The Helm of Domination's True Purpose: Shadowlands Collector's Edition Unboxing

Recommended Posts

pGrDo8f.jpg

As the Shadowlands Collector's editions have begun arriving to some players, we have a full unboxing video from Broxh, as he goes through all the components of the package, focusing on the amazing art book in particular. As he was going through the whole thing, many parts of the text were very difficult to read, however a few particularly interesting ones were clear enough.
Obviously potential spoilers ahead.

First and foremost a very short blurb seems to give us insight into the true purpose of the Helm of Domination, as it was written before it was shattered, seemingly by the Jailer himself or someone close to him:

Quote

The veil between realms wanes. The Helm of Domination was created to be our way forward. Instead, the one seared by the flames of life uses it to keep us at bay.

K9G0w1K.png

It was never quite clear why the sky above Icecrown exploded in relation to the Helm and this somewhat explains it, as the Helm was always meant to be a way for the Jailer to come to our world (whether to Azeroth in particular or just the material realm itself is unclear), but Bolvar (and presumably Arthas and Ner'zhul as well) were preventing that from happening. And so the Jailer made a deal with Sylvanas, gave her power (presumably needing all that death from Battle for Azeroth to be able to give her enough) so she could go and take out Bolvar and open the way. Whether Arthas and Ner'zhul were also a problem for the Jailer is unclear, as his plans perhaps weren't quite ready to execute during their stay as Lich King.

We already know that both the Helm and Frostmourne came to Azeroth via Dreadlord intervention, that they originally came from the Maw/the mysterious Runecarver, and we've also already talked about the Nathrezim's greater involvement with all the main plots of Warcraft here.

There's plenty more in the unboxing, with some really awesome art (as has become customary with WoW and the amazing art team), a mention of Sylvanas Val'kyrs and how she got them from the Jailer, and we get to see Bolvar at the beginning and end of the book, as we already know he will be our guide into the Shadowlands.

Source.

not shocked at all about any of this since the "story"/"lore" team keep retconing everything so while the CE looks great all the lore stuff is really w/e atp

We don't know if this is a "retcon" though, considering what's been told in Chronicle Vol.3 all we knew was Nathrezim helped to craft both Helm of Domination and Frostmourne in the Shadowlands. More likely this can be seen as a hidden and previously unrevealed information about how and why that has happened.

Especially after "Enemy Infiltration" has been revealed this becomes even more proof that Nathrezim were indeed behind all this and they were actually agents of the Death in the first place, just acting like members of the Legion.

this only works if you assume this was previously hidden information, we both know it wasn't they had no idea about a jailor or anything back during wrath or especially frozen throne. how do you know this? they literally have retcons with in the same expansion, the novella that launch with BfA collectors is already out dated by the retcons made in the SAME expansion. it's just sad at this point

I personally wouldn't call it a retcon unless it is actively contradicts the previous lore. Helm and FMourne came from Nathrezim one way or the other. And Nathrezim lie. A lot.

the real retcon is removing Garrosh's expletive towards Sylvanas in Silverpine!! ?

on topic I agree with the side that they're getting a bit too wacky with their explanations of mysteries.

sometimes, mysteries are better left as mysteries.

Besides that it was never mentioned in WC3 or TFT or WoW where the Helm or Frostmourne has come from
we always assumed it was legion crafted but there was never a source for that assumtion
so per definition it cant be recton because the lore wasn't changed it was simple not know.

But ppl love flaming blizz for anything cant understand all that hate
if u dislike a company then simply dont support them and ignore them its a fact

but i assume those kinda ppl have nothing better to do in there life then flaming blizz for recton no matter if its true or not

what i am interested in is a possible legion involvment we know the dreadlords are connected to the shadowlands in a way but why would they help the legion? or become part of it
and is there a connection legion / jailor? could it be that the jailer and sargeras are on the same side?
sargeras itself was not evil in terms of chaotic evil he was evil on our point of view but in his point of view he was not evil he did what he has to do in order to protect his kind the titans form beeing corrupted by the old gods or the void lords in a larger picture

wonder whats the jailers point? why does he want to azeroth / mortal realm? whats in there for sylvanas?

there plenty of questions remain and i hope we get at least some answers in shadowlands bc's bfa has not given us many
bfa has given us more questions than answers

As far as the retcon discussion, yea this isn't a retcon, it's just poking into old lore and expanding it (in a bad way IMO), but even if it was a retcon this *filtered* has been happening since TBC - remember when it was the Eredar that corrupted Sargeras to begin with? No? Well there you go, retcons only last until people completely forget.

So basicly what you are saying is that a written story, should have it's entire detailed story planned out in advance - till the very end? Interesting ?

A good retcon given that the eredar did it first. They aren't nearly as evil and cunning as the dreadlords.

you should have an idea, you know what you get when you don't have an idea? BfA, rise of skywalker, Dr Who season 12, stuff that isn't only terrible on it's own but retroactively goes back and ruins moments from the story when the story was actually well written and planed out.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
