5 Quality of Life Improvements for Shadowlands

Recommended Posts

Here are some quality of life changes we would like to see in Shadowlands.

Maw Intro Skip

The Shadowlands Intro questline cannot be skipped currently. The worst thing about the intro is that you spend 75% of the time just listening to RP and what the NPCs have to say. Many players would appreciate it if they could skip it on alts and if Threads of Fate, the Adventure Mode leveling system, began at Icecrown Citadel. Let's keep our fingers crossed for Patch 9.1...

Legendary Power Recipes

Memories, or Legendary Power recipes, currently drop from various bosses inside a dungeon, making many players leave in the middle of the run if they don't drop. A nice quality-of-life change would be if only end-of-dungeon bosses dropped them. All players would stay in the group to finish the dungeon that way.

Torghast Quests & Soul Ash Catch-Up

Bolvar will offer you only 1 quest per week, so if you just started playing the game, it will take a long time to unlock Twisting Corridors and complete the whole questline.

Soul Ash, the currency needed to craft Legendaries, has no catch-up system either. One might argue that with all Torghast layers open, you don't need it, but it might become an issue when everyone has multiple Rank 4 Legendaries, and they become an entry point for raiding, and you start playing.

Phantasma

Phantasma should fly to you by itself, similar to how it does when you destroy Ashen Phylacteries in Torghast, and you shouldn't waste time looting it from mobs.

Account-Wide Reputation

It's really a pity that we don't have an account-wide reputation system yet in WoW. It would be cool if there was a system that lets us focus on the endgame, and we wouldn't need to farm the same boring reputation on our third alt over and over again.

Mists of Pandaria commendations were a good system that shouldn't have been abandoned. You unlocked them after hitting Revered and unlocked 100% bonus reputation gain with the factions for all characters on the account.

Can you think of any other suggestions you would add to the list?

The Soul Ash catch up is so necessary, because since WoD I became very discouraged to play alts because a single character already requires so much time sink with stuff like mission tables, artifact power grinding, and now soul ash. This should also be the case for anima, to be honest.

Maw still needs their promised revamp.    All they did in the time after making the statement was add some dailies and new Venari purchases (mostly for torghast).     It's still a slow-*filtered* grind with too much on foot walking to be any fun for non druids/worgen/shaman.    The possible mount drop or twisted corridors reward are too lengthy to get even now unless extremely lucky on the drop

Soul ash catchup is so neccesary its unreal. Don't think anyone would suffer from it and the game would become healthier for alts and multi speccs.

Frankly I'd also add it as reward from any endgame (pvp, m+, raiding), so people who really just don't like torghast don't have to do it.

Account-wide rep is a must for every expac, escpecially if you're timegating stuff or rep locking recipes etc etc. Also, bring back that damn Flight Master's Whistle.

Overall, Torghast is pretty boring, so I would welcome any interesting additions to it. Totally agree about legendary power drops, weird they didn't see it coming. It was obvious that they needed to put those legendary powers on last bosses, very easy solution to stop people from leaving early.

The Maw could use many improvements, including more points for fast travel and they should add some reputation dailies. Never liked that cramped design, can't go anywhere without pulling groups of mobs.

So many times I've gotten stuck and had to hearth to get out. All kinds of nooks and crannys to be honest.

It is like Blizzard doesn't internally test their stuff. I've ran into some situations like that and it is indeed very infuriating. One of them was inside Torghast, where I was halfway through a solo tier 5 run and got that Anima Power that prevents you from jumping, and I got feared to a small nook and almost couldn't get out; only managed to get unstuck thanks to Moonkin's Flap spell.

Totally agree on all of these, but I created an account specifically to comment about how MUCH I agree with the Reputation bit.

As someone who has the Beloved title, the fact that Reputations aren't just account-wide boggles my mind.

  • All transmog rewards from Reputation are account wide.
  • All title rewards from Reputation are account wide.
  • In the Maw, all Torghast upgrades are account-wide.

Why just not make the whole thing account-wide? Is Blizzard worried about Paragon chests? Maybe they're worried about Reputations that some characters can't have, like making Alliance reputations account-wide on the Horde by accident, or Court of Night for non-Night Fae characters? All of that seems trivial, and the places where Rep isn't account-wide, like purchasing crafting recipes or unlocking Legion artifact appearances, just creates unnecessary friction.

Mate, it's the 2nd month of the expansion, what the *filtered* do you need to catch up to now? I agree that in 9.1 they should add catch-up mechanics for the Bolvar Quests, Soul Ash, stygia, Ven'ary rep. But it's fine the way it is now, the game is still fresh, you don't need 20 alts in the first 2 months of the expac.

I don't, and i imagine you don't, but we're imaginative enough to think of more then ourselves, aren't we? Some people started 3 weeks later. They're already pretty behind. You can tell them "it's just one legendary you'll get it" as long as you want, its still pretty demotivating. Some people do make alts, not even many, just one or two. Keeping up with torghast on even two characters is a lot of time. I didn't bother with my alts.

Does this ruin the expac? Nope, but its not helping it either, and i dont think we gain something from keeping it until (hopefully) the first patch.

Precisely. Dealing with alts was completely ok when all you had to do was go to dungeons/raid and get loot. Easy peasy. But now there are these system which require you to grind resources that are pretty much mandatory for gearing, and running alts becomes discouraging. If Blizzard is going to keep up with this kind of system, they could at least make it easier for those that have alts and/or don't have a lot of free time to play.

As someone keeping with with 3 alts and planing to do more, i have no problem with soul ash. One of them was done this week and has 1200 soul ash already. Getting to floor 8 takes a little while, but one you are there it takes 20ish minutes to complete and you get 570 soul ash, + the torgast mission, it makes no sense for a soul ash catch up system. If you want soul ash do the 20 minute dungeon in a group, not really hard.

On the other hand a lot of the other things here would be great, they have renown catch up so why isn't there a torgast story catch up.

A flight master's whistle and loot reroll tokens.  Honestly loot scarcity, with all of the reductions in the amount of loot dropped by group content is the thing most in the way of shadowlands being an enjoyable expansion.

All that, and also Emblems. In older expansions Emblems gave you long-term goals and made every single dungeon and raid run feel rewarding, as you could later exchange those Emblems for Raid-level gear. Because killing Nathria bosses and getting 35 Anima is really sad. Also, they should increase the Anima you get from bosses; 35 Anima is nothing. You get stacks of 35 anima by doing a single World Quest. Bosses should give like, 250 Anima instead.

Another thing I'd like to see is some class balance. Healers don't feel impactful anymore since Legion, specially with tanks nowadays having enough self-sustain that healers don't matter. It also grinds my gears how DPS specs having more healing power than actual Healer specs; yeah sure, the DPS have a much lower mana pool, but doesn't make any sense to me.

Allow you to do the campaign questline without having to go off the path to do side quests or dungeons BEFORE you get the quest to do the dungeon. There should be enough campaign quests to get you to 60 without having to sidetrack. That way you can follow the main storyline. Otherwise get rid of the badge quests.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
