Scourge Invasion Event Has Been Buffed on Live Servers

Recommended Posts

A while ago during the pre-patch PTR I wrote an article on how the Sourge event was massively nerfed after the initial mayhem it caused on the test realm. We went from scenes like this:

grkrh81a4hg51.jpg?width=1024&auto=webp&s

To basically having to look around a capital really hard to even find 1 zombie.

But, Blizzard seem to have changed how the event works now that it's arrived on live servers. One simple tweak has made the event more dangerous and game-changing, as some players are reporting being flagged for PvP as soon as they enter their capitals. This means that they are vulnerable to zombie attack, as previously on the PTR you had to opt-in to PvP to be in any danger whatsoever. However, this didn't work when we tested it ourselves, but this could be due to NA servers having received the update while EU haven't (although we did receive the ICC rare spawn timer hotfix).

Even if it is happening, it seems that you can still turn PvP/War Mode off, since you're in the capital, so it would still be a pretty weak buff. New players also receive a buff making them safe after exiting Exile's Reach, so it's not too overwhelming for them in any case.

The actual zombies themselves are also pretty underpowered, and it's not that easy to get players and NPCs infected, but at least with this change it's possible. There's also plenty of potential for mischief, with summons and hearthstoning not removing the infection, so that players can perhaps spread it to less populated areas where they have a chance to survive longer.

Another thing that may be happening soon is the zombies themselves getting stronger, as that's how it worked back in the WotLK event, as they grew more powerful as the event continued. We don't really have a lot of time left in the event, however, so we're hoping if this happens it'll start soon.

The change has seemed to cause at least some proper havoc in some places, with the denizens of several servers sharing several cool images from the invasion, which is now an actual invasion!

Moon Guard in particular had a pretty nasty outbreak, but seeing as it's an RP server, and famous for its RP events, so they may have cooked these up themselves, but they're still great nonetheless!

It's not all as dangerous as it seems, as some servers can handle the outbreaks before they get too intense as well:

So, in closing, while the auto-PvP flagging is a step in the right direction, we're hoping Blizzard amps the event up even more and we get to see some real mayhem before we head into the Shadowlands!

I fail to see how forcing someone into an activity they have no interest in is "a step in the right direction"...

Because in order for this event to work and for it to portray what Blizzard want it to (a massive invasion of undead throughout Azeroth), it could not function as an "opt-in" event where the majority of players are completely immune to it... It only lasts a few days so it's not too big a deal.

Sorry ‘it only lasts a few days it’s not a big deal’ is how the last one got cancelled it has to be opt in or nothing

How is coming back after 7 months and the first thing that's happens when I log into SW is being forced into PvP mode so I then get ganked so repeatedly that I want to quit the game again "not a big deal"  There are dozens of other ways to portray a massive wave of undead other than forcing people into PvP.  This event doesn't make it feel like there is a massive undead invasion, it just makes it seem like Blizz and a lot of players are jerks who enjoy ganking the people who've played the game for years with no interest in PvP and reinforces the belief that Blizz is completely tone-deaf to players and what they actually  want.  If you have to force people into participating in an event there is nothing epic about it other than the ineptitude of the people who designed the event

Welcome to modern Blizzard. Pick between 3 for every "feature":

 - Doesn't work

 - Half-@ssed (come on IV even that word is PG13, wtf?)

 - Too early

 - Nerfed and buffed and nerfbuffed again.

 - Forced down your throat

 - Promises unfulfilled

 - Expensive/P2W (HearthStone)

 - 15 years too late (i.e. banning multiboxing)

That is a very bad excuse, sorry but if they are going to FORCE players into pvp, i will have to say this: Blizzard can go F themselves. IF they keep doing this during stupid and dumb and utterly pointless events, the game will get closer and closer to dying.

if it cant work without forcing pvp on players then its not working at all cause this is not a pvp game this is a game with the option to pvp and if blizz robs me of the choice just because no one works there who has the brain to come up with a funny way to to it with npc they shueld just cut the zombie thing an give us mor nice story quest to enjoy and lead us to the next xpac

every one who supports and trys to justify forct pvp is most likely some one who liked the old days of pvp serves and misses ruining the game for people not ito this crap its worse enough npcs are giong to die over and over so you cant turn in a quest or look at the auction house

The best way to have done this is to use War Mode as the way to do the event.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
