The Great Vault in Shadowlands Offers Up to 9 Item Choices Weekly

The weekly chest in Shadowlands will no longer be limited to just Mythic dungeons, allowing you to unlock gear from PvP and raiding. The Great Vault offers up to 9 choices that you unlock by completing various objectives.

Freedom of Choice

The weekly chest has been upgraded in Shadowlands to give players more choice. Instead of receiving one preset item, you will be able to select a single reward from a pool of up to nine items, depending on the activities you complete each week.

As you can see above, the weekly chest is no longer limited to just Mythic Dungeons and includes raids and PvP.

Great Vault Objectives

To unlock more choices/slots, you must complete the following objectives:

 Raids

  • Slot #1: Defeat 3 Raid Bosses,
  • Slot #2: Defeat 7 Raid Bosses
  • Slot #3: Defeat 10 Raid Bosses

Mythic Dungeons

  • Slot #4: Complete 1 Mythic Dungeon
  • Slot #5: Complete 5 Mythic Dungeons
  • Slot #6: Complete 15 Mythic Dungeons

PvP

  • Slot #7: Earn 100 Conquest Points
  • Slot #8: Earn 150 Conquest Points
  • Slot #9: Earn 250 Conquest Points

Note that you can still pick only ONE REWARD from the Great Vault every week. Completing the objectives unlocks more choices.

Rewards Scaling

Based on the datamined global strings from Beta Build 35360, you will be able to increase the item level of your weekly rewards by:

  • Completing higher level Mythic dungeons;
    • The item level will be based on the lowest level of your top run.
      • WEEKLY_REWARDS_COMPLETE_MYTHIC_SHORT - Complete higher level Mythic dungeons to increase this reward's Item Level.
      • WEEKLY_REWARDS_COMPLETE_MYTHIC - Complete Mythic Level %1$d dungeons. The reward is based on the lowest level of your top %2$d runs.
  • Defeating raid bosses on higher difficulties;
    • The item level of rewards is based on raid difficulty.
      • WEEKLY_REWARDS_COMPLETE_RAID - Complete this activity on %s difficulty.
  • Earning a higher bracket win that week.
    • Item level will be based on your highest bracket win that week.
      • CONQUEST_PVP_WEEK_ADDITIONAL_CHEST - Earn an additional %s Conquest this week to unlock a Great Vault reward (item level %s).
      • RATED_PVP_WEEKLY_VAULT_TOOLTIP - %s/%s rewards unlocked this week.\n\nThe item level of your Great Vault reward is %s, based on your highest bracket win this week (%s).

Community Feedback & Discussions

The community is already discussing the new weekly chest on Reddit and some Redditors consider 15 Mythic dungeons per week too much. I, for one, am really excited to see more items to choose from in my weekly chest! We're still in Beta so the objectives are likely to change.

After experiencing the joy of getting subpar gloves from weekly mythic chest for two months straight, anything seems like a nice alternative.
It is one drop instead of two, but given what pvp balanacing looked like, I am ok with that and skipping on arenas completely. Or perhaps doing couple dailies in favour of at least 100 CP.
I can't see this change in a negative light. Although 15 mythics might be a bit too much, but then - you really don't have to, pick of 2 still beats the old weekly chest by a landslide. Just crossing fingers it's not going to be the two of a same item.
edit: I can imagine people rushing low keys just for the sake of speeding the 15 mythic run requirement past doing their weekly +10ish, I guess they'll be more motivated to boost?

Was explaining this to another Guildie of mine and on average when we have enough active players online we typically run 10-15 key runs weekly.  Raiding on avg 1-3 bosses per two Raid nights a week pending on level of progression.  And the PvP is at everyone's leisure since the Guild is not highly focus on PvP as part of endgame content.  So this is way more friendly than relying on the bad rng in BFA to get items to compliment build types on mains and alts a like.

I mean, if you dislike all portions of Endgame content, then this probably never in your field of view in the first place. Each player enjoys what they like/dislike, but you just excluded all Endgame and want Endgame gear for...?

then why do you need the chest if you hate all the end game content?

simply stay with the average gear and you will be fine for open world activities!

I love this. Raiding is all I'm here for and I hate being forced to run Mythics for gear drops. I'm very happy for this change.

Although it's easy to see this in the light of convenience, I think more quantifiably it increases your speed of gearing, doesn't it? More choices means less waste. 

And from that angle it makes sense to me, because 15 mythics isn't necessarily a tickbox which everyone should be aiming for -- it's also about speeding up the people who really push an activity. 

Doofs like me who do 1 Mythic a week (maybe) have a chance to get a good item. People who do several get a very good chance for a good item. People who do loads of Mythics can practically guarantee a good item. Same with raids -- people who do a wing, people who do half a raid, people who do a whole raid. No idea how the conquest relates in SL. 

It seems fair to me.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it drop by 2 or 3 though.

  • Slot #11: Do 20 transmog runs
  • Slot #12: Do transmog runs for all raids and dungeons you currently have an unobtainable appearance in.

 

  • Slot #13: RP for 2 hours
  • Slot #14: RP for 5 hours
  • Slot #15: RP until your sentences are unintelligible. 

