Faster Legendary Cloak Upgrades

Players who have upgraded their Legendary Cloak to Rank 15 will be able to purchase Malefic Cores for 2,000 Echoes of Ny’alotha, up to the maximum Resistance that the cloak allows.

Blizzard Logo(Source)

Later today, we will apply a hotfix to the game that will allow players who have upgraded the legendary cloak Ashjra’kamas to Rank 15 to purchase Malefic Core Malefic Core from MOTHER for 2,000 Echoes of Ny’alotha. This will be repeatable, up to the maximum that you could have otherwise earned via weekly Horrific Visions or from N’Zoth the Corruptor.

The intent of Malefic Cores was to provide ongoing incremental weekly power gains, to help overcome remaining challenges in this final tier of Battle for Azeroth. This has been similar to past systems in Warlords of Draenor (upgrading the legendary rings via Archimonde drops) and Legion (upgrading trinkets from Argus the Unmaker). While each extra bit of Corruption Resistance only represents a small increase in potential power, we understand the frustration of feeling weeks behind, especially without any controlled way of closing the gap faster. With this hotfix, players can further supplement their progress through the wide variety of endgame content that rewards Echoes of Ny’alotha.

It will still be possible to earn up to two Malefic Cores per week, by fully clearing a Horrific Vision and/or defeating N’Zoth the Corruptor on Normal difficulty or higher.

Thank you!

My understanding of this is as follows:

  • Weekly core for N'zoth kill
  • Weekly core for full Vision clear
  • Cores available at any time from MOTHER for 2K Echoes
  • Cannot apply more cores to cloak than are currently allowed regardless of how many you can earn/purchase

Considering you can earn several cores a week from Echoes alone, this seems like a substantial upgrade over the current 2/week cap.

I think its just a third option; in my case, I barely go to Ny'lotha so I understand I can replace that core with a 2k Echoes's one.

Basically it means that alts can finally catch up on the corruption resistance. Before this, even if you did N'zoth and visions weekly, you would not be able to catch up with the current cap if you started the cloak grind later. Although I wish it wasn't yet another thing to buy with echoes. Already feels bad to 'waste' them buying essences instead of corruption.  Overall still a positive change.

Still not worth it. Killing N'zoth and a non-mask vision is easy enough already. Imagine having a new maxed character and just grinding 10k plus echoes just for essences.... Still not that alt- friendly

This mechanic allows players to catch up to the previous week's progress.
We still have to kill N'Zoth or clear a vision for this week's upgrade.
Catch up FIRST, then get this week's upgrade, or you might still end up one week behind.
Found out the hard way...
I was two weeks behind progress, so this week I needed 3 upgrades. I cleared a vision, then bought my upgrade, and found myself stuck at last week's progress. Beware Beware~

Better than nothing, but why echos... alts are already farming echo's for the damn essences and corruptions, which is why we want the damn resistance in the first place. Just make it drop from Nzoth per difficulty and each full vision...

Honestly that's been the response to all of Blizz's fixes, better than nothing but still not good. I'm glad they're listening to feedback and doing these things, but why is it so... frustrating and late still?

yeah 500 echoes per essence was completly fine in my opinion (luckily i bought all i needed back then) but 2k for the resistance upgrade is worth it if you can ignore weekly cap for +corruption resistance. it might not be that alt friendly but me and my friends who started playing again some weeks ago are at a point where we got all essences and at least i was waiting to increase my corruption resistance so i could apply more +12% mastery corruption. so im happy with that ^^

I stopped raiding NtWC when Guildies lost interest and gotten their AOTC; not really interested in doing Mythic difficulty due to lack of viable Raiders, in the Guild, and would end up filling the Raid with pugs.  So I've been collecting my cores once a week via a 5 mask run in a Horrific Vision on my main.  My alts cloaks vary from 6-14 this would be nice to get them caught up to rank 15.

I'd much rather use that for corruptions than cloak upgrades. A N'zoth kill and a vision weekly is easy done and by now you want to grab those corruptions asap. A better solution would have been that every full clear (with or without masks) rewards a core or you could even use war resources, since by now most people are drowning in them. Piling everything on echoes is yet another mechanic that works against alt- friendlyness. It is not necessarily the resource but the amount. My top geared main has no problem running high keys for the grind but my low level non- meta char might and that's the issue with this system.

well im at 48 corruption and i just got +77 resistance so currently im upgrading my cloack to apply another +12% mastery but i can understand that some classes need corruption which coasts more then stat increaseing corruption

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
