No Mounts or World Quest Markers in the Maw, More than One Legendary Later, Counduit Stacking and Non-Reusablity: More Shadowlands Interview Summaries

Recommended Posts

The interviews didn't stop after our last recap, as several more streamers got to chat with Blizzard devs and we found out some new things and more details on older ones as well! Among the things mentioned in the three interviews were legendary recipe drop location logic, Counduit stacking and then being non-reusable, you'll lose half your Stygia on death, more than one legendary equipable later in the expansion, no mounts or World Quest map markers at all in the Maw and more.

A big chunk of info came from PandaTV's interview with Ion Hazzikostas:

The pre-patch (which we found out will be coming a few weeks before the expansion's release) will see Corruptions going away entirely, while Azerite Essences and Armor will simply be disabled in the Shadowlands. We'll also be getting a blog next week detailing everything that will become unobtainable with the pre-patch.

As for legendaries, the recipe unlocks will be account-wide, drop locations will be related to the legendary effects themselves (so something like Sephuz would be coming from PvP), and as we know legendaries will be earned faster than their Legion counterparts.

Same Counduit stacking in different slots might not be intended, as Ion isn't sure and it seems he prefers them not stacking as it adds more variety.

  • You will get all of the previous floor rewards when finishing your run on any given Torghast floor.
  • There will be a LFG tool update, but not at launch.
  • New seasonal M+ affixes, first one will be easier and you will be able to swap weapons during a M+ run.
  • Class changes will continue into the Beta, there couls till be new abilities and other changes, but no major revamps.

Then we're on to Lordmons' interview with Morgan day, summarized by Wowhead, as the VoD is restricted to subs only:

There is a currency unique to the Maw called Stygia and you lose up to half of what you have on death. There might be some issues balancing that with War Mode.

800px-Arbiter_Ariel_Fain_art.jpg

  • The Pantheon of Death is on par with the Titans, they were part of a group that "established" the Shadowlands and the Arbiter is one of them.
  • We might be able to equip more than one legendary power later on in the expansion.
  • Covenants have cosmetic weapons that correspond with their armor transmog, which you can get via tokens that drop from SSire Denatrius from Castle Nathria.
  • PvP currencies: weekly Conquest cap, vendor, and unlimited Honor gain.

Sloot's interview with Paul Kubit delved deeper into the Maw and Conduits:

Currently the plan is to not allow mounts at all in the Maw, it will be an entire zone on foot so it feels more dangerous. While regular mounts might eventually get introduced, flying will probably never become available. The zone is large so there might be lots of flights paths in there. If they do allow mounts, it will somehow play into the Eye of the Jailer mechanic.

Certain areas of the Maw shouldn't be explored too early (presumably either before endgame or even in item level terms) and there will be signs or debuffs that will let you know you shouldn't be there.

The Maw will be very different from other zones - there will be no World Quest markers on the world map, only on the minimap, adding to the sense of exploration and danger. As you explore it more you'll start remembering where the events/quests spawn and there might be some special items you can buy that will show you nearby events.

The plan for Counduits at the moment is for them to not be reusable aka they will be destroyed when you slot them in over an existing one. They will also have item levels like regular loot.

  • Average stays in the Maw can last from 25-40 minutes.
  • The Eye of the Jailer debuff can be cleared back in your Covenant Sanctum for some Anima.
  • There will probably be Anima catch up.
  • There will be more of the Maw in patches after launch.

I'm sure there will be an addon for that.

I sure hope so.

Also, a non mount zone? Well that's pretty stupid and not fun. Blizzard will never stop their hatred for mounts, this is starting to be seriously annoying.

I would assume so, unless they somehow block it, where you can only see them within a certain proximity from your character - in that, they don't actually "spawn" until you have found them by being close enough or something

This seems to be the sense behind making a dangerous place that ppl will have to watch their steps and not simply ride/fly around and laugh on "mighty" enemys. I personally enjoy it cause that will give ppl a sense of survival skills ?

Hm, seems an addon could only show you the places the events could be, not where they are though? Unless they're on some kind of rotation or if Blizz codes them really poorly and they're able to be detected by an addon, but that would completely defeat the purpose of the system they're building, I mean they know there's mods for everything in their game.

Oh you know it!!!  That's a given.  I'm just wondering how soon after release that will happen.

Is there a long annoying time-gated achievement that gives you the ability to mount there??

It's now called "Renown" and it's ONE thing you have to work on instead of 5 or 6.  Of course flying will probably be a year down the road as usual...  <SIGH>

Bleh the worst part. I'd rather get it after finishing exploring every part of all of the zones and finishing the story missions. Repetitive generic or gimmicky world quest / daily quest faction grinds are boring no matter what you call them.

Why do you care about people you don't know getting "survival skills" ?
It's a game and it's meant to be fun. Creating a zone where you're prevented from using your mount isn't fun, it's just annoying, and makes you waste twice as much time you would take to do the same thing. Welp, at least i'm going to play druid so hopefully i'll have my travel form.

Sense of danger? You do realize that after the 1st content patch, people will overgear the zone and be able to pull everything anyway? No mounts just asinine.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
