Blizzard have just announced their plans for the esports side of WoW for 2021, as we get tons of details on the AWC and MDI competition throughout the next year! The AWC gets two seasons, the signups for the first one starting today, and the MDI follows suit with two seasons of its own, starting on January 14th. There will also be two standalone tournaments for the MDI, showcasing some different rules and approaches to the dungeons.

The prize pools will consist of $750,000 for the MDI and the SWC $500,000.

We are planning some fantastic changes to the Arena World Championship and Mythic Dungeon International in 2021 to take full advantage of all that Shadowlands has to offer.

Despite a turbulent 2020, the World of Warcraft esports team is thrilled with the community’s response to the changes made to both Arena World Championship and Mythic Dungeon International programs. While players explore the realms of the Shadowlands, we will be expanding on what worked in 2020 and offering some fun changes to make 2021 another epic year for World of Warcraft Esports!

ARENA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

With the launch of the fourteenth year of the Arena World Championship (AWC), we are expanding to two seasons of epic PvP competition. In 2021, the AWC will consist of two seasons culminating in the AWC: Shadowlands 2021 Grand Finals next Fall, with a $900,000 (USD) total prize pool up for grabs for the year!

SEASON 1

Beginning today, teams in North America and Europe can sign up on GameBattles for the Season 1 open Cups. In addition to a $10,000 (USD) prize pool per cup, teams will be competing for points. The top eight point-earning teams from both North America and Europe will advance to the Circuit following the conclusion of all four cups.  The Circuit will consist of a four-week round robin and total prize pool of $160,000 (USD). Following the Circuit, the top four teams from each region will earn their spots in the Season 1 Finals and a shot at the $200,000 prize pool (USD)!

RELEGATION & SEASON 2

Once the Season 1 champions have been crowned, it’ll be time to set the stage for Season 2. Instead of another series of open cups, the top six regional teams from the Season 1 Circuit will automatically advance to the Season 2 Circuit, while the remaining spots will be filled through an open Relegation Cup. The Relegation Cup will consist of the bottom two teams from the North American and European Season 1 Circuit, battling against an open field of competitors looking to secure a shot in Season 2.  The top two teams from each region at the end of the cup will advance to the Season 2 Circuit.

Like in Season 1, the remaining teams in North America and Europe will be fighting for their share of the $160,000 (USD) total prize pool and one of the four regional slots in the finals. The final teams to advance will not only be fighting for the expanded $300,000 (USD) prize pool, but to cement their names as the AWC: Shadowlands 2021 Grand Finals Champions!

MYTHIC DUNGEON INTERNATIONAL

Following the continued success of the Mythic Dungeon International (MDI), and with new dungeons in Shadowlands to challenge players, we are removing regional distinctions to create a truly global competition by removing regional distinctions.  The MDI in 2021 will consist of two standalone seasons—each concluding in an epic Global Finals—and one-off tournaments, providing players from around the world multiple chances to take home their share of over $750,000 (USD) in prizing!

MDI GOES GLOBAL

In 2021, we are separating China into it’s own program while players from across the rest of the world will now compete in a distinct global MDI region across two seasons. Each season will consist of four Cups, culminating in a Global Finals. To compete, teams will register for Time Trials, from which the top eight global teams each week advance to an MDI Cup. Teams will earn points based on how well they do, in addition to competing for a share of each Cup’s $20,000 (USD) prize pool. At the end of four Cups, the six teams with the most points will advance to the Global Finals. In addition to the top six Global teams, two more will join the Global Finals from a dedicated China MDI season. These eight teams will battle it out for their share of the $300,000 (USD) prize pool and title of MDI Global Champion!

The first MDI 2021 season begins on January 14, and sign-ups are now open, so head over to GameBattles to register!

ONE-OFF EVENTS

Beyond the two MDI seasons, 2021 will feature two one-off tournaments for players to tackle the dungeons of Shadowlands in unique ways. These tournaments will showcase different competitive formats and provide unique new looks on competitive dungeon running. Be on the lookout for more information over the coming months!

NEW SEASONAL AFFIX: PRIDEFUL

Prideful – The first affix for Shadowlands’ first season is Prideful. While the Prideful affix is active, players will overflow with pride as they defeat non-boss enemies, eventually forming a Manifestation of Pride. Upon defeating this Manifestation, players will become greatly empowered, opening new strategies that will help your party defeat the challenges ahead.

NEW DUNGEONS

Shadowlands brings eight brand new dungeons for MDI teams to run! Head over to our Shadowlands dungeons article to check out everything you need to know to know about the dungeons in World of Warcraft’s newest expansion.

Looking Forward

We can’t wait to get the Shadowlands competitions underway, so be sure to sign up for the AWC and MDI Cups on GameBattles. Stay connected and stay on top of the latest news by subscribing to our YouTube channel and the following the WoW Esports Twitter.

Good luck and have fun!

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
