds for Necromancer starters this league, Summon Raging Spirit and Physical Summon Carrion Golem.  Both builds are inexpensive to get started with and, with solid defenses and very fast clearspeeds, can definitely get you clearing all content in the game. Unfortunately, they both suffer from the same issue of playstyle preference: either you love or hate summoner/minion style builds.

Furty's Ultimate Raise Spectre build is an extremely strong starter and, with a fairly low level investment, can absolutely annihilate the endgame content of the league.

If you are looking to invest more into your build, then you can try the final suggested starter from Vvckdthe Baron Zombies & Skeletons Necromancer. Once you put your investment into gearing this build, you will find yourself with a simple playstyle that can clear any and all content the game has to offer.

The Newest Path of Exile League: Settlers of Kalguur 3.25
The newest Path of Exile League, Settlers of Kalguur 3.25, launches today! We've updated the guides on our sister site, PoE Vault, to ensure that Exiles are well-prepared to help Kalguuran pioneers build the town of Kingsmarch and establish trade between Wraeclast and their homeland.
For new players who would like to try out Path of Exile, you can follow our “How to Start” guide. Path of Exile is not an easy game, but with our guide and Discord help, there is no reason not to try the game out and enjoy all the fun Wraeclast has to offer in this amazing ARPG from Grinding Gear Games.
The Settlers of Kalguur Challenge League
In the Settlers of Kalguur Challenge League, you’ll come across familiar faces from the Expedition league: Dannig, Rog, Tujen, and Gwennen. They are on a mission to gather resources in Wraeclast to initiate town construction and establish a shipping trade route to Kalguur. To aid in this endeavor, they have enlisted numerous characters from Wraeclast, some of whom you might recognize. However, they also need the assistance of a powerful Exile like yourself. This Path of Exile July expansion introduces the Settlers of Kalguur challenge league with the following:
A New Trade Market System for Currency Many Changes to the Endgame Changes to Tier 17 Maps New Bosses Additions to the Campaign A lot of Quality-of-Life features Reworked Endgame New Supporter Packs For more information, please head over to the PoE Vault Settlers of Kalguur League Hub.

Recommended Builds for the Settlers of Kalguur League
We’d like to give you a few recommendations of what we believe to be some of the strongest league starter builds (although any build tagged as a League Starter and updated for 3.25 is a very solid choice).
CasualDanPoe’s - Minion Army Necromancer is a cheap league starter that will enable you to farm tier 16 maps on a budget. Fast, deadly, with a lot of quality-of-life features. If you’d like to feel like a General of an Undead Army, then try out this league starter and you’re not going to be disappointed. BalorMage’s - Poison Summon Raging Spirits Necromancer is going to be one of the best minion builds of Trial of the Ancestors. This build excels in not only getting your maps clear, but it’s an excellent boss killer. With the new Atlas bosses, this build will not let you down and is described as the most OP minion build of the league. GhazzyTV’s - Zoomancer Necromancer proved itself last League. Having your own army of minions doing all the work for you! Giving good clear speed and consistent bossing damage, the build is perfect for both beginners and veterans alike and a solid league starter choice.
GhazzyTV’s – Dominating Blow Necromancer is an insanely strong league start ability offering a lot of variations for the end game. Thanks to the straightforward design of the ability, we can tweak this build into some pretty juicy defensive styles, allowing it to be a solid first choice for starting a league in Hardcore as well! GhazzyTV’s – Holy Relic Guardian is a very strong minion build that requires very few items to work well. Unlike most summoner builds, Holy Relic plays very differently and it offers a different way of playing summoner. This is a very strong league starter on a budget. TbXie’s Lightning Strike Warden is a well-versed build guide that focuses on durability as well as damage. It has a pretty forgiving entry point and requires almost no gear whilst still providing you with enough potential upgrades to give you a sense of progression. TbXie’s – Cyclone Slayer offers incredibly clear speed and an old overlapping style of scaling its damage to the point where it becomes an absolute powerhouse. For players who like to blast through the game on a budget and want a build that is expandable with an acceptable amount of currency and incredible returns, this is a one-of-a-kind build. TbXie’s – Hexblast Miner Saboteur is a build for you if you've ever wanted to build a miner that does not feel clunky. This build is an insane and obscene powerhouse in the late game but does well for a League Starter also. Pohx’s - Righteous Fire Chieftain has been a staple of the last league starts and solo self-found alike. Righteous Fire has been a true Path of Exile staple since the skill gem was introduced. The concept of running through maps while hordes of monsters die around you is a true Power Fantasy. Pohx’s - Righteous Fire Juggernaut version can easily hold its own. Juggernaut has a much easier time getting the defensive layers online. Also, no need for anything complex as this build is great for first-timers since your main defensive layers come from Armour stacking. If you're new to Righteous Fire, this version is excellent for you.
Velyna’s - Tornado Inquisitor is the build for players who like to harness the elements and unleash them to seek and destroy. Sending out Tornadoes that will chase any nearby enemies. A relaxed play style with high mobility and safety. Velyna’s Explosive Concoction Ascendant is an absolute beast for endgame bossing. The build synergizes very well as a League starter till end game. It has high levels of damage and survivability, giving massive sustain through Life Gain on Hit. A solid league starter with good potential for the end game. Velyna’s Ground Slam Slayer is a strong League Starter not requiring expensive uniques or heavy crafting to kill bosses early, and this remains true today. If you want to cruise through the acts into the endgame quickly and easily, this is the build for you. PoEVault’s – Ice Shot Deadeye is an excellent league starter and requires very little investment to start rolling over maps and bosses. Due to the range and nature of Ice Shot, even content that outstrips your current character or power level can be easily approached at a distance and eliminated. A very good recommended bow build for this League. PoEVault’s – Boneshatter Juggernaut is not the fastest build, but it is sturdy and it smacks things with its big stick. It is one of the very few viable “true melee” builds left in the game and Juggernaut is a natural fit for Boneshatter as Juggernaut becomes a very tanky build. If you love a sturdy melee build, this is a very good league starter for you.
To make your leveling experience easier, you can pick up our Quick Reference Leveling guide.
If you're thinking about getting into Path of Exile (it's free-to-play!) with this newest league, our mods are available to answer any of your questions, so please feel free to join their Discord.
We wish you an amazing league start.

