The Sequel: Player Keeps All Items and Gold from Leveling 10-50

Aaand we're back. Welcome to another installment of the "weird things people do" / "I never even thought of what that would look like" series, as we have a sequel to the original "Player Keeps All Items and Gold from Leveling 20-120". This time around we get to actually compare the two and get a pretty good look at how much less stuff (and, more importantly, gold) we get from leveling an Allied Race to the max level, but also keep in mind that it takes a LOT less time. So just to reiterate the premise, you level up without selling anything and without spending any gold from that particular character (you can send money from another for bank slots, riding etc).

Soapy_99 is back with his followup and his tally this time is 360 item slots (so without calculating the individual items in a stack) and 5432 gold from loot and quest rewards! This is compared with the ~603 Item slots, 9957 gold before selling anything  and 13937 Gold 91 Silver 16 Copper after, for the 20-120 run before the pre-patch aka this:

So, the post-squish totals are around 60% of the pre-squish, but should take considerably less time, so in the end it seems the squish has increased our general earnings, at least during leveling - which is the primary activity for a lot of players in the pre-patch.

We thank Soapy_99 for this particular experiment, and are looking forward to seeing what other strange things this end of BfA period brings us!

With the level squish I imagine I'm going to see more of Guildies trying to deposit previous expansion items from leveling their alts into the Guild Bank tabs.

I've had to spend hours cleaning and organizing the Guild Bank during BFA because people literally would add crap from previous expansions to the tabs.   I've repeated constantly that these items were useless and do not help in creating items needed for BFA content like potions, gems, scrolls, food, feasts, and etc.  Did a complete Bank purge to prep for items in SL for Guild use and stated if anyone starts adding previous expansion items again to the tabs I will be revoking their Guild Bank privileges for a month and clogging their mailbox with useless junk.

And I won't except the following statement, "we might need it or someone may need it for later for crafting."

I don't understand what she/he was trying to prove or why she/he did this.  Why did she/he do this thing?

Less quests and less levels result in less rewards?

I don't understand, was the expectation that less quests and less levels would result in more rewards?

Was this done just to take some screenshots?

Was this done because its covid-19 time and nothing matters so why not?

The only thing that makes sense to me is that its covid-19 time and we are all bored so lets take some screenshots and post them on a forum.

I limit guild bank contributions to officers only. If someone wants to contribute items to the bank, they go through their class officer who will determine the value to the guild. It has worked well for us.

That said, there is still demand for old school mats and gear for T-Mog so, if someone is offering up someone that may have any level of value, it can always be AH'd and the gold added to the guild coffers. Any single, trustworthy, guildie can be in charge of the "AH tab".

I believe they did it to show the difference in what we get leveling post-patch versus how it was pre-patch. It is meant to highlight how leveling a single character is far less lucrative in the short-term than it once was. Pre-patch, it was worth it to just always be leveling characters, even starting at 20, to max because you could make upwards of 20k gold per character by the time you dinged 120. So, it's a big hit for folks that used that as their primary means of gold-making.

But the article clearly states that leveling is even more lucrative now, as whilst obviously a lower max level results in less gold and loot, it equally obviously results in less time spent, which, as this article claims, more than makes up for it.

So more gold earned more quickly. How is that a big hit?

I think it was just a bit of fun while leveling, and it's an interesting visual and general data, so I thought it was interesting enough to post, since a lot of people were interested in the first one.

The article assumes the reader intends to utilize other means to make gold aside from leveling. My statement specifically states this being a "big hit" for people who leveled characters as their primary means of gold-making.

Yes, I get that this is your point, but I believe it is factually wrong, as the article implies. If in the same time it would have taken to level up one character to 120 and earn 20k gold, you can now train one character to level 60 and another to level 40 or so on top of that and earn for example 22k gold in total, then you obviously still make more money in less time, even and especially if that is your prefered method of making gold.

From my experience, the increased leveling speed means fewer quests to complete, which means fewer rewards and drops. Now, if you also take advantage of heirloom armor to maximize reselling of item drops while leveling, you are out considerably post-patch versus pre-patch. Keep in mind, I'm not even considering the coin loss from fewer quest rewards and coin drops from mobs. It all adds up.

I do understand the faster leveling means you max out quicker, and so can level more characters to max faster but, it isn't about going from 1-60, it's about what you get in that time. Compared to 1-120, it doesn't even come close now. I'm not complaining though, it's just unfortunate that I had a system that allowed me to avoid the AH for the most part (my guild utilizes the AH to keep the bank full for repairs and such) and now I need to find other ways to fill the gap.

No one is disputing that you earn less in 60 levels than in 120. You're making up a straw man to argue against. The argument the article and I are making is, that with the same amount of time spent, you can make equally as much or even more gold now.

But okay, if you violate the rules of time and space and decide that no matter the actual time anything takes, you only have time to level one character to max level, then you indeed have a point.

But then it's still only a big hit to your very specific gold making ideology and not one in general. And I'm not judging. I have my WoW rituals as well and would be dissapointed if they were nerfed in a way. It's just that you made it seem as if gold making through leveling was nerfed in general, for which I don't see any evidence.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