 

  • Slot #16: Fly in circles for 1/2 an hour
  • Slot #17: Fly in circles for 2 hours
  • Slot #18: Have you considered getting a life?

On the one hand, love that we're being given a way to get choice, it's a great help when compared to the current method, especially with loot drops being reduced in SL. Logged in today for 7 chests, and rubbish in 6/7, woooo.

Given the ilvl is by highest run i.e a +15 or mythic boss kill, it's good, actually promotes helping in easier content to get the dungeon number or raid kills. Scrap that, we need to do 15 +15's to get 3 choices of +15 loot? WHAT THE HELL? I get it in theory but in practice WTF?

BUT

It seems too much, especially if you want to have alts, so far this expac looks SO alt unfriendly, yet seems like they're a must have with the 4 covenant options...

Most of the time I do maybe the 3 mythic bosses in a pug, and 1 M+ atm, on 3/4 alts, and just a M+ on the rest. Main will do w.e we do in raid. Even doing 5 mythics will be tedious. 

 

Who the hell keeps greenlighting these systems? There's so many now that scream great, exactly what the community want, but with a major draw back. Corruption vendor (rotation...), cloak catch up (originally only 2 per week, then costs echo's), now this too.

I agree, i am surprised that they went with 15 runs. I mean, seeing this great vault, They should go with 1/4/10, so that you get at least the second tier, when you finish the 4 dungeons for weekly dungeon quest. i would have thought that it doesnt count, how high you play the level. So i would do a +15 and speed run +2s to get more items. But what i see as well, if they dont lower the dungeon count needed, that raiding would be easier to fill if difficulty doesnt matter. just breezing through 3 lfr wings to get the 10 bosses.

But if it is really like Bobbis said, how would that even work? i mean, lets say i finished a +15 for the item level, what would happen if i run lower level dungeons afterwards? thye dont count into the vault? or do they give me lower level items? both dont seem to make sense, and to communicate this via the interface would be a bit unintuitive.

I don't think it will be like do 15mythic dungeons per week.
I mean, you will be able to do 15 time m0 but there must be something like keys 0-3 counts as 1 mythic, 4-6 as 2, 7-9 as 3 etc.
I can't imagine people really doing m0 15times as speed runs and see casuals couldn't find group m0 because in lfd will looks like: "EASYDUNG +0 ONLY +2k IO RATIO"

There is a clearer post now on IV, Just do a +15, get 1 +15 item, do a 15, 3 10's and a 9, get a "choice" between the +15 and +9 item. Do 3 15's, 6 12's, 5 10's and a 9, get the "choice" between a +15, a +12, and a +9. I say "choice" like that because it's not really a choice, 9/10 times it'll be the ilvl you go for unless the lower one is something amazing.

This is the part I'm annoyed with, it's a choice but not really.

Patch 9.1.3:

We've received a lot of feedback that the number of activities required to maximise your Great Vault choices for the week feels too high. While we intend for the Great Vault to reward the effort of the most dedicated players, we agree that the objectives could do with some tweaking. We've done a tuning pass and feel these changes will promote a healthier playstyle for unlocking your rewards going forward. 

  • Slot #1: Defeat 2 Raid Bosses. (Down from 3)

 

  • Slot #5: Complete 4 Mythic Dungeons (Down from 5)

 

  • Slot #17: Fly in circles for 3 hours (Up from 2)
  • Slot #18: Dance on Mailboxes or on Auction House Steps for 3 hours. (Down from getting a life)

 Just figure like someone else said doing 15 +15's seems excessive if you are running those, unless they want people to do low level ones just to get done faster.

      Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
      We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
      Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

      Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
      The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
      The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

      All Percentiles
      As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

      U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
      Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.

      For the next two weeks, the Archaeology quest for Spirit of Eche'ro is available on live servers, so don't forget to get the rare mount before it's gone for 6 months!
      How to Get the Spirit of Eche'ro Mount
      1. Download MapCoords or some other add-os that displays coordinates in the game.
      2. Teleport to Azsuna from the Stormwind/Orgrimmar Portal Room or use your Dalaran Hearthstone to reach Dalaran (Legion) if you have one in your inventory.
      3. Seek out Archaeology Trainer Dariness the Learned in Dalaran at 41,26 and learn Archaeology if you already haven't.
      4. Accept The Right Path quest from the Archaeology Trainer and make your way to Thunder Totem in Highmountain.
      5. Talk to Lessah Moonwater to accept Laying to Rest. For the quest, you must collect 600 Bone Fragments of Eche'ro by rotating between four digsites in Highmountain. The exact locations with coords are outlined below.
      Digsite 1: Darkfeather Valley (50, 44) Digsite 2: Dragon's Falls (58, 72) Digsite 3: Path of Huin (44, 72) Digsite 4: Whitewater Wash (39, 65) it takes roughly around 2 hours to get the mount.
      Spirit of Eche'ro
      "The spirit of Huln Highmountain's pet moose."

      Hurry up! You only have until August 21, 2024, to get the mount!

      MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
      With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

      We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
      When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
      MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
