wow Gated Content After 10 Years: Ordos and the Timeless Isle

Ordos, the world boss, located on the Timeless Isle, remains after 10 years, still accessible only if you completed the Legendary Cloak quest line with at least one character back in Mists of Pandaria.

Back in 2014, Blizzard made an effort to revert the change and give access to Ordon Sanctuary or eligibility for loot from Ordos to everyone, but the change soon got reverted.

Blizzard commented that they wanted Ordos and the Ordon Sanctuary area to remain a special reward for players who completed the Legendary Cloak questline.

Edit: The change below has been reverted. Eligibility for loot from defeating Ordos has not changed. It still requires one of the characters on an account license to have obtained the Legendary Cloak.

Edit 2: Got clarification on the reasoning for reverting the change.

We wanted Ordos and the Ordon Sanctuary area to remain a special reward for players who completed the Legendary Cloak questline. Giving everyone access would reduce the incentive for players already on the questline to complete it before the Legendary Cloak quest line goes away entirely. For those worried about Transmogrification, models for items that drop from Ordos can be obtained from other sources.

The blue post isn't entirely true; it seems. Reddit user diagas pointed out Ordos drops unique items that you cannot get elsewhere, so if you haven't obtained the clock before the questline has been removed, you are out of luck.

You can't get Olivia's Graceful Gaze from anywhere else, but Ordos and the Prideful Gladiator's Linked Helm (Tier 15 Shaman lookalike) isn't available for other classes than Shamans.

An unpopular opinion: They should leave it like that. Some interesting locations/transmogs/... should be available only for those actively playing the specific needed content. The streamlining they do is, in my opinion, bad for the game.

I don't have a problem with it only being available to a specific group, I just wish they would make it clear in game that that's the case. It's very easy to burn hours on trying to get to the content to then just have the chain disappear with no explanation.

That is true. Im with you on that. Communicate those things and everything is fine, like they do with the cutting edge achievements etc.

That's wrong since last Patch Olivia's Graceful Gaze is aquireable through Blackmarket Auctionhouse with a starting bet of 10k Gold.

I think there's a point where it stops feeling (as much, not entirely)like  a cool reward and starts feeling more (again, not entirely) like a bit of a waste. I think Ordos has always fallen into this category since MoP ended. I wouldn't be at all in favour of making the Legendary cloak appearances available again, but I think Ordos is just an oddity. He was meant to provide big gear and that's now redundant. The experience and appearances weren't really in the viewfinder at all. 

I kinda think the class hall sets in Legion were really really a good move. They didn't remove the specialness of the challenge mode sets, they presumably weren't half as much work as making a new set for Blizzard, and for those of us who never did challenge modes they were a cool way to obtain a similar appearance. I think they should do that sort of thing much more often.

10 years? But said patch only came out like 7 years ago. But yeah, it does feel pointless and should have been changed. Even though I have that cloak, it shouldn't remain gated.

Well, at least it is not a hard-gated area, throw in a glider and it becomes accessible.
I used to run (on water) to the outer seas to fly upwards and then glider in to the highland pond for that rare.
Much faster than the seagull route. ?

Nevermind me today.... ?  It is just, i tried it out so often and then just leave it completely. All the stuff of Ordos i really want, i can still accquire from Blackmarket Auctionhouse.

If anyone REALLY cares about this (Except maybe shaman for the Tmog) then you do not your prioritys straight and need to look in the mirror and evaluate what actually matters.

You can easily get to him without having done the cloak by sitting in a multi passenger mount with someone who has.
