Castle Nathria DPS Log Rankings and Analysis Week 3: Enhancement Exploits

Recommended Posts

This week in Castle Nathria is a little special, as we have a pretty big bug/exploit affecting the rankings, as Enhancement jumped to the top very recently using this technique. Luckily for everyone, it has been fixed already, so we can freely talk about it and will have our own Enh guide writer Wordup explain what's been happening. Windwalkers are also very high in the charts, and while there's no exploits there, there is a small bug/weird interaction happening which is helping them out, so we'll be checking that out as well.

Also, we'll be  swapping over to the "per second" aggregate numbers from now on in the charts, so you'll be seeing the actual DPS numbers as well. Let's start with the actual Mythic rankings, as enh and WW are dominating the field in the 95th percentile, as the top players always know all the tricky little things:

Now let's hang back here a bit, as the enhancement exploit was really only present here.

Enhancement Shaman by Wordup:

Enhancement raced up the logs this week due to a "bug" that was originally reported to Blizzard on the 19th (though due to the holidays wasn't fixed quickly) that allowed you to get Windfury Weapon Windfury Weapon imbues on both weapons. When paired with the Doom Winds Doom Winds legendary this resulted in astronomical amounts of burst that some people made use of - so the high percentile parses are hugely skewing away from the norm because most aren't using it. In terms of raw numbers this was at a *minimum* a flat 20% increase if executed properly, with some fights going even higher, so it wasn't a small difference which the logs clearly show!

This has since been fixed with a fairly amusing trick - if you get it on both weapons then the imbue simply fails to proc, effectively killing your DPS output in the process, so expect them to settle back to their middle of the pack state this week.

Now let's move on to all percentiles, where the majority of players didn't even know about the exploit, and it really shows with Enh being back in the middle of the pack:

Windwalker Monk by Babylonius:

Due to years of issues with Storm, Earth, and Fire Storm, Earth, and Fire, Blizzard has tried to provide fixes that occasionally result in weird interactions. One example of this is an interaction where using SEF to tag targets, while you also tag targets, can lead to having more stacks of Mark of the Crane Mark of the Crane than you have targets. It’s a very simple task to simply tag the same targets that your SEF clones do.

Additionally, targets that are tagged by SEF and who die with the debuff can continue to count toward your total stacks even after they are dead; which can lead to having more stacks than you have targets.

While neither of these are game-breakingly huge increases in damage, and certainly are not the sole reason that Windwalker is strong right now, it provided a small increase in damage and makes it less intensive to maintain stacks of MotC throughout a fight or dungeon.

Unholy DK by Abyssalwave:

Quote

Unholy currently is not only in a great place when it comes to DPS but also utility. Many fights in Castle Nathria become easier thanks to utility abilities such as Death Grip Death Grip, Abomination Limb Abomination Limb, Anti-Magic Zone Anti-Magic Zone, and even Anti-Magic Shell Anti-Magic Shell.

Unholy Death Knights now also provide great execute damage making them even stronger in a progression setting thanks to Soul Reaper Soul Reaper. The talent and mastery rework that Unholy had in the Shadowlands pre-patch was incredibly powerful and has given the spec fantastic synergy between its main abilities such as the reworked Unholy Blight Unholy Blight and Dark Transformation Dark Transformation. The rework for Army of the Damned Army of the Damned also usually gives you 2 Army of the Dead Army of the Deads in a fight while also being able to line up that Army of the Dead with most of your other cooldowns.

The fights that Unholy currently excels the most in are Shriekwing, Huntsman Altimor and Lady Inerva Darkvein in terms of DPS. In terms of utility the spec is strong on nearly every encounter. All of this makes Unholy Death Knight a fantastic class to go if you are going to start raiding in Castle Nathria.

And let's check in with Heroic one more time, since we still only have a 3 guilds that actually killed Denathrius on Mythic, and not a whole lot more with Stone Legion down either.

A fairly turbulent week this time around! As always, if you want even more info on a spec, you can check out our class guides here.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