Velyna’s Herald of Agony Champion is an absolute beast for endgame bossing the build synergizes with very well as League starter till end game. If you’re looking for a solid league starter but also a build to invest later in, while feeling safe and doing insane numbers then this is the build for you. TbXie’s - Shockwave Totem Hierophant offers incredibly clear speed and an old overlapping style of scaling its damage to the point where it becomes an absolute powerhouse. TbXie’s - Wintertide Brand Occultist is a build for you if ever wanted to try a damage-over-time (DoT) build that doesn’t feel clunky because it is rather squishy, you’ve come to the right place! This Occultist combines so many layers of Defenses that I’d argue it's nearly unkillable. Pohx’s - Righteous Fire Inquisitor has been a staple of league starts and solo self-found alike. Righteous Fire has been a true Path of Exile staple since the skill gem was introduced. The concept of running through maps while hordes of monsters die around you is a true Power Fantasy. We’d like to give you a few recommendations of what we believe to be some of the strongest league starter builds (although any build tagged as a League Starter and updated for 3.22, is a very solid choice)
Manni’s – Lightning Arrow Deadeye is powerful enough to conveniently progress through the atlas, beat the necessary endgame bosses and efficiently farm all the content needed to upgrade the build further. GhazzyTV’s Mage Skelleton Guardian With this League changes to the Guardian Ascendancy Ghazzy has turned his fan favourite Mage Skelleton build into a Guardian build. This build brings very enjoyable clear speed as well as efficient bossing to the table. A solid League Starter. TbXie’s Firestorm Inquisitor was one of the most popular builds both in league-starting and later environments in Crucible. It is one of those builds that we felt could not be missing. Firestorm is an underrated skill but can be built around in multiple ways for mapping and bossing.
TbXie’s Shockwave Totem Hierophant offers incredibly clear speed and an old overlapping style of scaling its damage to the point where it becomes an absolute powerhouse. For players who like to blast through the game on a budget and want a build that is expandable with an acceptable amount of currency and incredible returns, this is a one of a kind build. TbXie’s Explosive Arrow Ballista Champion has been one of the most popular builds for newer players for the longest of times. Especially after recent tree changes it pushed its single target boss killing capabilities up by quite a significant amount, this build is an excellent one for both new and experienced players alike. Pohx’s Righteous Fire Inquisitor been a staple of league starts and solo self-found alike. Righteous Fire has been a true Path of Exile staple since the skill gem was introduced. The concept of running through maps while hordes of monsters die around you is a true Power Fantasy. Pohx’s Righteous Fire Juggernaut version can easily hold his own. Juggernaut has a much easier time getting the defensive layers online. Also, no need for anything complex as this build is great for first timers since your main defensive layers come from Armour stacking. If your new to Righteous Fire, this version is excellent for you. Velyna’s Spectral Shield Throw Raider is the build for you if like throwing a shield around like Captain America, shattering enemies as it bounces and splinters within packs! Spectral Shield Throw scales DPS based on the armour value of your shield, meaning you don’t need to buy an expensive weapon and an excellent build as league starter. Velyna’s Herald of Agony Champion is an absolute beast for endgame bossing the build synergizes with very well as League starter till end game. It has high levels of damage and survivability gives massive sustain through Life Gain on Hit. A solid league starter with good potential for end game. Velyna’s - Storm Brand Inquisitor offers a smooth campaign experience and a very smooth investment curve throughout early maps and easily helps you farm currency for future upgrades. This build is primarily a mapping build and thrives off creating explosion chains that deletes most of the screen in a satisfying manner. This build is to be suitable for anyone, both new and returning players. PoEVault’s – Corrupting Fever Champion is a premium build that remains a powerhouse league in and league out. If you enjoy dot builds, or you want a welcome change of pace or style, then this build will be more than capable to let you enjoy smashing monsters. Very easy play style and a recommendation for new player. PoEVault’s – Ice Shot Deadeye This build is an excellent league starter and requires very little investment to start rolling over maps and bosses. Due to range and nature of Ice Shot, even content that outstrips your current character or power level can be easily approached at a distance and eliminated. A verry good, recommended bow build for this League. PoEVault’s – Boneshatter Juggernaut is not the fastest build, but it is sturdy and it smacks things with its big stick. It is one of the very few viable “true melee” builds left in the game, and Juggernaut is a natural fit for Boneshatter as Juggernaut becomes a very tanky build. If you love a sturdy melee build this is a very good league starter for you. To make your levelling experience easier, you can pick up our Quick Reference Levelling guide.

Our Recommended Builds for Crucible League
We’d like to give you a few recommendations of what we believe to be some of the strongest league starter builds (although any build tagged as a League Starter and updated for 3.21 is a very solid choice)
GhazzyTV’s Poison Summon Raging Spirits Necromancer is going to be the best minion build of Crucible. This build excels in not only getting your maps clear but it’s an excellent boss killer as well. With the new Atlas bosses, this build will not let you down and is described as the most OP minion build of the league. GhazzyTV’s Zoomancer Necromancer is a new build for this League, having your army of minions doing all the work for you! Giving good clear speed and consistent bossing damage, the build is perfect for both beginners and veterans alike and a solid league starter choice. GhazzyTV’s Mage Skeleton Necromancer is back! With these League changes Ghazzy revived his fan favourite Mage Skeleton build. This build brings a very enjoyable clear speed as well as efficient bossing to the table. A solid League Starter. TbXie’s Cyclone Slayer is back on the table as one of the most popular builds in league-starting and later environments, and is one of those guides that we felt could not be missing. Cyclone is a popular skill and can be built around in multiple ways for mapping and bossing. TbXie’s Shockwave Totem Hierophant offers incredible clear speed and an old overlapping style of scaling its damage to the point where it becomes an absolute powerhouse. For players who like to blast through the game on a budget and want a build that is expandable with an acceptable amount of currency and incredible returns. This is a one-of-a-kind build. TbXie’s Explosive Arrow Ballista Champion has been one of the most popular builds for newer players for the longest of times. Especially after recent tree changes it pushed its single target boss killing capabilities up by quite a significant amount, this build is an excellent one for both new and experienced players alike. Pohx's Righteous Fire Inquisitor has been a staple of League starts and solo self-found alike, ever since the skill gem was introduced. The concept of running through maps while hordes of monsters die around you is a true Power Fantasy. Pohx's Righteous Fire Juggernaut version can easily hold its own. Juggernaut has a much easier time getting the defensive layers online. Also, no need for anything complex, as this build is great for first-timers since your main defensive layers come from armor stacking. If you're new to Righteous Fire, this version is excellent for you. Velyna’s Spectral Shield Throw Raider is the build for you if you like throwing a shield around like Captain America, shattering enemies as it bounces and splinters within packs! Spectral Shield Throw scales DPS based on the armor value of your shield, meaning you don’t need to buy an expensive weapon, and it's an excellent build as League Starter. Velyna’s Ice Trap Saboteur For most of PoE’s history traps have been known as a strong League Starter, not requiring expensive uniques or heavy crafting to kill bosses early, and this remains true today. If you want to Cruise through the acts into endgame quickly and easily this is the build for you. Velyna's Storm Brand Inquisitor offers a smooth campaign experience and a very smooth investment curve throughout early maps and easily helps you farm currency for future upgrades. This is primarily a mapping build and thrives on creating explosion chains that satisfyingly delete most of the screen. This build is suitable for anyone, both new and returning players. CasualDanPoe's Minion Army Necromancer is a cheap League Starter that will enable you to farm tier 16 maps on a budget. Fast, deadly, with a lot of quality of life features. If you’d like to feel like a General of an Undead Army, then try out this League Starter and you’re not going to be disappointed. Corrupting Fever Champion has been a steady choice among mapping-focused players for league start. It’s fast, relatively sturdy, and not too difficult to get going. As a bonus it can be scaled into a true late-game monster if you are willing to invest, through a transition over to Gladiator. Very easy play style and a recommendation for new players. Shield Crush Juggernaut has been popular among the “True Melee” crowd forever. It differs from most skills in that it doesn’t use your weapon to scale damage, and instead opts to scale its damage through the stats on your shield as well as hitting targets with the shield. A solid League Starter. Lacerate Gladiator can reach similar heights on significantly less gear, and with a unique style and flair that few other melee skills have. This is partially because Lacerate is not a true melee skill - in the end game, you will be able to obliterate packs nearly a full screen away. If you like a more melee-style build, be sure to check this one out! To make your leveling experience easier, you can pick up our Quick Reference Levelling guide.
